Hogwarts: I am the White Demon King
#526 - Chapter 526: Ineffective protective measures
Arriving on the first floor of the shop, Quirrell didn't leave directly through the main entrance. Instead, he stood in the fireplace and chose the same mode of transportation as before—the Floo Network.
Green flames instantly erupted, engulfing his entire body, and in the blink of an eye, he had appeared at the entrance of Diagon Alley.
He tightened his hood, lowered his head like an ordinary pedestrian, and hurried along the winding cobblestone streets towards Gringotts.
Two goblin guards stood on either side of Gringotts' first gate, vigilantly watching the visitors ascending the steps. They were Gringotts' first line of defense, specifically responsible for intercepting intruders who behaved abnormally or were mentally unstable.
Quirrell strode through the entrance, ignoring the gazes of the goblin guards, and headed straight for the second gate.
This gate was even more imposing than the first, with Gringotts' warning engraved on the silver doors: "Thieves will suffer dire consequences."
Quirrell slowly raised his head, looked at the ancient and majestic words, and the corners of his mouth slightly lifted, revealing a subtle smile.
Heh heh, Gringotts, I'm here again!
On either side of the second gate also stood two goblin guards. Unlike the goblins at the first gate, they each held a slender golden rod in their hands.
This was an alchemical magical item personally crafted by the goblins, capable of detecting hidden magical traces and sensing concealed magical objects.
"Wizard, please accept the entrance examination."
The two goblins' eyes were sharp as they slowly moved the golden rods around Quirrell.
After a moment, they exchanged glances, confirmed that Quirrell only had an empty, undetectable Extension Charm bag, and nothing else abnormal. Then, they nodded slightly and allowed Quirrell to enter the hall.
Behind the long counter, ten goblins sat on high stools, responsible for receiving today's guests.
Quirrell walked directly towards an older goblin, took out a golden key, and said in a deep voice.
"I want to enter my vault. This is the vault key. After verifying it, take me to the vault. Also, don't say my name!"
The goblin nodded without expressing any objection.
He had seen many wizards like this recently, most of whom were wanted by the Ministry of Magic or had feuds with Death Eaters.
But it didn't matter. These disputes had nothing to do with the goblins. As long as they confirmed that the person was indeed a Gringotts customer, they could enjoy the services provided by Gringotts.
The older goblin carefully examined the golden key in his hand. After confirming that the golden key was accurate and indeed belonged to the wizard in front of him, he stood up and smiled slightly.
"Respected guest, Bogrod is very pleased to serve you. Please follow me, I will take you to your vault."
Under Bogrod's lead, Quirrell silently followed behind him, passed through one side of the Gringotts hall, and stepped into a deep stone corridor.
The corridor was lined with dim magical lights, casting faint rays of light and lengthening the shadows of the two people.
At the end of the corridor, a small cart stood quietly on the tracks, the body of the cart looking a little old. Bogrod skillfully jumped onto the cart, signaling Quirrell to sit down.
"The vehicle is starting, please sit tight and hold on!"
Accompanied by the goblin's reminder, the cart suddenly shook, and then rushed out like a wild boar, speeding down the complex and winding tracks.
The small cart sometimes plunged down suddenly, and sometimes turned sharply, shuttling through the stalactite-filled underground world, the wheels sparking on the tracks, the whole process like a thrilling underground roller coaster.
Suddenly, a thick layer of water mist rose from the tracks ahead, spreading in the center of the passage, like a dark mist wall.
The small cart didn't slow down at all, and rushed straight in.
Feeling the coolness on his face, a faint mockery flashed across Quirrell's face.
Heh, the water mist of the Thief's Downfall.
In the past, the goblins would only activate the entire Thief's Downfall after suspecting that someone had impersonated someone to break into Gringotts, in order to wash away all hidden magical effects. Even those who had taken Polyjuice Potion would return to their original appearance in this water mist.
But now, the goblins had obviously strengthened their security measures, no longer waiting for suspicion before activating it, but defaulting that all visitors must pass this final check to ensure that any magical disguise had nowhere to hide.
It was indeed some progress to turn the waterfall into water mist, which not only ensured the effectiveness of the inspection, but also did not wet the customer's whole body and cause too much trouble.
Unfortunately, these extra precautions were meaningless to Quirrell.
His disguise was entirely based on Muggle methods and had nothing to do with magic. These magic-specific detection measures were simply ineffective.
After rushing out of the range of the water mist, Bogrod's body completely relaxed after seeing that there was no change in Quirrell's body.
Before this, it had been circling the other party, the purpose of which was to pass this final test.
Now that the test was correct, it could go directly to the target vault.
Bogrod smiled at Quirrell and was just about to shake the joystick to adjust the route when he saw Quirrell point his wand at him.
"Imperio!"
In an instant, Bogrod's expression became respectful.
"Goblin!" Quirrell shouted, "I've changed my mind. Next, take me to Bellatrix Lestrange's vault."
"Yes, sir!" Bogrod didn't hesitate at all, professionally manipulating the small cart to speed downwards.
About ten minutes later, the small cart finally stopped slowly in front of an underground platform.
The surrounding area was filled with humid and cold air, and the magic lights on the stone walls flickered with a faint light, illuminating the four or five vaults in the depths of the platform.
However, to get there, you must first pass through a dangerous barrier—a dragon guarding here.
That was a Ukrainian Ironbelly, which had been imprisoned in this underground world by the goblins for a long time. The years of confinement had already left cruel traces on it. The scales, which should have been smooth and solid, had now become pale and loose, like weathered rock.
Both of its hind legs were wearing heavy shackles, and the thick chains above were connected to huge stakes driven deep into the stone to ensure that the dragon's range of activity was limited to this platform.
Its eyes were cloudy and unclear. After sensing the arrival of people, it turned its head and roared.
Seeing this, Quirrell took out the undetectable Extension Charm bag that Sebastian had just given him without panic, and then twisted a decorative button on the bag counterclockwise three times.
Opening the undetectable Extension Charm bag again, the undetectable Extension Charm bag, which had been empty under the goblin's inspection, was now full of useful tools.
Heh heh, stupid goblins, not knowing to keep up with the times, still using the detection rods passed down from the last century.
Little do they know that Swan Alchemy has already developed a more advanced undetectable Extension Charm bag for your detection tools.
Quirrell smiled and took out the alchemical tool, Dinglebat, that he had prepared, and handed it to Bogrod.
"Let's go, goblin, take me to Bellatrix's vault!"
