Hogwarts: I will not become the Dark Lord
#304 - Moody's Defense Against the Dark Arts 2
"Decades ago, the Imperius Curse caused countless troubles for the Ministry of Magic," Moody said, laboriously using his prosthetic leg to stand up. He slowly walked behind the podium, opened a drawer, and took out a glass jar containing three large black spiders. The spiders were constantly climbing inside the jar, extremely active.
Moody reached into the jar, accurately grabbed a spider, and placed it in the palm of his hand, so that everyone could see it clearly. Then, he raised his wand, pointed it at the spider, and chanted in a low voice: "Imperio!"
The spider seemed to be controlled by an invisible force, suddenly leaping from Moody's palm, hanging in the air by only a thin thread, swaying back and forth, as if on a swing.
"You find this amusing, do you? But if this curse were directed at yourselves, would you still find it so funny?" Moody's voice descended like a chilling frost.
The laughter around him stopped abruptly as if frozen in place, and the entire classroom returned to silence once more.
"It's completely under my control, controlled by me," the spider in Moody's hand was now curled up into a ball, constantly rolling in his palm. "I can easily order it to jump out the window, or drown itself in water, or even, make it jump into the throat of any one of you…"
"Years ago, after the Dark Lord fell, many wizards who had joined the ranks of the Death Eaters claimed that they had been controlled by the Imperius Curse," Moody said, glancing at Malfoy. "This once plunged the Ministry of Magic into unprecedented chaos. They had to painstakingly distinguish who was truly forced and who was willingly evil."
"However, what I want to tell you is that the Imperius Curse is not invincible. I will teach you how to resist it, but remember, it requires an extremely strong personal will as support, and not everyone can easily master it. Therefore, the best strategy is still to try to avoid being hit by it."
At this point, Moody's tone suddenly became extremely serious. He abruptly raised his voice and shouted, "Constant vigilance!" The sudden roar made everyone tremble involuntarily.
Then, Moody grabbed the spider that was still somersaulting and ruthlessly threw it back into the glass jar.
"Can anyone else tell me the other two Unforgivable Curses besides the Imperius Curse?" Moody looked around the classroom. Seeing no one answer, he picked up the roster, his eyes scanning sharply. "Daphne Greengrass, I remember your Greengrass family has always been obsessed with pure-blood, taking pride in pure-blood. You should be familiar with my question, please tell me the answer!" There was a trace of unquestionable authority in Moody's voice.
"The Cruciatus Curse, one of them is the Cruciatus Curse," Daphne Greengrass's voice was very soft, but everyone in the classroom heard it clearly.
"Very good," Moody took a second spider from the large glass jar on the podium and carefully placed it on the podium. The spider seemed to sense the danger that was about to come and remained motionless, particularly terrified.
"To make it clearer for everyone, I need to make it bigger." Moody said, raising his wand and pointing it at the spider, softly chanting: "Engorgio!"
As the spell took effect, the spider's body rapidly swelled, and in the blink of an eye, it was much larger than a normal wolf spider. Seeing this, the Slytherin students around him had their original curiosity and excitement replaced by fear. They retreated one after another, trying to stay away from Moody's podium, fearing that they would be accidentally injured by Moody. They certainly didn't want to be hit by a Cruciatus Curse for no reason.
Moody raised his wand again, pointing it at the huge spider, his voice low and cold: "Crucio!"
In an instant, all of the spider's legs contracted tightly around its body. It rolled around incessantly, its body convulsing violently, swaying left and right, as if it were experiencing unspeakable pain. Although it didn't make any sound, everyone could feel the bone-deep torment and despair. If the spider had vocal organs, they believed that it would be screaming desperately in pain at this moment.
Moody's wand remained steadily pointed at the spider, never moving an inch. The spider's body trembled more and more violently under the effect of the curse, and the convulsions became more frequent. Finally, Moody stopped the Cruciatus Curse. Although the spider's legs gradually relaxed, the convulsions of its body did not stop immediately, and it was obviously still struggling in lingering fear.
"Reducio," Moody whispered, waving his wand gently. The spider quickly returned to its original size, and then he casually threw it back into the glass jar.
"This is the power of the Cruciatus Curse," Moody's voice was low and serious. "It can make people feel extreme pain, far beyond any physical torture. In the past, this curse was very popular and became a weapon in the hands of many dark wizards."
“There's one last curse left,” Moody's gaze swept over the heads of the Slytherin students, finally landing on Jerry's desk. “This student, what is the last Unforgivable Curse?”
“The Killing Curse!” Jerry said coldly, glancing at Moody (Barty Crouch Jr.).
“Correct,” Moody nodded, slowly walking back to the podium. “Avada Kedavra, the most terrifying and powerful curse in the wizarding world. Wizards also call it the Killing Curse. Once struck by it, it means the end of life.”
He slowly reached into the glass jar containing the last spider. The spider seemed to sense something, frantically struggling at the bottom of the jar, desperately trying to escape in circles. Unfortunately, its struggle was in vain. Moody steadily grabbed it and placed it on the podium. As soon as the spider was set down, it scurried about the podium frantically.
The Slytherin students, witnessing this scene, felt a sense of foreboding in their hearts. They exchanged glances, wondering if Moody was really going to use the Killing Curse in front of them?
Sure enough, to the students' shock, Moody raised his wand high.
“Avada Kedavra!”
An extremely dazzling green light suddenly burst forth, instantly forcing everyone to close their eyes. At the same time, a strange humming sound, as if a giant object was traversing space, echoed in the air.
When the green light dissipated and the humming sound faded away, the students opened their eyes again and saw that the spider had flipped over and was lying quietly on the desk. Its body was intact, but it no longer possessed any signs of life. It was dead, killed by the Killing Curse.
The surrounding Slytherin students swallowed deeply upon seeing this.
Moody did not put the dead spider back into the glass jar, but gently waved his hand, sweeping it off the desk and onto the floor, as if demonstrating an irreversible fact.
“Avada Kedavra, a curse that carries no hope. It cannot be reversed, and no one can resist its deadly power. The mortality rate of Avada Kedavra is a one hundred percent termination,” Moody said in a low voice.
“Professor, the mortality rate of Avada Kedavra is not one hundred percent. There is an exception!” At this moment, Jerry raised his hand and interrupted Moody.
Harry Potter: That's right, it's me, who successfully lowered the mortality rate of the Killing Curse!
The surrounding students, with confused expressions, were silent for a moment before they remembered who Jerry was talking about.
“Alright,” Moody nodded, “My statement was indeed negligent.”
“But I want to emphasize that the true Avada Kedavra requires extremely powerful magic to support it. Now, all of you can take out your wands, point them at me, and recite the spell. The true Avada Kedavra has no counter-curse, but you… I suspect that with your strength, you might only make me bleed a little from the nose.”
Slytherin students: ? ? ?
Wait, which Defense Against the Dark Arts professor introduces the three Unforgivable Curses in the first lesson? That's already too much, and now he's actually teaching everyone the Killing Curse. Is this still Hogwarts?
Moody, no wonder you were advised to leave by the Ministry of Magic. You're a bit too extreme!
Moody (Barty Crouch Jr.): Bullshit, it's clearly you pure-bloods who are too conservative!
“Professor Moody, are you sure?” Jerry smiled with ill intent. Jerry was afraid that if he didn't control the power of his Killing Curse properly, Moody (Barty Crouch Jr.) would be instantly reduced to ashes.
“Ahem…” Moody paused slightly, then coughed twice to cover up his embarrassment. “What I mean is, you must deeply understand these three Unforgivable Curses—Avada Kedavra, Imperius Curse, and Cruciatus Curse—and maintain a high degree of vigilance and reverence!”
He quickly changed the subject, his tone becoming serious and urgent. “Remember, no matter which curse it is, once cast on a human being, it will be an unforgivable crime, enough to make you spend the rest of your life with Dementors in Azkaban. So, what you should be doing now is picking up your quills and recording these important pieces of knowledge.”
As Moody's words fell, the atmosphere in the classroom instantly became solemn and focused. The students picked up their quills and parchment one after another, and began to carefully record these three chilling curses. Only the rustling sound of quills scratching across paper could be heard in the classroom, and the air seemed to solidify, so quiet that one could hear their own heartbeat.
Until the bell for the end of class rang abruptly, breaking the silence. After Moody announced the end of class, the students almost couldn't wait to rush out of the classroom, as if to escape the oppressive atmosphere. And once they left the confines of the classroom, their long-suppressed discussions and emotions surged out like a flood, engulfing the entire corridor and staircase.
“Jerry, over here!”
Inside the Great Hall, Harry and the others waved eagerly after seeing Jerry.
“Was Professor Moody's class very interesting?” Harry and the others asked impatiently after Jerry walked over and sat down. They had already heard about Professor Moody's prowess from the Weasley twins.
“Of course,” Jerry nodded with a smile, “Professor Moody is much more interesting than the previous few Defense Against the Dark Arts professors. Today, he even taught us three very practical little curses!”
“Really?” Harry quickly asked, “What curses? Are they powerful?”
“Imperius Curse, Cruciatus Curse, and Avada Kedavra!”
“? ? ?”
“WTF! ?”
