Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity

#103 - McGonagall: Roger, you are becoming more and more like Voldemort

Currently, the elders who have helped Roger the most are two: one is Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, and the other is Professor McGonagall.

Professor McGonagall has been a mentor, teacher, and guide to Roger. However, after Roger chose the path of magic to prove longevity, Professor McGonagall could no longer help Roger much in magical research.

At this time, Dumbledore took over Professor McGonagall's position and continued to walk with Roger on the path forward.

But Dumbledore and McGonagall are completely different existences to Roger.

In Dumbledore's eyes, Roger was initially a reflection similar to many of his old friends, then a genius little wizard, and finally, someone who needed constant attention, who might cause a world-class disaster, or might turn the page of the world's history as a pioneer of civilization.

But in Minerva McGonagall's eyes, Roger is a lonely child estranged from his relatives at funerals, as if there is some kind of barrier in this world. He is a little wizard who would be happy for days after learning a new magic, an ordinary person who can be sad, afraid, and upset.

Roger will always reward those who have helped him.

Just like Harry, who helped Roger establish a cooperative relationship with Hagrid, Roger gave him his neural modification as a reward.

Three-dimensional magic, the second brain, and transfiguration modifications allowed Professor McGonagall's magical strength to enter a period of rapid growth again after many years.

However, as her foundation manifested and she walked higher on the path of magic, Professor McGonagall increasingly felt that Roger's state was not right.

"Roger, you said that the path you are taking is not the same as Voldemort's, but I feel that you are becoming more and more like him now." Professor McGonagall knew how to communicate with Roger to better connect their hearts.

Although Professor McGonagall can't help Roger much in magical research now, Roger still shares his latest progress and ideas about the future path with her as before.

So, Professor McGonagall knew that Roger found Voldemort's "Super-Ego Time Horcrux Technique" novel, but he didn't care for it.

On the one hand, it's the Ship of Theseus' problem of self-continuity, and on the other hand, Roger's ideal path to immortality is based on the "Self," not the instinctive Id, and the ideal Super-Ego.

Returning to Professor McGonagall's question just now, 'Do you remember what you were like before the Gulf War?'

Hidden beneath the surface of the question, Professor McGonagall's real question is: 'The 'You' now, is it your 'Self' after all, or is it your 'Super-Ego' that emerged in the war and is growing stronger and stronger?'

"This—" Roger was speechless for a moment. With his tacit understanding with Professor McGonagall, he naturally understood her deep meaning.

In fact, ordinary wizards don't need to pay attention to this kind of problem. People themselves are complex. As long as the proportion of personality is not ridiculously unbalanced, it is normal.

But Roger is different.

He wants to walk the path of mental immortality, and he has set the tone of "Self" as the mainstay.

Then, if he wants to complete this path, he must answer this question well.

It's okay to deceive outsiders about things in your heart, but you can't deceive yourself.

Professor McGonagall has been watching Roger from the perspective of an outsider, and noticed the crux that Roger ignored because he "didn't know the true face of Mount Lu, only because he was in this mountain."

Seeing Roger's speechless appearance, Professor McGonagall continued: "What you are doing now may not be wrong, but it conflicts with the path to immortality you have chosen. Either change your approach, or change your path, otherwise you may fall into a long period of self-consumption in the future."

The biggest difference between the path to immortality and the path to longevity lies here.

Longevity is the transformation of the life cycle model. If something goes wrong and the cycle is interrupted, it may lead to death, which will trigger Roger's precognitive crisis response ability.

However, the change of self-thought is not a crisis, unless the change reaches the point of wanting to self-destruct, otherwise it will not trigger Roger's ability.

This led to Roger no longer being able to use himself as a mirror, and could only try to use virtual reality as a starting point to reflect himself with all living beings as a mirror.

But if Professor McGonagall hadn't pointed out this problem at this moment, even if Roger used all living beings as a mirror, I'm afraid it would be a long time before he realized this route conflict.

It's difficult for a doctor to heal himself, and it's difficult to save others.

"You are seeking eternal life. This road is very long. You have only just started. All the setbacks, sorrows, and pains you have encountered are just insignificant appetizers." Professor McGonagall showed a kind smile.

"I know that there is always a very strong sense of insecurity in your heart, but the more anxious you are, the more likely you are to deviate from your path."

Although Minerva McGonagall doesn't know all of Roger's details, her judgment is correct.

How could a normal person, even if he time-traveled, take the outer universe Celestial Venerable, Immortal Emperor, Multiverse Creator God, and Higher Dimensional Life as imaginary enemies to plan his growth trajectory when he just stepped into the extraordinary?

The impact on Roger, who was not a prophet from the beginning, of an ordinary person growing up in a peaceful country suddenly and unpreparedly becoming a child and struggling to survive in the Gulf War is almost lifelong.

"You gave Harry a long vacation, let him relax as much as possible, and then started teaching him time magic."

"Then why not give yourself a long vacation? Your will is firm, and the taut bowstring may be able to last for a long time. This time may be longer than the life of an ordinary person, but that is not a reason to keep it taut."

Professor McGonagall smiled and patted Roger on the shoulder: "Moderation can lead to better cultivation. Sometimes taking a detour is actually a shortcut. The truth you said won't only apply to others and not to yourself, right?"

"... Thank you, Professor McGonagall," Roger said with a serious expression.

If it was just simple advice, Roger would be grateful for the other party's concern, but he would not take any action, but Professor McGonagall's words were different.

She did point out a huge loophole in his cultivation, unknowingly saving Roger from a misguided path that would have been difficult to reverse.

This made Roger couldn't help but fall into reflection on his past path.

His thoughts also returned to his past life and the time when he first time-traveled with Professor McGonagall's words.

The Roger at that time was completely different from the current one.

Not to mention strength, just execution and willpower were worlds apart.

His mentality was completely different from the same person.

In the distant past, only a few shadows remained on the current self.

"Perhaps, I really should take a long vacation and sort myself out." Stretching out his hand, Roger looked at his familiar and unfamiliar palm, feeling the terrifying power flowing within it that was enough to break the sound barrier with his physical body, and said from the bottom of his heart.

Under Roger's gaze, a ray of sunlight suddenly penetrated the clouds and appeared in his palm.

"The weather is clear." Professor McGonagall looked up at the sky, and the golden sun climbed out of the clouds, revealing a corner of it, and the raindrops stopped falling.

The students who noticed that the rain had stopped also came out of Hogwarts Castle in twos and threes to get some fresh air.

The courtyard was no longer just Roger and Professor McGonagall alone, they blended into the crowd.

Snap.

With a snap of his fingers, Roger released the magic that enveloped the surroundings and dispelled the raindrops and moisture.

"Yes—the weather is clear."
