Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#113 - Why not start with the strong and then become stronger?
A few days ago, Roger and Harry took a stroll around the Berlin Wall and then toured West Germany.
Along the way, through the illusion of time, the two witnessed Germany's establishment, prosperity, decline, hunger, misery, and madness.
As well as its subsequent fall and resurgence.
Roger gained some insights, while Harry became even more taciturn, as if contemplating something.
Roger was happy to see this.
Magic is the miracle of the mind. Only with yearning and desire, with thought and obsession, can one advance rapidly on the path of magic.
Harry's mind was evolving from simple courage and love for his family towards more complex directions.
After touring parts of West Germany, Roger and Harry headed to East Germany.
To be honest, East Germany was very different from West Germany.
Although the two Germanys were unified, a short two years was clearly not enough to bring about significant changes here—or rather, not enough to bring about changes in a positive direction.
"Are you saying that because of the currency exchange between the two Germanys, the factory lost its competitiveness, and you lost your job as a result?" Roger asked the middle-aged man, his face flushed.
"That's right! It's all a conspiracy by West Germany. They want to destroy our industry. Either die or be privatized! I spit on that!"
Roger had the accompanying tour guide conduct interviews on the street in the name of "social investigation" to get ordinary people's views on the current social changes.
The middle-aged man was getting excited when a young man passing by couldn't help but stop when he heard this.
The young man walked over and said, "Don't talk nonsense. The original intention of the monetary union was good. It's just that East Germany's products were too weak to withstand the impact. How can you blame us?"
"What! The original intention was good? Are you saying that the West German government is stupid? They didn't understand the social situation in East Germany and blindly implemented it just because it looked good? Are there no smart people in the country? You..."
Roger's interview was interrupted halfway through, and the scene turned into a shouting match between the East German middle-aged man and the West German young man. He couldn't get a word in edgewise.
Watching the two sides argue until their foreheads were bulging with veins, Roger recalled the scene he had seen in the illusion of time a few days ago: the people of East and West Germany sitting together, laughing heartily, and working together to smash the concrete wall.
Not just that scene.
Nor just these two arguing people in front of him.
In the past few days of touring Germany, Roger had seen too many conflicts between the two Germanys.
West Germans looked down on East Germans, believing them to be lazy and stupid.
East Germans also harbored hostility towards West Germans, attacking them under the pretext that they had let the Nazi elements go.
It was as if the events in the illusion were just illusions, not real events that had happened in the past.
It's only been two years.
"Let's go." After listening to the two argue for a while—at first, they were citing policies, but soon it turned into meaningless insults aimed at each other's parents and ancestors.
Roger, no longer interested in listening, called Harry and Charlotte to leave.
But soon after Roger turned around, he suddenly noticed that the argument was no longer limited to the two of them. More and more East and West Germans gathered around, some watching the excitement, some joining in the shouting match.
"Really—." Roger stopped again, deciding to observe for a while.
It wasn't that he liked to watch the excitement, but this matter was, after all, caused by his question. It wouldn't matter if they just insulted each other, but he didn't want it to develop into a group fight with bloodshed.
He would intervene if there was a trend in that direction.
Having experienced many things in the information explosion era, Roger was not surprised by the scene in front of him. Charlotte was a local German and didn't take it to heart either.
But it had a different kind of impact on Harry. "Clearly, everyone is of the same bloodline. Clearly, they were so happy to be reunited before. Why now—" Harry couldn't understand everything in front of him.
"Because the interests of the two sides are different," Roger said casually.
The economic development of the two Germanys was not balanced. One was the 12th largest economy in the world, and the other was the 3rd.
After the two Germanys merged, East Germans originally thought that they could also live the good life of the third-largest economy, but they didn't expect it to be worse than before.
In the past, East Germany actually lived a good life, virtually free from worries about food and clothing, but life was very monotonous.
To give an example that modern people can easily understand, West German sausages had dozens of different types to choose from in large supermarkets at moderate prices, while East German sausages only had a few types, but the prices were very low.
West Germany's nights were filled with bright lights and wine, while East Germany's nights were spent eating and sleeping.
In a way that modern people can easily understand, it's like a normal city and a city where necessities are readily available, but there's no internet, no mobile phones or computers, no bars or nightclubs, and no toys for sale.
And since the two Germanys merged, life in East Germany has become slightly richer, but far less so than in West Germany.
But their low-price system was shattered by West Germany. Because of institutional reforms and social unrest, there were also more unemployed people.
Ordinary East Germans realized that they had lost out, which is why the middle-aged man's words were so intense.
In fact, this rift had not been healed by the time Roger traveled through, and right-wing forces similar to the mustache man had re-emerged in 21st-century East Germany.
"I still don't understand," Harry shook his head.
He understood what Roger meant. What he didn't understand was why the same nation and the same country had to internally divide into opposing interest groups.
During this time, he saw a large number of East Germans running to West Germany, using the wealth they earned from East Germany to settle in West Germany.
He also saw a large number of West Germans fleeing to East Germany because they couldn't bear the pressure of life.
Even after the price increase, the price of real estate and materials in East Germany was still much lower than in West Germany. Some people even bought houses in East Germany and commuted to work in West Germany every day.
He also saw ordinary East Germans running to West Germany, and then fleeing back to East Germany because they didn't have the capital to settle down.
The 'strong' are constantly flocking to the land of plenty in search of enjoyment, and the 'weak' are constantly flocking to the barren land in search of survival.
West Germany is using desire as a sickle to reap the wealth and talent of East Germany.
"Clearly, if you want 'opponents,' there are so many outside. Why can't the strong help the weak?
Why can't everyone become strong together and then attack others?"
Roger chuckled when he heard Harry's question: "They are unwilling and dare not."
Unwilling is due to selfishness and greed. As for daring not, Germany had just been dissected once. You want to unite so quickly. What are you planning?
Want to be 'destroyed' again?
"If one day you become a truly strong person, are you willing to help the weak become stronger?" Roger asked.
"This is the right thing to do," Harry said seriously. To muster the courage to do what he believes is right is his current path of the heart.
"I hope you can remember what you said now." Roger grinned, noncommittal.
Roger wants to spread the Three-Dimensional Magic in the future, but his goal is not to turn this place into a world like One Piece, where the strong do whatever they want, and the weak are as miserable as slaves, even struggling to survive.
What he wants is a world where all beings work together to climb the ladder to God, where everyone becomes a helper on his path to eternal life.
It's good that Harry thinks this way.
This trip to Germany has allowed him to see many changes in people's hearts and the fallacies in the design of systems and policies.
In the future, when implementing his plan, Roger will try to use means to prevent wizards and Muggles, large countries and small countries, from becoming like the two Germanys today.
The crowd of shouters didn't gather for too long, and after attracting the attention of the patrol police, they dispersed.
Babenko Mountain, Ministry of Magic."
Originally, Roger wanted to go to the battlefield first, then visit Grindelwald's past, and finally go to the German Ministry of Magic, but since some people are 'anxious,' then I—I'll go see them!
