Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity

#117 - More haste, less speed

"Oh? Are you leaving?" Since she no longer had to be caught in the middle of the Ministry of Magic and Roger, Charlotte's complexion had improved a lot, and her face had regained its fair and rosy color.

This morning, she got up early as usual to prepare for the day's itinerary, but learned some unexpected news.

"Yes, we've been here for almost half a month. We still have many other trips to take next. Probably the day after tomorrow, or the day after that," Roger said to Charlotte, who looked surprised.

It had been almost a week since they witnessed Little Mustache's remains burning in the flames.

During this period, Roger and Harry no longer lingered in big cities and historical sites, but observed the changes of time in the mountains and villages.

Always looking at war and death can be depressing. Sometimes, looking at the pastoral scenery is also a good choice.

The only pity was that even with Roger casting the Time-Turner Charm himself, with his mental power, he couldn't trace too far into the past.

Roger had heard a saying before he traveled through time that, according to the latest archaeological discoveries by molecular biologists, dinosaurs were most likely feathered. The restoration diagrams and documentary CGs he saw when he was a child seemed to be mostly wrong.

Roger wanted to witness with his own eyes what many extinct species of the past looked like, but— Roger could only shake his head and sigh at his own weakness again.

Tracing back hundreds of millions of years is too difficult.

"Then where are you going next?" A trace of reluctance flashed in Charlotte's eyes when she suddenly heard the news.

It wasn't that about half a month of getting along had created feelings between her and the two children. For Charlotte,

this was just a job assigned by the Ministry of Magic.

And it was a difficult job that almost made her a scapegoat.

What really made her reluctant was the journey itself.

When Roger and Harry toured Germany, she accompanied them throughout the whole process.

The East and West Germans cheering together under the Berlin Wall, the establishment of the New German Reich, the sound of 'Sieg Heil' resounding throughout the country, 500,000 marks for a loaf of bread, the frenzied war, the First Reich that was neither holy nor Roman, how the first arrivals on the barren land multiplied and lived…

Somewhat different from the content in the textbooks, she personally witnessed a more authentic history as if she were there.

This kind of experience, which probably few people in the whole world have had, really fascinated her.

Charlotte knew that all good things must come to an end, but she didn't expect everything to come so quickly.

"If there are no accidents, it should be Greece," Roger replied casually.

Greece is one of the sources of Western civilization's development: technology, art, philosophy, and—mysticism.

If you want to trace the affairs of ancient wizards, Greece, Egypt, and the East are all places you must go, but due to time and scheduling constraints, we should only be able to go to Greece this year.

"I have read many books written by ancient wizards, but I still want to know in what kind of environment they had such ideas."

Roger and Charlotte chatted for a while. According to yesterday's schedule, today should be the day to see Grindelwald, but Harry was late to come out.

Roger waited a little longer. Just as Roger was about to knock on his door, Harry came out of his room.

For the past half month or so, they had been staying in a hotel suite with three rooms, one for each person, for convenience.

Harry's expression was not good. Roger could tell at a glance what he had just experienced.

"You don't need to be too anxious. Magic is something that is more prone to mistakes the more anxious you are— the feeling of meeting your past self is wonderful, isn't it?" Roger asked with a smile.

"Wonderful? It's terrible," Harry sighed.

Now he understood why the Department of Mysteries' Time Chamber would list meeting one's past self as a taboo.

Having experienced the stimulation of the battlefield, Harry felt death drawing closer to him. At this time, Roger gave him an idea to enhance his ability to survive.

Unlike in the past, when Roger directly fed 'food' into his mouth, developing a magic that connects the past and the future, involving changes in time and space, from scratch was too difficult.

Even just a beginning caused him a major setback.

If he hid his true self in the past, what would happen to his past self?

Harry had thought about doing the same thing as Roger, discussing it with his past self and brainstorming.

But the result…

"Absolute trust in oneself—sigh." Harry couldn't help but sigh again. This seemingly ordinary thing, when he actually tried to do it, he realized how difficult it was.

Roger patted Harry on the shoulder: "So, you're too impatient. How many years did Voldemort study magic, and he only perfected his own Horcruxes with the help of predecessors."

"You always think about getting results quickly, but it's better to let nature take its course."

It's like the old abbot once said that it takes 10 years to attain enlightenment, and the little monk asked what if he worked twice as hard? The old abbot replied that it would then take 20 years to attain enlightenment.

Magic is a miracle of the mind. The more anxious you are about things related to the mind, the more likely you are to be counterproductive.

Faced with comfort, Harry just looked at Roger with narrowed eyes and remained silent.

Perhaps this sentence would be appropriate if someone else said it, but Harry felt it was strange coming from Roger.

Roger saw his thoughts from Harry's expression and chuckled: "Haste and speed are two different things."

'It's like one person is wielding a pickaxe, and another person is operating an excavator. A person can dig 30 meters of soil a day, and a machine can dig 300 meters a day. You can't say that the person operating the machine is being hasty just because they dig 300 meters.'"

Roger's progress was very fast. In the eyes of others, Roger was always very impatient, but Roger basically didn't do things outside of his ability, unless it was really necessary.

Roger had a scale in his heart. Under the gaze of 'Crisis Perception,' everything was within his control.

Except for the Path to Immortality that was about to begin after the initial completion of the Space-Time Plague… but that was necessary to climb the ladder of eternal life. There was no way around it.

Unlike watching historical events from various periods in Germany, the process wasn't very smooth when the two of them observed Grindelwald.

Although Germany belonged to Grindelwald's sphere of influence at the time, his power center was actually next door to Germany, in Little Mustache's hometown of Austria.

Grindelwald basically came here to do business, and he would disappear with an Apparition at every turn.

The Time-Turner Charm is used to trace back in a fixed area, which caused them to just observe Grindelwald before he disappeared, leaving no trace of where he went.

"Go to Austria?"

"Forget it," Roger waved his hand.

Roger was still a little interested in getting to the bottom of things that had disappeared into the long river of history.

But Grindelwald?

Roger didn't force it.

Wasn't he still alive? If there was anything he was curious about, he could just ask him in person when the time came.
