Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity

#173 - We cannot see the future, precisely because we can see the future

Grindelwald subtly manipulated things from the sidelines, making arrangements so that a seemingly win-win situation would be achieved instantly if Roger nodded. However, Roger had different ideas about this.

Roger could see Voldemort's future, but this wasn't due to an expansion of Roger's precognitive abilities.

Rather, it was because Voldemort's future genuinely posed a threat to Roger.

He himself was a massive unstable element, and he also possessed a fragment of the power of time.

In the future Roger foresaw, Voldemort eventually did something terrible that ultimately led to the chaos of spacetime itself.

Although this was only a possibility and not necessarily a certainty, Roger had many ways to intervene and prevent this possibility from occurring.

But this already revealed some of Voldemort's danger.

Allowing Voldemort to delve too deeply into the path of time went against Roger's intentions.

Unlike Grindelwald, Voldemort was the kind of person who, if his ideals couldn't be achieved, wouldn't mind dragging more people down to hell with him.

Roger was indeed a seer, but he wouldn't blindly assume that having the ability to foresee the future meant he couldn't fail.

He had never forgotten the seven bullets embedded in his body in the Middle East.

Some of his seemingly crazy actions were simply because there were some things that he had to do, even if the risks were very high.

When thinking about the arrangement regarding Voldemort, he suddenly realized that his thoughts had deviated from the past in some way.

When dealing with political struggles in the Ministry of Magic, it was only an emotional issue, but at this moment, Roger realized that even his thoughts were experiencing problems.

This was even with Roger possessing the Time Plague technology, which allowed him to interact with his past self, thereby anchoring his ego.

If he didn't have the Time Plague technology to achieve an Alaya spanning the past and present, Roger would have found it difficult to detect this deviation.

"I told you a long time ago that your plan to subject your spirit to billions of years of time was too radical."

Nicolas Flamel said unhappily.

As one of the most famous immortals in the world today, Nicolas Flamel understood Roger's pursuit of immortality.

But just as Roger scorned the path Voldemort had chosen, Nicolas Flamel didn't completely agree with the path Roger had chosen.

Or rather, he had no objections to Roger's theory, but he had objections to everything about his practical application!

It was like a person from modern society traveling to ancient times, wanting to complete thousands of years of human civilization in a few decades, completing the three industrial revolutions and entering the information age.

The route was correct, but that's not how you do it!

He had said some nice things to comfort Dumbledore, but that didn't mean he had no objections.

"If it was just the passage of time, it would be fine, but you also want to fully experience the lives of billions of living beings in the first person."

"Men and women, old and young, birds and beasts… Honestly, it's already beyond my expectations that you're only starting to have problems now."

Nicolas Flamel had expected Roger to have a greater reaction sooner.

"—The power of the Time Plague alone cannot carry my goal. I have to find a way to solve this problem," Roger said after a moment of silence.

Roger felt that if things continued like this, he would eventually have a mental breakdown.

"You still want to continue?" Nicolas Flamel was taken aback.

He didn't expect Roger to be so stubborn, still not giving up on this path even after experiencing adverse reactions on a mental level.

Roger sighed softly: "There is no road ahead."

All the problems he was currently facing could actually be condensed into these few short words.

It wasn't that Roger had to persevere, nor was it that Roger didn't want to enjoy life like a normal child, indulging in the intoxication of youthful adolescence.

But he didn't know which direction he should go.

Clearly, he was a seer who could see the future, yet he still felt lost about his own path.

Every time he wanted to stop, he felt death chasing him.

In this world, there were no other pillars of support to help Roger shield him from the wind and rain.

When he wanted to move forward, he could only struggle through a thicket of thorns.

Did Roger know about the problems in his plan?

He knew too well.

But...

If he didn't choose this path, what other way could he achieve immortality?

Looking at Roger's appearance, Nicolas Flamel pondered for a moment and then said: "Obsession with immortality is your advantage. This firm will has allowed you to obtain almost miraculous, superhuman magical power."

"But it is also your greatest flaw."

"Too much obsession with immortality can sometimes make it difficult for you to see everything outside of immortality."

"I think you should understand what I mean."

As an immortal who had lived for more than six hundred years, Nicolas Flamel had seen too much.

Knowledge is knowledge, experience is experience, and intelligence and wisdom cannot be confused.

Since implementing the Reincarnation Plan, the perceived time Roger had experienced was much longer than Nicolas Flamel's.

But Roger had only experienced the lives of others.

People who are stubborn can often go far on the path of magic, but their lives are often a mess.

Dumbledore, Grindelwald, Voldemort—these modern wizards at the pinnacle of the world are all like this.

They are great, they are powerful, but they never feel happy.

Meeting Nicolas Flamel's gaze, Roger could see what he wanted to express.

"I know, but in this world, only immortality is worth pursuing for me."

Roger's gaze remained firm, but Nicolas Flamel shook his head: "Is there a possibility that your path to immortality went wrong from the very beginning?"

"And not from the Reincarnation Plan."

"What do you mean?" Roger was somewhat confused.

"You said you wanted to achieve mental immortality, so let me ask you."

"What do you think true mental immortality should be like? Or, more accurately, what kind of state do you want to 'cultivate' your mind into?"

After chatting with Dumbledore, Nicolas Flamel wanted to learn more about Roger's past, and in the process, he discovered some of Roger's problems.
