Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#178 - The Matrix world line?
"Sorry, Luna."
"I kept you waiting."
Roger had originally agreed with Luna that they would find time on the weekend of the first week of school to study the Nargles together.
However, some unexpected events forced Roger to make a major adjustment to his entire plan.
All sorts of things combined kept him extremely busy.
So, the matter of the Nargles had to be postponed for a week.
"It's okay." Luna didn't really mind; it was just a week.
It wasn't anything urgent.
"How have you been lately? Are you settling in at Ravenclaw?"
Magical research required a secluded place. Walking along the path, Roger chatted with Luna.
"It's fine. Hogwarts is quite interesting." This was Luna's honest opinion.
In the past, Luna had always lived under her father's protection and rarely had the chance to interact with a large number of peers.
This was a new experience for her.
And after the last school year, when Roger used his iron fist to rectify the school's atmosphere, the entire atmosphere of Hogwarts changed.
The Ravenclaw students, who in the original timeline ostracized Luna for being weird, hiding her belongings, and subjecting her to cold violence and bullying, didn't do any of that.
Although Luna's personality still made it difficult for her to fit in and make friends in Ravenclaw,
no one dared to do anything too extreme.
At most, they just ignored her.
"What about you, Roger?" Luna's eyes became strange when she asked.
Roger was constantly surrounded by a dense swarm of Nargles.
Once someone entered the range of these Nargles, their mind would be, to some extent, affected by Roger's distracting thoughts.
In the past, what Luna felt within them were things like 'strengthen your will' and 'pursue the truth'.
But now, there was a slight difference.
So, although she didn't know what had happened, Luna understood that Roger must have encountered something extraordinary.
"...It's been a bit rough," Roger didn't hide it.
"But it's only temporary; things will get better in the future."
Being kicked back as soon as he stepped into the Path of the Ageless was certainly not a pleasant experience.
But Roger believed that he would soon be able to enter it again.
Of course, although Roger didn't hide it, he didn't explain the details to Luna.
Roger didn't want to burden a child with his troubles; there was no need to share unhappy things.
"What do you think of this place?"
Hogwarts wasn't small, but it wasn't too big either. Soon, the two arrived at their destination.
Which was the location of the Forbidden Forest where Hagrid resided.
Unlike ordinary magical experiments,
based on Luna's description of her condition, Roger felt that it was best to find a very spacious place.
And it would be better if there were other intelligent creatures around as a reference.
Luna looked around and felt that this place was indeed suitable: "It's good."
After receiving the reply, Roger led Luna further ahead.
Now that the environment of the Forbidden Forest was fine, he had to tell Hagrid.
After all, Hagrid was the keeper of the Forbidden Forest, and he certainly had to say hello before conducting experiments in the Forbidden Forest.
"Hagrid?" Walking to the hut near the Forbidden Forest, Roger knocked on the door.
But there was no response.
Playing? Reading?
Virtual reality had time acceleration. The time it took to read a book in reality was enough to read three books in virtual reality.
The same was true for playing. There were far more things to play in virtual reality than in reality. With accelerated thinking, everyone had more entertainment time.
After Roger overcame the technical hurdle of long-distance online connection, even many young wizards could connect remotely if they wanted to play together.
To be honest, this had a significant positive effect on resolving the conflicts between the four houses.
In the past, if two students from Gryffindor and Slytherin were friends before entering school, they would inevitably be affected by the atmosphere of conflict between the houses after entering school. Their communication would become less and less, and they would gradually drift apart.
Like Lily and Snape, Snape certainly did many things wrong, which was undeniable.
But as a friend, Lily knew very little about what Snape experienced later because of the differences between the houses, and she didn't have many opportunities to communicate deeply with Snape, which led to many misunderstandings and estrangement, which was also a fact.
But with virtual reality, such things would be reduced a lot.
Students had a private space to bypass the gazes of others.
Of course, this also led to a series of new problems.
For example, secret groups began to prevail among students.
Everything inside Hogwarts was just a microcosm of the larger society.
Roger could foresee that when virtual reality was fully rolled out in the world, all kinds of problems that occurred within Hogwarts would also be staged in the wizarding and Muggle societies.
Situations like Hagrid being too immersed in the almost omnipotent and wish-fulfilling beauty of the virtual reality world, to the point of sometimes neglecting real-world matters, would certainly occur from time to time.
Even a simple 2D online game could make some people addicted.
What's more, it was more realistic, and might even evolve into a 'real' world in the future.
…While increasing the volume of his knocks, Roger thought to himself that it was time to find a way to solve this problem.
Roger developed virtual reality.
But it wasn't to turn this world into something like "The Matrix", where everyone in the world entered a virtual illusion.
"Doing an experiment?"
"Of course!" Amidst Roger's heavy knocking, Hagrid came back to his senses from virtual reality.
He certainly had no objections to this small matter.
But Roger abandoned his original plan to go directly to the experiment.
Instead, he steered the topic towards Hagrid's addiction to virtual reality.
"Hagrid, I've been wanting to create some anti-addiction mechanisms recently. Do you have any suggestions?"
"Now, within Hogwarts, more and more people are putting too much energy into this…"
Before Roger could finish speaking, Hagrid said, "Roger, perhaps you're a little too worried."
"Perhaps there's nothing wrong with it."
"Virtual reality is also reality."
"Everyone is just putting their communication in the real world into the virtual world, it's not like they're wasting time."
"I don't think there's a need for any anti-addiction measures. Just a 'reminder' function to avoid neglecting the dangers of the real world when the mind enters the virtual world would be enough."
