Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#190 - The Magic of Thought
The afternoon sun was warm.
In the lush forest, Luna looked up at the Bowtruckles perched in the trees, her straight wand tucked behind her ear.
Soft light filtered through the gaps in the leaves, scattering patches of light on her, as if dressing her in a robe of light.
She was engrossed in her observation until Roger approached.
The dense swarm of Nargles severely interfered with her vision, and she turned her head: "Roger, you're back?"
"Yes, I checked on Grindelwald, and he doesn't have a similar phenomenon on him."
The scenery before him was picturesque, and the person was beautiful, but Roger's focus was still on magic.
As always, in front of a Transfiguration master of Roger's caliber, all outward appearances are illusions.
He would only concentrate his attention on things that were truly worth noticing.
"I see," Luna nodded, not at all surprised.
Roger was the most unique being she had ever met, and she didn't think that some of Roger's qualities would be easily found in another person.
Even if that person was Grindelwald, the legendary dark wizard who almost started a full-scale war between wizards and Muggles.
"So, having lost the reference sample, how do you plan to experiment with that thing on yourself next?"
The two had already been experimenting for a morning.
Through the morning's experiments, Luna had a general understanding of Roger's boundaries.
Mind magic, Roger had made an entry, but obviously not a deep one.
Or rather, the entire wizarding civilization hadn't delved too deeply into mind magic.
Confusion Charm, Memory Charm, Legilimency, Occlumency - seemingly diverse methods, but in reality, just some shallow applications related to the mind.
Confusion, deletion, extraction, defense, that's all.
If the wizarding civilization really had profound magic related to the mind, given the close relationship between the mind and magic, they would probably have reached a higher level of magical achievement.
And the fact that no one had broken through until Roger developed Three-Dimensional Magic already illustrated the problem.
Although Roger's magic had Crisis Anticipation to help him improve quickly, he still had to follow the basic rules.
Without any predecessors to guide him, Roger's desire to create something from nothing would be like his path to immortality, one obstacle at a time.
Like his path to immortality.
But there were also some things that didn't need to be rushed; with his current lifespan, he would eventually find the answer one day.
"Nargles are essentially creatures closely related to 'mental power'."
"Although we don't know their full picture, this should be pretty close."
"Once we understand this, the next step has a direction, whether it's why Nargles gather around me or why they disintegrate and dissipate when they get too close to me."
"Both must have something to do with the mind."
Saying this, Roger paused, then continued: "So, my focus will be on two directions next."
"One is to start from the outside. I will look for people who have similar characteristics to me in various aspects: personality, pursuit, experience, or other aspects. I will observe whether they have the same or similar phenomena as me."
"The other is to start from the inside. I will continue to study mind magic in depth, based on Imaginative Creation."
The study of mind magic was not only for investigating Nargles.
But the mind itself was very mysterious and possessed powerful power. Not to mention its close relationship with magic, even Roger's path to immortality might require more involvement from mind magic to be complete.
In this process, Nargles were more like a directional beacon than the ultimate goal, showing whether Roger's mind magic was on the right path.
It was like a weakened version of Crisis Anticipation.
If Roger couldn't make progress on the Nargle problem no matter how he researched, it meant that there might be some problems with Roger's mind magic research direction.
This wasn't necessarily absolutely accurate, but when you can't find the way forward, every guiding light is precious.
Anyway, it's better to have something than nothing, isn't it?
Roger had suffered a lot when he embarked on the path to immortality, which made him cherish those hard-won reference points.
Besides Nargles, Roger also planned to borrow the library from Nicolas Flamel.
Hogwarts' magical collection was one of the best in the entire wizarding world.
But it was still a school after all, and some information couldn't be displayed here.
Some special books, even in the Restricted Section, seemed a bit inappropriate.
Just like some of the books Roger got from Professor McGonagall before entering school, some of them weren't in the Hogwarts library.
"- Mainly because some books involved some very controversial magical theories, which were not suitable for ordinary young wizards to watch, and some books involved certain "national department secrets".
McGonagall was able to lend them to Roger back then, and his Seer status played a big role.
Roger now urgently wanted more wisdom from his predecessors.
So naturally, he wanted to see the private collection of Nicolas Flamel, the old wizard who had lived for more than six hundred years.
This legendary alchemist must have some precious rare editions.
Sometimes, what Roger needed was not specific magic, but thoughts and ideas, which were what Roger cared about most.
By the way, speaking of national department secrets.
Roger remembered something.
The Department of Mysteries must also have a batch of very precious materials.
However, the Department of Mysteries was highly autonomous.
Many times, they were somewhat "obedient but not compliant."
Even if Fudge was the Minister of Magic, it was difficult to completely command the Department of Mysteries.
Just like a certain man who no one knew better than him, even if he became the Blue Star No.1, it was difficult to see the account books of certain departments.
Getting the information from the Department of Mysteries wasn't something that could be accomplished just by asking.
Of course, like Voldemort and Grindelwald, direct robbery was the fastest way.
Voldemort and Grindelwald only robbed the Hall of Time back then, and the other departments of the Department of Mysteries were not looted.
Voldemort and Grindelwald were not in good condition at the time, and they obviously couldn't complete all the looting, otherwise Roger would just go to Voldemort to get it.
Like Voldemort, use dirty tricks?
Of course, Roger wouldn't do that.
His other methods would naturally not be so rough.
