Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity

#31 - Roger's Alchemical Path

Clear reading voices and various snores, both loud and soft, intermingled, creating what sounded like a musical movement.

Normally, students shouldn't be sleeping in class.

But this class was an exception.

This was a required class that shouldn't have been a waste of time... History of Wizarding Magic.

Wizarding history is a subject well worth studying, but the one responsible for teaching this class at Hogwarts was a ghost.

Ghosts in the wizarding world are not as simple as souls after death; they are more like echoes of the dead lingering in the world. Although they possess a certain level of intelligence, they have no future to speak of.

They can only think about the things they did in life, and if their obsessions are too weak, it will further affect the ghost's intelligence.

Professor Cuthbert Binns, who was thinking about going to class in his last moment before death, belonged to this category.

As a ghost, he saw the living as if they were inanimate objects, making it difficult to communicate with him most of the time. His lectures were basically just reading from the textbook, which was incredibly boring.

So, this class also became a 'nap time' for the vast majority of students.

There were only three exceptions.

One was Roger. He would usually compare wizarding history with Muggle history, just like he did on the train when he first entered school, along with his memories from his previous life, trying to discover some 'modified' details as a form of relaxation and enjoyment.

Another was Hermione. Because of Roger's presence, she felt academic pressure, so she held a book and previewed the course content.

The last one was Harry. The current Harry didn't have the habit of night wandering, but his curiosity about Hogwarts Castle hadn't diminished, so he wrote assignments for other classes during History of Magic, giving him more time to explore the magical castle and do other things.

Today was the same as usual, with only the three of them awake in the classroom. However, there was a slight change in Roger. He didn't take out two history books to relax as he used to, but was thinking about other things.

Nearly a month had passed since Professor McGonagall gave Roger his first private lesson in Alchemy.

In this month, Roger had gained a superficial understanding of alchemy.

Then, Roger discovered that alchemy was a path with great potential, but this path... didn't seem suitable for him?

Although alchemy in this world is very complicated to learn, involving a large amount of knowledge on how to transform one substance into another, how to combine different magical materials to give substances magical properties...

The overall introduction is not complicated, consisting of only three factions.

One is spell solidification, which involves preserving a certain magical power. When needed, triggering the relevant conditions will trigger the magical effect.

Dumbledore's Deluminator, the Weasley family's magical car, and backpacks with Undetectable Extension Charms solidified all belong to this category.

The second type involves using various magical materials imbued with mystique by the collective consciousness to combine with each other, guided by wizarding magic, to create special reactions, ultimately producing the objects needed by wizards.

The difference between this category and the previous one is that the wizard's involvement is reduced. For example, to create an alchemical item with spatial properties, the wizard no longer needs to understand spatial magic, but only needs to understand the recipe for refining the alchemical object and possess a certain degree of magic power.

The last type is what Roger had seen in 'Ritual Magic Is Far More Than Blood Sacrifice,' the path taken by the External Object faction in pursuit of breaking through the upper limit of wizarding power, using the power of legends to create alchemical items.

All three alchemical schools have good potential. One can solidify and store one's own magical power and pass it on to others to use.

One can obtain various magical powers that one does not yet possess, and the last one even has the possibility of transcending limitations.

But the problem is... they don't match Roger's characteristics.

The reason why Roger's magical abilities have progressed so rapidly, allowing him to create some remarkable spells at the age of 11 in his first year at Hogwarts, is not only due to his own talent, but more importantly, Roger's ability to sense danger, which acts like a guiding light in magical experiments that are highly relevant to his own safety.

In body modification experiments, even the slightest mistake could lead to sudden death, so as long as there is a possibility of error, Roger's danger sense will issue a warning, allowing him to identify the direction.

Alchemy, on the other hand, is purely external. Although there are risks involved in making it, most alchemical research doesn't involve dangerous situations if mistakes occur. Roger's danger sense cannot provide him with relevant prompts in this process.

After all, wizarding alchemy is not goblin engineering, where things explode at every turn.

Therefore, the speed at which Roger learns alchemy, compared to the speed at which he develops his human body transformation techniques... to put it bluntly, it's like a free-to-play player comparing their leveling speed to a whale who has spent ten million.

Roger was sure that if he focused on alchemy, slowly researching alchemical recipes, he wouldn't even have a chance at longevity in this lifetime, let alone immortality.

But after Roger's rough research, he discovered that alchemy does indeed have the function of enhancing one's own 'talent,' as Professor McGonagall said.

External alchemical information processing and storage devices really have the possibility of being realized.

I can't pick it up, but I'm reluctant to put it down...

Could it be that I have to do what Hagrid does and outsource the road?

But the problem is, even if Roger wanted to find someone, he couldn't find an alchemist within Hogwarts who could make this level of alchemical item for him.

Until the end of class, Roger couldn't figure out what to do... Could it be that after the end of the semester, he should take advantage of the opportunity Dumbledore gave him and ask Nicolas Flamel?

The end of the semester is next June, and it's October now, still eight months away!

Am I going to watch this road right in front of me, but be unable to walk it for eight months?

A rare look of annoyance appeared on Roger's face.

"What's wrong? You look troubled. That's not like you," a pleasant voice sounded in his ear. Turning around, it was Hermione.

Harry called out to the sleeping classmates one by one after class, and Hermione noticed Roger's expression while packing her books, so she walked over.

Last month, Roger helped her resolve the conflict with Ron. After that incident, Hermione looked at herself through Ron's memories and realized that some of her previous behaviors had been too extreme.

She learned from her mistakes and reflected on her actions. Now, she was no longer so aggressive, and her style of doing things was slightly softer. She also had her own friends.

Although most of them were superficial friendships, at least she had made a breakthrough from zero to one. Now, she was no longer as anxious as she used to be, and the rhythm of her life was steadily improving.

And Hermione would naturally not forget that it was Roger who changed everything for her.

She remembered this kindness.

So, when Roger seemed to be troubled, she came over.

... Actually, Ron, who had just woken up, also noticed Roger's appearance, but he didn't dare to go over when he saw Hermione approaching.

Ron had always felt guilty about hurting someone who sincerely wanted to help him, and he didn't dare to look at Hermione often.

Roger was a straightforward person and didn't hide anything, directly telling her what he planned to do.

"Thinking speed, multi-threaded thinking, that is, alchemical items that can improve one's wisdom," Hermione pondered for a moment, and then her eyes suddenly widened.

"Good heavens! You want to create another Ravenclaw's Diadem?!" Hermione, who was knowledgeable and practically a know-it-all, instantly thought of a legendary object that was highly similar to what Roger described.

"It's only similar in function, but the working principle should be different," Roger shook his head. What he planned to make was just an external alchemical computer that could connect to the brain and understand his thoughts.

It just needs to be able to store information and assist in calculations.

As for the existing Ravenclaw's Diadem, Roger wasn't interested in that. Although he didn't know the details of what happened after 'Order of the Phoenix,' he still knew that the 'relic' of the founder of Hogwarts had been made into a Horcrux by Voldemort.

The diary, Slytherin's locket, Ravenclaw's diadem, Hufflepuff's cup, Harry Potter, Roger knew of a total of five Horcruxes, and the diadem happened to be one of them. Roger had no interest in dealing with Voldemort's remnant soul in the diadem.

He wasn't strong enough now, going there would just be sending food.

Then, Roger told Hermione some things about alchemy. Without involving his true core secrets, Roger was also a person who was happy to share knowledge.

But obviously, this kind of knowledge from a high-difficulty course that only outstanding sixth-year students at Hogwarts were qualified to take was a bit too advanced for Hermione, who was only in her first year.

Soon, she became dizzy from listening and could only respond with 'uh-huh' and 'ah-ha'.

However, although Hermione couldn't understand the technical details of alchemy that Roger was talking about, she could still understand what Roger was worried about.

However, she really couldn't help with this.

In the end, Hermione could only say in a tone of admiration, "... It would be great if your Transfiguration could transform into alchemical items."

Everyone who paid attention to Roger knew that Roger's Transfiguration grades were excellent and that he was deeply valued by the Transfiguration professor, McGonagall.

"Yeah," Roger nodded subconsciously.

"If it was like my Transfiguration..." Roger suddenly stopped talking halfway through.

After a few seconds of silence, suddenly.

Bang!

With a crisp sound, Roger suddenly stood up, knocking the chair behind him to the ground.

"That's right!"

"My Transfiguration!"

Recently, his thinking had been trapped in the field of alchemy, in the framework limited by those books, almost forgetting his own housekeeping skills.

Sometimes, cognitive biases are like this, obscuring one's vision.

Roger, who was awakened from his dream by Hermione's words, knew how he should go in the future!

"Transformation, human transformation modification… Alchemy, human alchemy…"

"That's right."

"Human Alchemy! This is my path of alchemy!"

Roger understood!
