Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity
#95 - What does it mean to be the uncrowned king of the British wizarding world?
Although there was doubt in his heart, Dumbledore didn't ask this time. Since it was something Roger didn't want to say directly, forcing him wouldn't yield any results.
It was just that, imperceptibly, Dumbledore felt a sense of urgency.
The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear of the unknown. Faced with the unknown, even a powerful wizard like Dumbledore was extremely cautious.
The conversation between the two was very short, lasting less than a minute in total, but even this half-minute or so of lingering was enough for people to notice them.
The originally bustling and noisy atrium of the Ministry of Magic was slowly becoming quiet, and more and more people stopped their hurried footsteps.
Dumbledore's status need not be said; almost all of the new generation of British wizards had been his students.
Roger's affairs from last year were published in the newspapers for a long time, and later he and the Savior became new topics for everyone.
The Law Amendment incident that was causing a great stir in the Ministry of Magic was also triggered by Professor Roger teaching Harry time magic.
Now, with these two coming to the Ministry of Magic together, some people with rich imaginations had already begun to associate it with recent events.
Could it be—
Although they had suspicions in their hearts, they dared not say anything, nor dared to ask anything.
Unlike the innocent little wizards, they, who had already come of age, had long learned to respect power and fear power.
They just watched, looking down slightly.
Seeing Roger noticing what they were thinking from the expressions of the people around him, and looking at Dumbledore frowning slightly due to everyone's silent attention, the corners of Roger's mouth curled up in an arc.
Being misunderstood was not a good experience, but now watching Dumbledore in a situation of "evil people have their own punishers," he still found it quite interesting.
"Being misunderstood is the fate of the expresser."
Apart from silent observation, there were no other actions from the crowd in the atrium. After Dumbledore and Roger left by elevator, everything returned to normal. Although some people couldn't help but discuss it for a few sentences, nothing more happened.
Most people were still very busy. Who would come to the Ministry of Magic if they had nothing to do? Getting things done was important; gossip could wait until they were free.
The events that followed were uneventful.
Roger and Dumbledore took the elevator all the way to the office of Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic.
Originally, Cornelius Fudge was outwardly obedient to Dumbledore, but secretly he had been trying to build up his own power within the Ministry of Magic, intending to get rid of Dumbledore's "influence" and become a truly powerful Minister of Magic.
But now, everything was different.
Dumbledore's wand-based reasoning trip to the Middle East, the Terror of Magic incident, the Seer and Savior studying at Hogwarts, Grindelwald's escape from prison, and now the Law Amendment incident, in which Dumbledore's shadow was faintly present—under the weight of all these events, Cornelius Fudge had fully realized just how terrifying Dumbledore's 'energy' was!
He already knew who the undisputed uncrowned king of the British wizarding world was.
Now he planned to lie low more deeply, not daring to expose his ambition in the slightest.
As for the matter that Dumbledore personally came to him to handle, he naturally nodded repeatedly. Without Roger even needing to run around, Fudge gave an order, and everything was taken care of.
Actually, the Ministry of Magic is not Fudge's sole domain now. Some operations that are not very compliant with the rules,
he cannot decide casually.
But the head of the High-Risk Alchemy Items Department, who was called in, immediately understood what to do when he saw the big shots in the room.
It's similar to the nature of 'this matter is not allowed in principle'.
In principle, it is not allowed, but some people are the principle themselves.
Special affairs are handled specially.
"Sigh—." Only after respectfully seeing off the two visitors did Cornelius Fudge let out a long breath and slump back in his chair.
The Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement was originally a popular candidate for Minister of Magic, but his son Barty Jr. was identified as a Death Eater, which cost him the opportunity. Another popular candidate, Dumbledore, as in previous times, declined the invitation to serve as Minister of Magic.
This allowed Fudge to 'pick up' this position.
He originally thought this would be a good job that fell from the sky. After all, since Voldemort was 'defeated by the Savior', the British wizarding world had been peaceful.
Take office, make money, and if there is an opportunity, grab some power—this was the path of a 'lying flat' minister that Fudge had planned for himself.
But after really sitting in the position of Minister of Magic, he found that it was not the case at all!
Last year was the Wizengamot trial that almost caused an international conflict with the Middle East, and this year, at the beginning of the year, Grindelwald escaped from prison,
and raided the Department of Mysteries.
This was a heavy blow to the face of the Ministry of Magic.
If Dumbledore hadn't been on his side, he would have had a very difficult time recently.
There was also the Law Amendment. The people promoting this matter had good intentions, but Fudge dared to guarantee that this kind of thing,
would eventually turn into political struggle, mutual team formation, and expansion of power.
The simplest example is abortion in the United States across the ocean. Both sides feel that they are justified, have reasons, and cannot convince the other, so wouldn't that eventually evolve into a pure political struggle?
Reform is not that easy.
Fudge felt that those powerful wizards were good at playing with magic, but as for politics——hehe.
If the 'reason of the wand' wasn't too hard, he would have been overthrown eight times already.
"Minister, this thing, it's really dangerous."
Although she was over thirty years old, she was dressed in a girlish pink outfit. Dolores Umbridge looked very serious as she held the prototype of the virtual reality first-generation machine that Roger had left at the Ministry of Magic in her hands.
Although she often acted like a clown, she was also an excellent graduate of Hogwarts. She joined the Ministry of Magic at the age of 17 and was extremely good at understanding people's hearts. As a half-blood witch, she had a meteoric rise in the Ministry of Magic.
Perhaps she was hateful in the eyes of some people, but she never lacked vision.
"Just let it be used so easily—"
"I know, I'm not blind." Before she could finish speaking, Fudge, who was lying on the chair, casually interrupted without even raising his head.
Every time he finished handling Dumbledore's affairs, he always had to say this sentence to the people around him.
Virtual reality, multi-person online, accelerated thinking—as long as they weren't idiots, they could see the terrifying potential of this thing.
This work by the 11-year-old little Seer had already made him smell the scent of an impending era change.
"What, do you have any brilliant ideas?"
"If you dare to confront Dumbledore and that Seer face to face, then you can go grab a handful of Floo Powder and go to Hogwarts now. I'll wait for your good news." Fudge said with a smile.
Many things are like this. The problem isn't whether you can see if there's something wrong inside, but that you have to do it no matter what.
Reaching into his inner lining, Fudge took out his wand and stroked it.
The reason of politics is still not as hard as the reason of the wand.
If I could also become a powerful wizard—for a moment, Fudge's eyes were a little melancholy.
"Harry, this thing is much more fun than Wizard's Chess!" Ron said with a look of surprise.
After getting permission, they naturally started using it.
Roger found an abandoned old classroom inside Hogwarts, the one that previously housed the Mirror of Erised,
cleaned it up, and turned it into a virtual reality experience room.
But Roger discovered a new problem.
The little wizards of Hogwarts seemed to be a little too infatuated with the game.
Looking at the long line of students outside the old classroom, Roger pondered for a moment: "Should I add some anti-addiction mechanisms?"
