Hollywood Director 1992

On Friday, post-production for "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" was completed. A small-scale internal screening was held in Guess What Studio's screening room. The attendees were mainly heads of Guess What Studio and Columbia Pictures' distribution departments, along with the main cast and crew.
The movie was pretty good, quite funny.
However, the scenes were too chaotic, and Jim Carrey's performance was too exaggerated, not to Link's taste.
Nevertheless, other attendees at the screening gave the movie positive reviews. 16 people rated it above 80 points, 8 people scored it between 60-80 points, and only 4 people rated it below 60 points.
Based on everyone's scores, the movie was above average, with box office potential exceeding $60 million, making it a potential blockbuster.
The people from Columbia Pictures' distribution company were very satisfied after watching the movie and planned to use a B-level publicity package to promote it, with total expenses not less than $8 million.
Link didn't plan to interfere with the promotion of "Ace Ventura." He delegated the work to Joe Feller, the head of the company's distribution department. He would lead the contact and negotiation with Columbia Pictures regarding the promotion and distribution of "Ace Ventura."
After the screening of "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," the system gave a quality score of 82.43%, with Link's participation at 8%, including script modification, investment, and casting.
The box office subsidy was only 1.03 times, which would only be a few million higher than the original box office.
The director experience reward was 0, and the director's physique bonus was 1%.
The movie quality increase was only 0.5%.
This also shows that movies directed by others have extremely limited improvement effects on him.
To become stronger, he still needs to make his own movies.
"Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" is scheduled for release in September after production is complete.
Around the time of this movie, Guess What Studio has two other movies being released.
The first is Ang Lee's "The Wedding Banquet." This movie was produced by Good Machine, and is now being distributed by Guess What Studio.
It is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 4th and is currently in the promotion phase.
The second is Richard Linklater's "Dazed and Confused," which is being distributed by Guess What Studio and is expected to be released in October.
As "The Wedding Banquet" began its pre-release promotion, post-production for "Final Destination" was completed.
Link held an internal screening in Guess What Studio's screening room, inviting company management, the movie's main creators, and a few friends from the media to watch.
After the screening of "Final Destination," there was a round of applause lasting more than 5 minutes.
Joaquin Phoenix, Ryan Phillippe, Ben Affleck, and others kept applauding after watching the movie, praising "Final Destination" repeatedly, saying it was fantastic.
Link also thought the movie was very good after watching it.
Before filming, to prevent loopholes in the script, he discussed it in detail with several producers and screenwriters from the company, streamlining the plot to make the entire script look more refined.
Whether it was the scenes, the acting of the main cast, the movie's special effects, or the plot logic, everything was better than the original. Many loopholes and illogical parts of the original movie's plot were corrected by him.
For example, the scene where the male protagonist Alex saves the female protagonist Claire.
In the original version, lightning struck and broke the high-voltage power lines in front of Claire's house.
The broken high-voltage power lines flailed wildly on the ground, and the female protagonist, in order to save her dog, was in danger, later preparing to drive away.
The car malfunctioned, the gasoline tank exploded, and the high-voltage power lines were still flailing on the ground.
Just as the female protagonist was about to die, Alex rushed over, said a lot of nonsense, and then dragged the female protagonist out of the car.
That plot was handled very poorly.
The high-voltage power lines ran around the male and female protagonists, like a prank, and in the critical moment, the male protagonist said a long passage of nonsense to the female protagonist in the car, which seemed very inappropriate.
When writing the script, Link modified the way the male protagonist rescued the female protagonist and also reduced the dialogue, replacing it with other ways to 'save the damsel in distress,' which was much more effective than the original.
【Movie production complete, box office subsidy being calculated…】
【Host participation level: 67.3%, movie completion level: 92.3%, movie market compatibility: 76%】
【Rewards: 2.3x box office subsidy; director experience +20%; director physique +15%; movie quality increase +15%】
Seeing these numbers, Link smirked.
Compared to "The Blair Witch Project," "Final Destination" has an increase of more than 10 percentage points in participation, an increase of 5 percentage points in movie completion, and an increase of 6 percentage points in movie market compatibility.
And the movie rewards have also increased a lot. The box office subsidy reached 2.3 times, doubling that of "The Witch," the director experience and physique bonuses have doubled or tripled, and the movie quality increase is also 5% higher.
This shows that directing large movie projects yields more generous box office subsidies and personal rewards.
"Link, 'Final Destination' is the best disaster movie I've ever seen. After watching this movie, I'm a little afraid to fly again."
Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter praised.
"I hope it won't delay your next trip."
"Haha, no."
Aaron Kouchi, deputy editor of The Hollywood Reporter, said, "Link, 'Final Destination' is very good, not only thrilling but also very meaningful. After watching it, people will feel the impermanence of life and cherish every day even more. Link, after the movie is released, I'd like to do an exclusive interview with you to talk about the creative process of this movie, how about it?"
"No problem!"
"Director Link, this movie is awesome, very cool, I feel it will definitely be a hit."
"Director Link, I apologize to you. It was completely right for you to be stricter with us when filming."
"Yes, when watching the movie, I found that my acting skills are really good, even better than many veteran actors. Of course, I also want to thank Director Link for his guidance."
Joaquin Phoenix, Matt Damon, Edward Norton and others also came over to congratulate him.
Link smiled, dealt with them for a while, and then, on the pretext that there were still some problems with the movie that needed to be modified, he took the movie master tape into the editing studio and watched it several times again.
After receiving a 15% quality increase, the completion of "Final Destination" reached 98.9%.
The movie became more refined, the actors' performances looked more rounded and harmonious, and the special effects became extremely wonderful.
The plot also became more thrilling.
Originally, when watching it in the screening room, the movie's thrill level was average, a little stronger than "The Witch," but not as good as "Paranormal Activity."
But after the movie received a 15% quality increase, the movie's horror effects were greatly improved. For example, the scenes where Death appeared, the plane explosion scene, and the sudden deaths of several main characters became startling, very unexpected, giving people a great sense of fear.
When Link watched it alone in the editing studio, he was startled by the sudden music and plot twists, his heart pounding wildly, and the cool breeze from the air conditioner made his spine tingle and goosebumps appear.
The overall feeling was scarier than "Paranormal Activity."
Link smiled softly. This movie should give the audience a big surprise.
