Hollywood Director 1992

#182 - Movie Trailer

“Actors, get ready!”

“Scene 1, Take 1, Action!”

Because this movie relies heavily on logic, Link tries to shoot scenes in accordance with the story's development. However, the plot within a single location is filmed all at once to save costs.

“Someone heard them arguing, husband and wife, for about two hours, nothing else. Then they heard a gunshot, and the deceased was covered in blood.”

At a crime scene, a middle-aged detective said to old William, "A crime committed in the heat of the moment."

“Is that so? You can tell how impulsive it was just by looking at the marks on the wall.”

Old William, with his hands in his pockets, walked around the crime scene, examining the deceased's apartment. He suddenly stopped in front of a child's drawing. Old William put on his glasses and asked, "Did their child see all of this?"

“What?”

The middle-aged detective asked impatiently.

“Was the child present?”

“What kind of bullshit question is that? We're all very happy to hear you're retiring, you know that, Somerset? You always ask these bullshit questions. Did the child see it? Who cares? He's dead, his wife killed him, the rest has nothing to do with us.”

The middle-aged detective grumbled as he walked into the house.

Bang, bang, bang!

A series of footsteps came from the stairwell. Ben Affleck, playing David Mills, jogged up, wearing a black leather jacket, a white shirt, a tie, and short stubble on his chin.

After Mills came upstairs, he looked around the hallway, his eyes landing on old William.

“Detective Somerset?”

Old William turned to look at him.

“I'm Detective Mills!”

“Cut!”

Link called for a pause. After reviewing the shot, he walked to the set to talk with Morgan Freeman, Ben Affleck, and Charles, who played the middle-aged detective.

There was a bit of a coordination problem among the three in this scene. Morgan Freeman was two steps slow, and Ben Affleck's performance was not active enough, lacking the passion and youthful vigor of the character.

And Charles, who played the middle-aged detective, wasn't impatient enough; the emotion wasn't there.

Morgan Freeman is a veteran actor, having been nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor, but he was quite humble on set and willing to accept guidance from this young director.

This made the crew's filming work much smoother.

However, Ben Affleck's problem was still quite obvious: he didn't understand the character well enough, and his performance wasn't immersive enough.

He needed more coaching.

After explaining the scene, Link announced that they would shoot again. The second take went smoothly, without any major problems.

However, to help Ben Affleck get into character faster, Link shot the second half of the scene two more times, wanting Ben to find the feeling of playing David Mills.

This scene took a whole day to shoot.

While Link was filming in New York, the second trailer for 'Final Destination' was released.

The first trailer mainly announced the movie's stars and release date.

The second trailer had more content and a more shocking plot, telling the audience through the trailer, 'Death wants you dead by three, won't leave you till five,' 'Life and death are impermanent, everyone will die,' 'After everyone is born, Death designs their way and time of death, no one can escape Death's pursuit,' and so on.

This trailer also had some large-scale special effects scenes.

This was to attract the audience's attention.

The trailer worked well. After being broadcast on television, many people noticed the movie and remained expectant.

“Why don't we stop Guessing Game Pictures from promoting this movie on TV, prevent them from doing widespread promotion? If no one knows the movie's release date, the movie naturally won't be a big hit.”

Robert Downey Jr. was a little anxious after watching the 'Final Destination' trailer. The movie seemed quite interesting, and he couldn't help but want to see it in the theater.

Kiefer Sutherland said, "That's difficult. Guessing Game Pictures needs to spend millions or tens of millions of dollars to promote the movie on TV. That's a big contract. The seven major media groups won't not make that money because of CAA. They don't have a habit of helping others for fun."

Robert Downey Jr. said, "Then ban the movie. We can contact the theater chains and prevent the movie from being released, or prevent it from being released on a large scale. As long as the number of theaters showing it is smaller, the movie won't be a big hit."

“I'm afraid that won't work either. The theater chains all know that Link's movies do well at the box office. Releasing his movies can get them a bigger share. It's said that before Link's new movie is released, the three major theater chains are vying to show the movie in their theaters, giving him a higher box office split than the commercial blockbusters produced by the seven major studios. If we want to convince all the theater chains not to show 'Final Destination,' just talking won't do. Unless we give them money, give them tens of millions to compensate for the theater chains' losses. If we do that, we'll still need to take out a lot of money, which is very uneconomical.”

David Duchovny said.

Kiefer Sutherland said, “That’s right. Besides, banning a movie that has passed censorship also involves monopoly. Even Ovitz wouldn’t do such a thing.”

“This won’t work, that won’t work, are we just going to watch Link’s movie be a big hit?”

No mistake, one first, one inside, one appearance, one look!

Robert Downey Jr. was very anxious.

Not long ago, Ovitz asked everyone to raise funds to help promote 'The Firm.' According to the amount he bet, he needed to pay another two million dollars.

This also led to his debt reaching 5.8 million dollars.

If he lost the bet, he would go bankrupt and become a pauper.

Every time he thought of these things, he would become irritable and anxious.

Now, seeing that the 'Final Destination' trailer was very good, his anxiety became even heavier.

Kiefer Sutherland patted Robert on the back, "Robert, don't worry. 'The Firm' reached 202 million dollars in the first 15 weeks. That number is not something any movie can get casually. 'Final Destination' is just a higher-cost thriller. From the current situation, it won't be easy to get 100 million, let alone 202 million.

Don't forget how much resources CAA and Paramount Pictures spent to get 'The Firm' to 202 million, how much money and time we spent. Do Link and Guessing Game Pictures have these conditions? No, so don't worry too much."

Robert Downey Jr. nodded, thinking that the process of 'The Firm' getting 202 million was so difficult, it wouldn't be too easy for 'Final Destination' to break that number.

“Pitt, what's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything?”

David Duchovny looked at Brad Pitt, who was drinking silently.

“I think I missed out on a great movie role.”

Brad Pitt drank his beer and scratched his scalp with his thumb.

“What role?”

“Whose movie?”

Robert and the others looked at him.

“Seven!”

Brad Pitt sighed.
