Hollywood Director 1992

#196 - Award Ceremony

Including Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon" and "The Big Boss" wouldn't count either.

After chatting for several tens of minutes, the 51st Golden Globe Awards ceremony began.

The American Golden Globe Awards for Film and Television were founded in 1943 and are hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. They are one of the most important awards in the American film and television industry. The Golden Globes have a total of 24 awards, 13 for film and 11 for television.

The film awards are divided into two major categories, including Drama - Best Picture - Best Actor and Actress, and Comedy/Musical - Best Picture - Best Actor and Actress. Other awards such as Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and Best Screenplay are judged together.

Last year, Guess Pictures released a total of five films. Although several films performed well at the box office, their artistic level was not high. Only "The Wedding Banquet" received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

After more than three hours of judging, the awards were announced one after another.

"Schindler's List," which was released at the end of last year, won 3 out of 6 nominations, taking home Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, becoming the biggest winner at this year's Golden Globes.

The comedy film "Mrs. Doubtfire," starring Robin Williams, won Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor – Musical or Comedy, becoming the second biggest winner.

Tom Hanks, with his brilliant performance in "Philadelphia," defeated Daniel Day-Lewis, Harrison Ford, Anthony Hopkins, and Liam Neeson to win Best Actor – Drama.

Winona Ryder won Best Supporting Actress for her good performance in "The Age of Innocence."

"Farewell My Concubine" won Best Foreign Language Film.

"Haha, Link, it's hard to see you lately. I didn't expect you to come to the Golden Globes."

Harvey Weinstein, holding a trophy, came over from the crowd during the awards ceremony.

"I came with Monica for a stroll. Congratulations on winning the award."

Link shook his hand.

"Haha, I'm accepting it on their behalf. You know, I don't need this."

Harvey laughed and handed the trophy to his assistant.

Last year, Miramax Films released 9 films, with three films nominated for the Golden Globes, receiving 11 nominations: "Farewell My Concubine" with 1 nomination, "The Piano" with 7 nominations, and "Blue" from the "Three Colors" trilogy with 3 nominations.

"Farewell My Concubine" won Best Foreign Language Film, and "The Piano" won Best Actress – Drama.

It was considered a great harvest.

Miramax Films and Harvey Weinstein also became one of the focuses of the awards ceremony.

"Link, I heard your new movie is finished. When will 'The Butterfly Effect' start filming?"

Harvey sat down in an empty seat.

"The new movie hasn't been fully edited yet. The production period will take more than a month. I probably won't have time to film a movie until April or May."

"Okay, besides 'The Butterfly Effect,' do you have any other film projects?"

Harvey Weinstein said with a smile while smoking a cigarette, "You know, although I don't know how to make movies, I have some tricks in publicizing film awards. I heard you want to win the Oscar for Best Director. As long as you cooperate with me a few more times, I guarantee to make you the youngest Oscar-winning Best Director in history."

"Sounds great, I also look forward to working with you."

Link nodded and smiled, and then talked to Harvey about the publicity work for "Pulp Fiction."

This movie was completed at the end of last year.

Considering the release schedule, the movie was delayed until April.

Two weeks ago, Quentin Tarantino took "Pulp Fiction" to the Berlin International Film Festival and won the Golden Bear for Best Director.

After Quentin won the Golden Bear, he specially brought the trophy to Guess Pictures and flaunted it in front of Link, just like a fisherman who caught a three-foot big fish and couldn't resist showing off in front of his fishing buddies.

However, "Pulp Fiction" received good reviews during the film festival and received praise from many European media outlets.

Miramax is confident in the movie's box office and decided to increase the film's publicity efforts.

Guess Pictures will cooperate with their work.

After sending Harvey away, Link took Monica around the cocktail party and congratulated director Spielberg, who won Best Director, Tom Hanks, who won Best Actor – Drama, Robin Williams, who won Best Actor – Musical or Comedy, Winona Ryder, who won Best Supporting Actress, and the "Farewell My Concubine" crew.

He also talked to several people about cooperation.

After Guess Pictures integrated Good Machine and TriStar Entertainment, its production and distribution capabilities have increased more than tenfold, becoming one of the most powerful production companies in the independent film industry.

If several people have film projects that the seven major film companies are unwilling to invest in, they can consider Guess Pictures.

Several people agreed.

No error, one first, one inside, one content, one in, one look!

Although Guess Pictures is an independent film company, all six films produced and distributed last year were big hits, and the total box office revenue was not worse than that of the seven major film companies.

Currently, Guess Pictures has money and people, making it a very good partner.

"This Link looks very impressive. Even director Spielberg is polite to him."

Zhang Fengyi, the male lead of the "Farewell My Concubine" crew, looked at Link in the crowd. A Chinese man was walking around among a group of European and American celebrities. No matter where he went, those celebrities were very polite to him, making him look like a big shot.

"More than just impressive, he's a king."

Chen Kaige shook his head and looked at Zhang Fengyi, "Haven't you heard of Link? That's not right. 'Paranormal Activity,' which he directed and starred in, was also shown in domestic art cinemas. Haven't you seen it?"

Due to the subject matter, of the three films directed by Link, only "Paranormal Activity" has been released on a small scale in mainland art cinemas. The other two, "Buried" and "Final Destination," have not yet been released, but there are also pirated DVDs of the two films on the market.

"Paranormal Activity? That's not a good movie."

"Shhh! Keep your voice down."

Chen Kaige said in a low voice, "From an artistic point of view, this movie was filmed relatively average, but the box office was high, with a global box office of more than 600 million US dollars, which is more than 4 billion RMB."

"More than 4 billion? Just that movie?"

Zhang Fengyi had seen "Paranormal Activity." That movie was very novel, and the story was interesting, but no matter what, it was a low-budget movie. A movie like that had a global box office of more than 4 billion, which was higher than the total box office of all the movies released in mainland China that year, which made him feel very incredible.

"Paranormal Activity' was the North American box office champion of 1992, higher than Disney's annual animation 'Aladdin' and 'Batman Returns.'" Director Chen Kaige was very envious. If his movie could get a box office of 4 billion, no, 400 million, he could laugh himself awake in his dreams.

Another male lead, Leslie Cheung, said, "Hong Kong newspapers say that Link is very good at making money. At 22 years old, his net worth is hundreds of billions of Hong Kong dollars, not inferior to the Li family and the Huo family in Hong Kong."

"A net worth of hundreds of billions? Really? Whose young master is he?"

Zhang Fengyi looked at Link again. He only thought he was young, handsome, and talented, but now he felt that he was shining with golden light from head to toe, extremely rich and noble.
