Hollywood starts with a broker
#10 - A video store
West Hollywood, in Aaron's apartment.
Nicole Kidman knocked on the door early in the morning.
"What's up? What's wrong? Wouldn't it have been easier to just call me?" Aaron, looking a bit listless, welcomed her inside.
"I'm going to wash up. There are drinks in the fridge, help yourself. If you want coffee, make it yourself..."
Nicole Kidman was stunned for a moment. Was this how he treated guests?
She opened her mouth, about to say something, but saw him already heading into the bathroom.
A dozen or so minutes later, a washed-up Aaron Anderson came before Nicole, "So, what's so important that you came over so early in the morning?"
Nicole Kidman rubbed her forehead. "The screening! You're the one who told me about it! Warner Bros. is holding a preview event for 'Flight of the Intruder'!"
"That's tonight. It's still early," Aaron glanced at the woman. "Could you please not doubt my professionalism?"
Nicole Kidman sighed helplessly, "You've signed me for over half a month now, and you haven't even called to check on my career!"
Not only Nicole Kidman, but Steven Soderbergh as well. Aaron didn't bother to care when he had nothing to do, after all, both were newcomers and didn't have any activities?
Aaron shook his head, went into the study to grab a few pages of paper, "This is a romantic comedy that Disney is preparing. I quite like the story, and I'm trying to find a way."
Nicole Kidman took it and looked at it, "This shouldn't be a script, right?"
"It's not complete. Disney wouldn't let this kind of script pass. The script definitely needs to be modified," Aaron shook his head. Hollywood now has too much competition. Without some connections, getting the female lead is really difficult.
"I heard that you seem to have bought a script yourself," Nicole Kidman's eyes were burning. She was just an unknown right now, but if it was her own agent's project, how could the female lead slip away?
"That's something I'm keeping for my own development. Where would I get the resources right now?"
Aaron's main problem now was that he didn't have much fame. He was a newcomer, but once Steven Soderbergh's work "Sex, Lies, and Videotape" made a splash at the Cannes Film Festival, Aaron's reputation would definitely increase in the industry!
"Then, this project, can you help me get an audition opportunity?" Nicole Kidman waved the few pages of paper in her hand.
Aaron nodded, "Sure, I've been studying this project recently, don't worry!"
"Let's go, let's go out and get something to eat, and I'll take you to get a new look."
Aaron really couldn't stand Nicole Kidman's ramen noodle hairstyle.
"Doesn't my hairstyle look good?"
"No, it doesn't match your looks and figure!"
"Aaron, you have good qualities, why don't you develop in the direction of an artist?"
"I can't stand the pressure..."
Around noon, Aaron took Nicole Kidman to a styling shop. After giving some instructions, he prepared to go out for a stroll.
"Nicole, get your hair done first, I'll come pick you up later!"
"Okay..."
Afterward, Aaron left the shop and noticed a small video store nearby, so he walked in.
Video stores now mainly sell and rent movie videotapes and laser discs. Music includes vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes, etc.
There aren't many types of movies and singers.
"Whoa, ha," suddenly, Aaron heard the sound of a television coming from the counter. He walked over to take a look.
Hey, a Hong Kong kung fu movie. A young man with a very unique appearance in front of the television was intently staring at the screen.
"Oh, sir, do you need any help?" The person heard the sound, stood up, and greeted the customer, apparently not forgetting his duty.
Aaron blinked. This appearance was really too abstract. Wasn't this Quentin Tarantino?
However, the current Quentin was not yet 30 years old, but he was indeed ugly!
"This is an old-fashioned Hong Kong kung fu movie. I didn't expect someone in America to like it?" Aaron said with a smile, pointing to the videotape on the television.
"Yeah, I really like it. This is a work from Hong Kong's Shaw Brothers company. I really like this kind of masculine and hard-hitting scene!"
Aaron nodded, "Not bad. Now, Hollywood is the number one exporter of movies, and Hong Kong is the second in the world. You have to know, Hong Kong is only a city with six million people."
Hollywood now produces about 400 to 500 movies a year, and about half of them can be released in theaters!
"Oh, it seems like you know about Hong Kong movies?"
"Not bad," Aaron said, extending his hand, "CAA agent, Aaron Anderson!"
The other person was stunned for a moment, "You're a CAA agent!"
He shook hands with Aaron, "Hello, I'm Quentin Tarantino, a movie enthusiast."
"Well, I can see that. Working in a video store allows you to watch movies to your heart's content. Not a bad idea," Aaron said, sizing him up. He knew how to choose a job.
"Um," Quentin Tarantino looked at Aaron a little awkwardly, "Your agents, can they also promote scripts?"
"Of course. Two months ago, I helped a new director promote a movie 'Sex, Lies, and Videotape' at the Sundance Film Festival. It's going to Cannes in May. You can follow it!"
Aaron said, without leaving a trace.
"Uh, well, I've also made short films myself before, and I've also conceived scripts. Would you like to see how they are?"
"Uh, you can write scripts?" Aaron deliberately looked at Quentin Tarantino.
Quentin Tarantino nodded, "I've conceived two scripts, would you like to see them?"
"Sure," Aaron said, handing the other person a business card, "Give me a call when you're ready and give them to me to take a look. I'll help you promote them;"
"If possible, you can also sign with me. After promoting the script, it's not impossible to support you in making movies and becoming a director in the future!"
Quentin Tarantino quickly nodded, looking delighted, "Next month, I can organize the two scripts and give them to you to see;"
"My dream is to make movies, to be a director and make the works I like!"
"Well, people must have dreams," Aaron even patted the other person's shoulder, "You can check my news. Newspapers about this year's Sundance Film Festival should mention me."
"Don't worry, it's already great that you can help me promote the script," Quentin Tarantino specially sent Aaron out of the video store.
"See you, prepare the script well, I'll support you in becoming a director in the future," Aaron even waved to Quentin Tarantino at the door.
"See you!" Quentin Tarantino was obviously a little excited.
After leaving the video store, Aaron pinched his face. A Nicole Kidman, plus a Quentin Tarantino;
Am I having a lucky streak now?
