#253 - Scared to the point of breaking out in a cold sweat

Late at night, in the pitch-black bedroom, Aaron was sound asleep in bed, embracing Jennifer Aniston!

Suddenly, the house shook violently, instantly waking them both. Aaron sat up, still a bit dazed, "What's going on?"

"Ah, it's an earthquake!" Jennifer Aniston shrieked.

"FUCK, get out of here!" Aaron broke out in a cold sweat and jumped straight out of bed.

Jennifer Aniston, her face drained of color, also quickly leaped out of bed, wanting to get dressed.

"Don't bother dressing, just grab a blanket," Aaron and Jennifer Aniston were both naked, but there was no time for that now.

Together, they grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around themselves.

"Ah!" Jennifer Aniston screamed as she fell while rushing out of the bedroom!

Aaron immediately turned back, pulled her up, and then they both huddled in a corner, Jennifer Aniston clinging tightly to the man beside her.

The entire earthquake didn't last long, only about 30 seconds, but Aaron was drenched in a cold sweat!

After quickly throwing on some clothes, he and Jennifer Aniston went outside, where many people had gathered in front of their houses.

Soon, Aaron received the news that a magnitude 6.6 earthquake had struck the Northridge area of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles!

"A little after 4 AM," Aaron glanced at the time, holding Jennifer Aniston in his arms, "Tonight was truly an exciting night…"

As dawn broke on January 17, 1994, at 4:17 AM, the news of the 6.6 magnitude earthquake in the Northridge area of Los Angeles quickly spread among the public.

Besides the collapsed buildings, the freeways, overpasses, power grids, gas lines, and water systems in the Northridge area were also severely damaged!

Although the earthquake caused significant losses to Los Angeles, the government was committed to disaster relief.

However, at the 1994 Golden Globe Awards held a few days later, the Hollywood stars were still glamorous and the atmosphere was lively.

At the Golden Globe Awards dinner held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, "The Piano" won Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Actress.

"Philadelphia" earned Tom Hanks the Best Actor – Drama award, and the Chinese film "Farewell My Concubine" deservedly won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film!

That night, in the Bel Air villa, Aaron held Christiana Yeri in his arms in bed, sighing, "It seems like a lot of people died this time?"

"Yeah," Christiana Yeri, her face flushed, embraced the man, "The newspapers said that 62 people died in the earthquake, and about 9,000 were injured."

"More than 2,500 buildings were destroyed, and more than 4,000 were severely damaged, with a total of more than 11,000 houses collapsing, leaving more than 25,000 people homeless."

"It really is a fault line earthquake zone," Aaron said, shaking his head as he stroked Christiana Yeri in his arms!

The Los Angeles earthquake caused huge economic losses to Los Angeles and also had a huge impact on American insurance companies.

Because of the Northridge earthquake in California, the insurance industry paid out approximately $12.5 billion in losses!

The current Governor of California, Pete Wilson, also came to Los Angeles from Sacramento to personally participate in the disaster relief efforts.

The American Red Cross also cooperated with the government in disaster management.

Bradbury Building, downtown Los Angeles.

Governor Pete Wilson, California Senator Dianne Feinstein, and other political figures met with a group of Los Angeles celebrities to hold a charity dinner!

Aaron specifically attended the dinner with Jack Wells and talked about this year's California gubernatorial election.

"Pete Wilson's handling of this crisis was quite impressive!"

Aaron said, sipping champagne, "I estimate that Pete Wilson should be able to win re-election."

Jack Wells smiled, "So you plan to support Pete Wilson?"

"It's not really support, but our funds will definitely be sent over," Aaron shrugged, "That's the rule of the game."

"I am more optimistic about Senator Dianne Feinstein. She will also be re-elected this year, so we should strongly support her!"

Jack Wells was optimistic about Dianne Feinstein, the former first female mayor of San Francisco.

Feinstein ran for Governor of California as a Democratic candidate and lost to Republican Pete Wilson.

When Pete Wilson officially became Governor in January 1991, his original position as a California Senator became vacant.

Dianne Feinstein won the special election in 1992 and was successfully elected as a California Senator!

Aaron smiled and nodded, "Of course."

In California's current political landscape, Governor Pete Wilson belongs to the Republican Party, but with Clinton's rise to power, California's Democratic consciousness has become increasingly strong.

Not only are both California Senators Democrats, but the Speaker of the State Assembly, Willie Brown, is also a Democrat and a staunch supporter of Clinton!

"There are more and more liberals in the greater Los Angeles area now."

Jack Wells was stunned for a moment, "We are now supporting George W. Bush and these Republican governors like Pete Wilson."

"Will it affect some of our investments within the Democratic Party?"

Aaron smiled, "Affect what? Who isn't hedging their bets now? As long as the people related to us can develop in the political arena, they will be rewarded."

"Supporting Pete Wilson is normal. We are California companies, this is investing in the present. As for George W. Bush in Texas, it is investing in the future."

"If George W. Bush is elected governor, our returns will be even greater. Besides, his father has been the President of the United States, who can think that he has no intention of sitting on the presidential throne?"

Investing in George W. Bush was originally investing in the future, and a long-term future.

Starting to invest from the very beginning, when George W. Bush eventually ascends to the presidential throne, his own gains will only be greater!

"Okay, you have a point," Jack Wells hesitated a little, but he never opposed Aaron Anderson's decisions.

Who could achieve such great achievements at the age of 24?

"Let's go, we should go and get to know them, and increase our rapport."

Saying that, Aaron patted Jack Wells on the shoulder, "How long are you planning to stay this time?"

Jack Wells now frequently travels between Houston and Los Angeles, after all, he exists as Aaron's representative in the Houston Rockets.

"A week, maybe…"
