#256 - Being a savior

Burbank, Dawn Headquarters.

In Aaron's office, Dawn Steel brought over a script, "Good Will Hunting"!

"Matt Damon and Ben Affleck adapted it together?"

Aaron was a little surprised. Matt Damon had previously starred in Dawn's "Scent of a Woman", and he had actually adapted a script.

"Yes, this script now belongs to Castle Rock Entertainment, and director Rob Reiner has given a lot of modification suggestions;"

"Now, this script is looking for a new home!"

Aaron was taken aback for a moment, "Doesn't Castle Rock Entertainment think it's good?"

Dawn Steel shook her head, "Castle Rock Entertainment is quite optimistic, but Rob Reiner is not very willing to accept these two screenwriters as the leads!"

Originally, the script for "Good Will Hunting" was originally an assignment submitted by Damon in his screenwriting class at Harvard. The course only required writing one scene, but Matt Damon turned in a 40-page script;

Subsequently, Matt Damon left Harvard and officially entered the entertainment industry. After having this script, Matt Damon found his good friend Ben Affleck and worked with him to improve it.

However, the original story was mainly a thriller crime subject, telling the story of the male protagonist being targeted by the US government on the street because of his super high IQ...

Last year, Castle Rock Entertainment bought the script. Rob Reiner, one of the company's partners and a famous director, suggested to the two that the focus of the script should be on the relationship between the male protagonist and the psychology professor;

Subsequently, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck changed the framework of the script "Good Will Hunting" according to Rob Reiner's suggestion!

After "Scent of a Woman" was released, Matt Damon gained some fame, and Castle Rock Entertainment was also preparing to develop "Good Will Hunting";

However, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, as screenwriters, hoped to star in it themselves. However, many producers, including those at Castle Rock Entertainment, hoped to use bigger and more handsome actors!

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck expressed that they still hoped to star in their own script. The two conducted commercial negotiations with Castle Rock Entertainment:

Castle Rock Entertainment gave the two 30 days to find a film company willing to buy the script copyright from Castle Rock and agree to their conditions;

If they can't find it, Castle Rock will continue to produce the project, and Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will be out.

Dawn Steel shrugged, "Castle Rock Entertainment is asking for $1 million, and most film companies are simply not interested;"

"Matt Damon had a very pleasant collaboration with our Dawn before, and of course he also sent the script to me. I think it's not bad."

It's just that it is indeed a bit outrageous for a script by a new screenwriter to sell for $1 million. Castle Rock Entertainment must have the idea of deliberately asking for a high price;

After all, before, the script "Scream" by the new screenwriter Kevin Williamson was obtained by Dawn for only $750,000 through bidding!

Aaron flipped through the script and raised the corner of his mouth, "Castle Rock Entertainment seems to be optimistic about this script;"

"Agree to them, let's be Matt Damon's savior. Dawn Pictures accepts the price of $1 million;"

"By the way, remember to also agree to Matt Damon and Ben Affleck participating in this movie as screenwriters and leading actors!"

Matt Damon is 24 years old this year, about the same age as Aaron. He starred in "Scent of a Woman", which is okay;

As for Ben Affleck, who is now 22 years old, he is completely a newcomer.

The male lead in "Good Will Hunting" can indeed use Matt Damon. As for Ben Affleck, he can play an important supporting role in it. After all, the male lead and the professor are the leads, and the rest are supporting roles!

Dawn Steel nodded, "After buying the script, will we go directly into preparation?"

"Of course!" Aaron raised an eyebrow.

Speaking of Matt Damon, Aaron quickly thought of the other party's most famous agent series, "The Bourne Identity";

It is based on the "Bourne" trilogy "The Bourne Identity", "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum" by the famous American thriller novelist Robert Ludlum!

Dawn Steel frowned when she heard Aaron suddenly mention the Bourne series trilogy again.

"Aaron, the 1988 mini-series "The Bourne Identity" starring Richard Chamberlain was filmed completely according to the original work;"

"The effect is not very ideal!"

Aaron shook his head, "Don't worry, do you still remember that Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner plan to remake the TV series "Mission: Impossible", which is also about agents;"

"The Bourne trilogy of novels is very good. Although the adapted TV movie was not very successful, I believe our Dawn will be different;"

"Go and negotiate with the author Robert Ludlum to acquire the novel adaptation rights!"

Since Aaron decided, Dawn Steel naturally had no objection. Anyway, she also had to go to Castle Rock Entertainment to buy the script for "Good Will Hunting", and it wouldn't be a problem to talk to Robert Ludlum about the novel adaptation rights.

Mario Kassar nodded, "We plan to invite James Cameron to adapt the script and serve as director;"

"James Cameron had a meeting with me last year after finishing the filming of "True Lies". He is still very interested in directing "Spider-Man"!"

Aaron's eyelids twitched, "James Cameron?"

How much money would it cost to find him to direct?

After all, the production budget for "True Lies", which he and Arnold Schwarzenegger directed last year, broke the record of "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" again, reaching $115 million;

Besides, does Carolco have money? Aren't they preparing for "Cutthroat Island"?

Even the "Crusade" project co-operated by Paul Verhoeven and Arnold Schwarzenegger has been rejected!

Aaron looked at Mario Kassar and only asked one question, "If James Cameron is invited to direct, the budget must be at least $120 million;"

"Carolco, how much funding can you provide?"

Dawn certainly doesn't lack funds, but if Carolco wants to participate, what else can it do besides contribute money?
