I am terminally ill, but I am healing the world with my songs
#25 - Chapter 25: The one who brings warmth to others has never felt the warmth
As night fell, Wen He happily returned home.
Tonight, he had spent an hour at Cheng Yudie's house, enjoying a delicious meal, and Cheng Yudie had even given him a small square necklace.
Wen He initially didn't want it, but Cheng Yudie was too insistent and made him accept it.
She even said it was a 'lucky square' that would bring good fortune.
In reality, it was Cheng Yudie's miniature GPS tracker with a recording function.
"Wen He! Come here!"
Wen Mother's angry voice made Wen He's heart sink, and he immediately felt a sense of foreboding.
He walked cautiously towards the living room, where he saw Wen Father and Wen Mother sitting with serious expressions, their eyes filled with coldness as they looked at him.
"Where have you been loitering around!?!"
"Uncle Zhang told me that you get off work at 8:30 PM. Look at the time. What time is it now!"
"Don't tell me the bus got lost and took you on a tour to another province before bringing you back."
Hearing this, Wen He trembled, lowering his head guiltily.
His heart pounded like thunder, beating wildly.
Extremely frightened, he didn't dare to look his parents in the eye.
Wen He never expected that even though he had worked overtime for an hour and a half, Uncle Zhang would still call his mother about it.
"Also, you were late this morning, weren't you?"
"I went to great lengths to ask people for favors and gifts to get you into that factory. Is this how you repay me?"
Wen Mother's words made Wen He lower his head even further. Immense fear made his body tremble uncontrollably.
He was like a child who had made a mistake being lectured by their parents.
At this moment, any explanation seemed incredibly weak.
"I only found out about this today because I called to ask about your recent situation."
"Otherwise, how long were you planning to hide it?"
"Yesterday, you also got off work at 8:00 PM, but you didn't come back until 11:00 PM, pretending to be exhausted from working late."
"Acting? Who are you acting for? Are you acting for us?"
Every word she spoke accurately pierced Wen He's heart.
She always speculated about Wen He with the most malicious intentions.
"But Mom, I still finished all the housework when I got back..."
Wen He wanted to try to gain something.
Perhaps motherly love, perhaps concern, perhaps understanding...
"What? Do you want me to praise you?"
"Wow, so amazing, coming back from hard work and still doing the housework."
"Our Wen He is really great."
"How is it? Are you satisfied now?"
Hearing these words, Wen He felt a bottomless despair.
Wen He's eyes were slightly red, and unspeakable grievances swirled within him.
All his efforts were denied, ignored, and taken for granted...
Even if he did everything perfectly, his parents still wouldn't let go.
It seemed they couldn't bear to see him have even a moment of rest.
They wanted every minute and every second of his time to produce value.
"What's that thing on your neck?" Wen Father, who hadn't spoken, said in a deep voice.
"A classmate gave it to me before..." Wen He explained, choking up.
"A girl gave it to you, right?"
"Yes..."
"Tell me about it. It's best not to lie to me. If I find out you're lying, you know the consequences."
Wen Father's short sentence made Wen He's hair stand on end, and immense fear instantly enveloped him.
Wen He didn't dare to lie even a little in front of the angry Wen Father and told him everything truthfully.
The scene of being hung up and beaten until he bled because of a cough was still vivid in his mind.
"So, you've been eating dinner at her house lately?" Wen Father questioned.
"Yes..." Wen He nodded slightly.
"I don't object to you going to her house to play, as long as you don't neglect your work and do everything you need to do at home."
"When you get your salary, deposit all the money into my card, however much there is. Don't make us go to Uncle Zhang to verify."
"You're not qualified to be in a relationship yet. Don't delay others. Just be friends honestly, and don't have any ulterior motives."
Hearing his father's words, Wen He nodded silently.
He naturally understood what his father was thinking.
Wen Father certainly supported Wen He eating and drinking for free at Cheng Yudie's house.
But if he wanted to take money out of Wen He's pocket, that was impossible.
It could be said that he calculated the benefits to the extreme.
He had been thinking about buying Cheng Yudie a small gift when he got his salary.
Now,
Wen Father's warning completely dispelled that idea.
...
...
Cheng Yudie heard everything they said clearly.
"Wen He..."
She hugged her pillow, listening to the cold, malicious words, and tears flowed uncontrollably.
Cheng Yudie couldn't imagine that Wen He had grown up in such a family environment.
How could parents speak so harshly to their own child, and even calculate all of the child's benefits so clearly?
Cheng Yudie felt cold and piercing just listening to those words.
Especially Wen Mother's extremely sarcastic remarks, every sentence seemed to be digging into Wen He's heart.
Wen He had already taken the bus to the factory at 7:00 AM and didn't get off work until 8:30 PM. After playing at her house for an hour, he still had to do housework when he got home.
He had already done so much, yet Wen Father and Wen Mother were still not satisfied and still had to be sarcastic and scold him.
Cheng Yudie seriously suspected that they were intentionally pushing Wen He to his death.
This didn't seem like a mother-son relationship at all, but rather like enemies.
It was as if they felt uncomfortable if Wen He was even slightly better off.
They even wanted to take all of Wen He's hard-earned income for themselves!
Cheng Yudie understood why Wen He was drenched in the rain that day...
It turned out that he really didn't even have the money to take the bus home.
Thinking about it this way...
Wen He had forced himself to walk home after resting at her house for a while!?
Thinking of this, Cheng Yudie cried so hard that she couldn't catch her breath and was on the verge of collapse.
"Why... why do they treat their own son like this...?"
"Wen He... all these years... how much darkness have you experienced at home...?"
"The person who brings warmth to people... has never felt warmth..."
"You try your best to heal people's scarred hearts..."
"But... who can heal your heart...?"
Cheng Yudie really didn't expect to hear such a thing on the first day she put this miniature tracking device on Wen He.
Her heart ached as if it were being stabbed, and she could barely breathe.
In Cheng Yudie's darkest and coldest days, Wen He had brought her warmth and pulled her out.
But who would have thought that the darkness and coldness that Wen He had experienced had far exceeded her understanding.
No wonder that song 'The Deep Sea' was so suffocating, so desperate, so lonely, so cold...
"Ding ding ~"
Cheng Yudie's phone rang with a unique ringtone.
She wiped away her tears and slowly picked up her phone.
"I'm sorry, I might not have time to come find you to play lately."
Looking at the message on her phone, the tears she had just wiped away blurred her vision again.
