I created the Bureau of Anomaly Control
#519 - 510. Complete inspection
The inspection team arrived almost half an hour after Zasna left. When they pushed open the door, Mann noticed that the entrance wasn't a typical corridor, but a spacious antechamber. Clearly, the room he was in was specifically designed for "special prisoners" like himself.
The inspection personnel who surged in were all clad in thick, armor-like suits, completely isolating them from the outside world and denying Mann any chance to contaminate or harm them.
They also wheeled in several complex instruments. Some were mechanical devices that Mann could understand, but others were bizarre creatures resembling giant worms. The inspection team, carrying these devices of various sizes, silently surrounded Mann and began the inspection, without any intention of communicating with him.
However, Mann could hear muffled sounds coming from beneath their armor. Even though he couldn't decipher the garbled noises into words or sentences, as if the sounds were encrypted, it seemed they were communicating amongst themselves.
Like a puppet, Mann cooperated, occasionally raising his hand and taking a few steps between the mechanical devices, allowing them to manipulate him for testing, all the while preparing to escape.
But the inspection proceeded smoothly. Mann could even sense from the Titans' movements that they were becoming increasingly relaxed throughout the process, as if they were almost certain he posed no threat.
They left without saying a word, silently taking the complex devices out of the room and back into the antechamber, locking Mann inside again.
After they completed the inspection, Mann didn't laze around. He followed Zasna's instructions and went to the study, browsing through the books of questionable authenticity.
These were precisely what Mann had come here for.
However, he didn't immediately search for the content he truly cared about. Instead, he started reading the books he "should care about," even though he already knew much of the information within.
Even in these books that he was supposedly familiar with, there was a lot of information he didn't know, which was very helpful for expanding the Bureau's database. However, he needed to be a bit careful while reading.
Because he soon realized that the information in these books wasn't entirely accurate, especially when it came to the Titan Era and the Post-Titan Era. Mann could sense that this content wasn't as rigorous, and it differed slightly from what he had previously understood. Fortunately, these weren't the things Mann truly wanted.
He wanted to know if there were any ways to deal with the Gods. However, although these books gave him a slightly better understanding of the Gods, it was far from enough to use that knowledge against them.
Even the "essence of the Gods" that Zasna had casually mentioned wasn't recorded in these books. It was clear that although Zasna wasn't particularly wary of him, they hadn't really put everything in the study.
It seemed that if he wanted to learn the Gods' weaknesses or ways to deal with them, he would still have to communicate with the Titans, especially Zasna, who seemed to have a relatively good attitude towards him.
He also needed to understand the current Titan rulers' mainstream views on humans, and where in this city or the ruins outside the city he could find Tier V weapons to deal with the Gods. If there were any particularly powerful and abandoned weapons against the Gods, he could simply steal them and run back to the Federation.
That was the worst-case scenario. If the Titan rulers' attitude towards humans and the Gods was more nuanced, he might be able to use these Titan rulers to fight against the Gods, or even get their help.
After all, thinking seriously, it might be a good thing for them to have humans and Gods fighting each other.
With these thoughts in mind, Mann began to pretend to be a normal Esper who had accidentally wandered into this place. After reading enough books to satisfy his curiosity, he showed slight annoyance and fatigue, and began looking for other entertainment in the room, trying to interact with the furniture he didn't recognize.
But because he couldn't figure out these things, he returned to the desk and reluctantly read all kinds of books for another hour, barely spending more than five minutes on each, only scratching the surface.
Unable to stand reading any longer, Mann returned to the living room and began exercising in place, using sweat to forcefully divert his attention and tire his body.
After constantly killing time, feeling somewhat tired, he finally found the furniture that should serve as a bed, lay down on it, tossed and turned for more than ten minutes, and was slowly dragged into sleep by fatigue.
When he regained clear consciousness, he was awakened by the bright sunshine outside the window.
When he first felt the warmth shining on him, Mann felt a little uncomfortable, because it had been a long time since he had slept in a place touched by sunlight. However, he quickly remembered that he was no longer in the Federation, and what was falling on him was not real sunlight.
Shortly after he finished washing up with the Titans' tools, he heard very clear footsteps coming from the door—he couldn't hear anything when the inspection team came.
Knock, knock.
The visitor knocked on the door.
Mann opened the door, and the figure standing outside was not unexpected. It was Princess Zasna, and she had taken off her mechanical armor, looking like an ordinary beautiful woman.
"I heard they've completed the inspection." She held a tray of steaming food in her hand. "You haven't had breakfast yet, have you? Do you have the habit of eating breakfast?"
Mann took the tray:
"Thank you, I am a little hungry indeed."
Then he went back to the table with the tray, and Zasna naturally walked in and sat down opposite him, looking at Mann with curiosity.
Although she brought Mann back here, she hadn't really taken a good look at the human's appearance.
Although Zasna had seen many humans, Mann was slightly different. After examining him carefully, she noticed something very interesting.
That was that Mann looked more like a Titan than other ordinary-looking compatriots. Such handsome looks should be relatively rare among humans who have not mastered advanced flesh and blood technology.
This was probably why Yilo initially mistook him for a Titan who had strayed into this place when he first saw Mann, and never thought that he might be a human, because most humans' appearances were not ugly, but when they saw them, they would clearly perceive the word "mediocre."
In addition, she could also vaguely feel that this human opposite her was not simple. In fact, his reaction when he encountered the Titans could indeed show that he was not an ordinary person, and humans who could stray into this place were probably not simple either.
She watched Mann devour the food on the plate, smiled and said:
"I think you must want to talk about going back."
