I cultivate mushrooms in warhammer
#9 - Difficult exam
“Hiss——”
The airlock doors of the Kramm Cigarette Factory slid open, revealing its mysterious face to the students.
A figure walked over.
He wore a white hooded robe, his mouth and nose covered by a mechanical mask. His right eye had been modified, replaced by a prosthetic eye that flashed red.
“Wow, cool, he has implants.”
“His right eye is flashing red, is it scanning us?”
“I really want to get myself a bionic arm, but it’s too expensive. I couldn’t afford it even if I sold my dad.”
The boys whispered, excited.
Flesh is weak, but mechanics endure.
This saying was widely circulated among the boys, and now that they had finally seen the rumored implants, how could they not be excited?
“Silence, everyone.”
The mechanical mask of the person integrated a sound array device, and his voice was synthesized electronically, sounding like a robot.
He stood in front of the door, with his hands behind his back, stern and unsmiling:
“I am the security director of the Kramm Cigarette Factory. You can call me Borg.
“My master is the esteemed Mr. Kramm. He is the owner and controller of the Kramm Cigarette Factory, and the leader of the Kramm family.
“I hope that after entering this building, you will maintain a dignified and solemn demeanor from beginning to end, and do not act without authorization. Those who disobey will be handed over to the Hive City Legal Department by me and prosecuted for stealing confidential documents.”
Borg paused, his cold gaze sweeping over everyone:
“Do you all understand?”
The students nodded in unison, afraid to breathe loudly.
“Very good, follow me.”
Borg walked towards the door with his hands behind his back, his back straight.
The students looked at each other and formed three lines to enter the hall.
Li Nuo lingered at the end of the line, walking alongside Amy, and returned the book to her.
Amy looked very nervous.
After putting away the textbook, she didn't talk to Li Nuo, her eyes fixed on the road ahead.
The team moved forward in silence.
There was a strange smell in the corridor, a bit like disinfectant, and the air was colder than outside, giving people goosebumps.
The walls were made of sound-absorbing material, and the students' footsteps were completely absorbed, making the atmosphere of the team even more oppressive.
After a while, Borg stopped and made a gesture on the sensor door.
The door opened, revealing a room with tables and chairs, large enough for everyone to sit down.
“In five minutes, the data pads on the tables will display the test questions. The first test will last for one hour. Only those who pass can enter the second test. Find your own seats.”
The students entered one after another.
Li Nuo sat in a corner.
The data pad on the table was connected to cables, and there was a stylus next to it.
The screen showed a countdown, composed of green pixels.
Five minutes later, the countdown disappeared.
A series of multiple-choice questions appeared.
The green screen lit up the room, illuminating people's faces in a ghastly green, making one think this was a stock exchange.
Exclamations rose and fell in the room.
“God, is this still Low Gothic? How come I recognize every letter, but I can't understand a single word when they're put together?!”
“Damn it, it seems to be High Gothic! Didn't they say they would test Low Gothic?”
“This is High Gothic? It's terrifying, the words are longer than my index finger.”
Li Nuo glanced at the multiple-choice questions on the data pad, a little surprised, and subconsciously looked to his left.
Amy was sitting there.
Her expression was quite complex, both happy and fortunate.
Could it be that her dean father had leaked the answers to her?
It shouldn't be considered cheating.
Maybe she had learned High Gothic at home, which is why she had this expression.
“Keep quiet.” Borg stood by the door, his face grim:
“From now on, anyone who makes noise will be expelled from the building. The exam has already begun, answer the questions as soon as possible.”
The students answered with a stiff upper lip, most of them with mournful faces.
Li Nuo, however, didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Not because the questions were difficult, but because they were too simple.
As long as he wanted to, he could even pass the exam with full marks.
He had to thank his mastery of Latin before crossing over.
In order to submit articles to international journals, he used his spare time to learn Latin related to mycology.
Mastering the common roots, affixes, and grammar of English and Latin allows one to barely read short Latin articles.
The relationship between Low Gothic and High Gothic is also like this.
After having a sufficient vocabulary of Low Gothic, anyone can recognize the roots and affixes of High Gothic by "finding the similarities", and thus roughly understand the meaning of the questions.
In essence, this exam is testing the students' ability to adapt on the spot, and by the way, testing whether the foundation of Low Gothic is solid.
Li Nuo saw through the examiner's intention, recognized the question-setting ideas, and had a foundation in self-taught Latin, so this exam was a piece of cake for him.
Not getting full marks would be letting down his hard work studying before crossing over.
Start doing the questions.
Time passed quickly.
Some students sighed, while others seemed to have found the rules, and their eyes lit up with excitement.
Ten minutes, twenty minutes, thirty minutes.
The sighs on the scene became less, and more and more people grasped the key to solving the problem.
Forty minutes, fifty minutes.
Li Nuo wrote furiously, the tip of his pen moving non-stop.
But the damn test paper seemed to have no end, after finishing this page, there was always another page popping up.
If he couldn't finish all the test questions, how could he get full marks?
Write, write, write, write frantically, write tirelessly.
Li Nuo seemed to have returned to the years when he was preparing for the postgraduate entrance examination, completely immersed in the vast sea of questions.
What everyone failed to notice was that the examiner Borg's prosthetic eye was flashing rapidly.
A strange stance shot out from his eye, continuously enveloping the entire venue, making many candidates drowsy.
There was only one exception on the scene.
That was Li Nuo.
When others' wrists were sore, he was solving problems.
When others were moving their arms and shoulders, he was still solving problems.
When other candidates were yawning because of inexplicable sleepiness, Li Nuo was still solving problems.
The stance emitted by Borg did not hinder Li Nuo from answering the questions.
At this moment, the test-taking ability he had developed during his long academic career completely exploded.
No matter what the question was, he did not have the slightest pause, as smooth as flowing water.
Borg came behind him.
His prosthetic eye flashed, and invisible light repeatedly scanned Li Nuo. A faint electric current sounded continuously in Borg's body.
Li Nuo's every move and facial expression while doing the questions were collected by Borg's prosthetic eye, and then compiled into binary data by the intracranial implant, and transmitted to the building's monitoring room through the sound array system.
There, four figures were watching Li Nuo solve the problem.
