I have a wizarding world

#53 - Formal apprenticeship

Inside Meryl's laboratory.

"Child, put your hand on it."

Meryl reached out, holding a transparent glass bead in her hand.

Fang Cheng obediently stretched out his right hand and placed it on the glass bead. Immediately, the glass bead emitted red and black lights, which were very faint, as if they could extinguish at any moment.

"Fire and dark affinity," Meryl glanced over. "It's a pity you only have third-class wizard aptitude. Your path as a wizard will inevitably be very bumpy."

"Lord Meryl, I'm not afraid of bumps," Fang Cheng said quickly.

"Look at this child, still calling me Lord Meryl," Meryl laughed.

"Fang Cheng greets Teacher!" Fang Cheng was overjoyed and immediately changed his address.

Seeing this, Morton also laughed. It was evident that Meryl and his disciple had a very harmonious relationship.

"Alright, you haven't been back for a long time. Go back and take a look," Meryl glanced at Morton and waved his hand.

"Teacher, this disciple will take his leave," Morton bowed and exited the room.

Meryl retracted his gaze and looked at Fang Cheng: "Fang Cheng, this is the certificate for a formal apprentice of the Black and White Tower. Keep it safe."

As he spoke, Meryl took out a silver metal badge and handed it over. Fang Cheng quickly accepted it.

"Drip a drop of blood on it to leave a mental imprint. Now, the most important thing for you is to become a wizard apprentice as soon as possible." After speaking, Meryl waved his hand, and a row of test tubes appeared on the experimental table. Fang Cheng took a closer look and saw that they were indeed enlightenment potions.

"These enlightenment potions are enough for you to become a low-level apprentice. Later, go find Phil and have him take you to the library. It contains all the knowledge about wizard apprentices. You can browse it at will."

Meryl instructed, "Come find me again when you become a low-level apprentice." Meryl waved his hand.

"Yes, Teacher, this disciple will take his leave." Fang Cheng picked up the enlightenment potions on the experimental table, nodded, and slowly exited the room.

Fang Cheng gently closed the laboratory door and found that Morton was actually waiting for him outside.

"Senior Brother Morton."

"How is it? What good stuff did Teacher give you?" Morton smiled.

Fang Cheng raised his hand.

"Enlightenment potions, not bad. For you, becoming a wizard apprentice as soon as possible and learning knowledge of potion making are the most important," Morton smiled. "Let's go, I'll take you to find Phil."

"Thank you, Senior Brother." Fang Cheng naturally knew the difference between going to Phil himself and being taken there by Morton.

Although Phil was a high-level apprentice, with his age and aptitude, he basically had no hope of becoming a formal wizard. However, he was unwilling to give up and wanted to stay here in the hope of seeking a final opportunity.

This was also the true portrayal of all wizard apprentices in the Black and White Tower.

How many wizard apprentices are there in the Black and White Tower? Although there are no statistics, the number of new apprentices joining each year exceeds ten thousand. This number sounds exaggerated, but in reality, the Black and White Tower, as the ruler of the Eastern Sacred Empire and more than a dozen surrounding principalities, has hundreds of millions of subjects under its jurisdiction.

Recruiting only ten thousand people a year averages out to one in ten thousand.

But how many of these apprentices can become formal wizards? None!

In fact, the Black and White Tower has not had a new formal wizard born in decades! This is no longer a one in ten thousand probability, but one in hundreds of thousands, or even millions.

But the temptation to become a formal wizard is too great. Not to mention the power that is strong enough to make ordinary people despair, just the fact that formal wizards live for more than five hundred years is enough to drive countless people crazy.

The average lifespan of ordinary people in this world is very short, less than sixty years. Even wizard apprentices only live to be a hundred years old before turning into a pile of dust.

This is also why Morton is unwilling to accept disciples. For these wizard apprentices, time is an extremely precious thing. All their energy and time must be devoted to breaking through and becoming a formal wizard.

"This is your residence, Lord Fang Cheng."

Fang Cheng nodded.

He looked at the white hair on Phil's temples and suddenly felt that he was a little pitiful. He had devoted his entire life to pursuing the almost hopeless path of a wizard, and even when his life was about to end, he still couldn't let go of his obsession.

Is this the sorrow of ordinary aptitude? Through the contact just now, he knew that Phil, like him, had third-class wizard aptitude.

"The house next to Lord Meryl's residence is the library. It contains all kinds of knowledge for wizard apprentices in the Black and White Tower," Phil hesitated for a moment. "I suggest you take a look at the book 'Soul Theory' first."

After speaking, Phil looked at Fang Cheng with envy.

You must know that he had stayed in the Black and White Tower for almost his entire life, but if he wanted to go to the library to look up information, he had to spend points to exchange for time. As for spreading the knowledge in the library, no one dared to do so.

Since the Black and White Tower dared to openly display this knowledge about apprentices, it was not afraid of anyone leaking it.

"Phil, you don't need to bother here. I'll look for you if I need anything,"

Fang Cheng fiddled with his identity badge and said to Phil.

"Okay, Lord Fang Cheng." Phil bowed and took his leave.

Fang Cheng looked at Phil's back, shook his head, and turned to enter his courtyard.

Meryl's secret realm had a similar architectural style to Seven Star Island, both being courtyard styles. Fang Cheng looked at his courtyard, which was written with the Northern Continent common language number 2765.

The courtyard was not large, with a main house, two side halls, and a backyard, covering an area of about five hundred square meters.

Fang Cheng had seen no less than thousands of courtyards of all sizes in the city, and almost every courtyard was inhabited by a wizard apprentice.

That is to say, there are at least several thousand wizard apprentices on the 78th floor.

The entire Black and White Tower has 369 floors. Fang Cheng couldn't speculate about the higher floors, but those below the 78th floor should have no fewer than this number on each floor.

With this calculation, Fang Cheng finally knew why the Black and White Tower was called the ruler of the Eastern Sacred Empire and more than a dozen surrounding principalities.

Leaving aside the formal wizards, just these wizard apprentices alone could sweep through the Eastern Sacred Empire and more than a dozen surrounding principalities.

Fang Cheng had seen the strength of wizard apprentices before. Even with his current strength as a formal knight, he would still have no power to resist.

"Next, I'll sell these ten enlightenment potions first to exchange for enough magic stones, and then buy the materials for enlightenment potions."

Fang Cheng looked at the perfect-level enlightenment potion formula in the database and planned.
