Sixty-nine Dragons (2)

He knew that she had always been soft and gentle.

However, he thought it would be best if he maintained some distance from her, especially while she still had no feelings for him. That way, if something happened to him, she wouldn’t be too upset.

The dragon was entangled in a mix of emotions. He remained silent, unsure of what to say. Meanwhile, Mu Wanwan took the initiative, “Your Grace…”

She had originally intended to ask, “Do you mind sleeping with me tonight?”

But when the words left her mouth, it was, “We only have one bed. How about I go to the study to refine pills tonight?”

When Mu Wanwan finished speaking, she felt a little like banging her head against the wall, but she still awaited Mister Long’s response.

After hearing her words, a flicker of disappointment flashed in the depths of Mister Long’s dark eyes. His eyelashes fluttered like a fan as he blinked quickly, before he flattened his lips and remained silent.

Seeing him hang his head, Mu Wanwan thought to herself that as long as he said he didn’t mind, she wouldn’t leave. She held onto a glimmer of hope that he would stop her. She carefully considered her tone and said, “Mister Long, I’ll get going, then. Can you really manage on your own?”

Was he going to once again pretend to be strong and climb onto the bed with his crippled legs? Mu Wanwan felt a mixture of heartache and anger.

Mister Long’s heart pricked as he clenched and then released his fist. His voice was hoarse, cold as a wintry night’s snow, “No problem.”

Mu Wanwan looked at his drooping ears. Even though she was aware of his habit of saying one thing and meaning another, it still infuriated her.

She decided to ignore this dragon for a while. Just as well, she could do as planned and attempt to refine Grade 2 Spirit Returning Pills tonight.

Mu Wanwan looked at the drowsy Mengmeng and couldn’t bear to disturb the chubby chirp. Without hanging around, she left alone for the side hall.

Looking at the closed door, Mister Long blinked his slightly stinging eyes and reached out to touch the fox fur draped over his knees. He closed his eyes slowly——

This was good. If she were by his side, he was certain he wouldn’t be able to control himself. It was better this way.

Much better.

The oil lamp in the room gradually burned out, plunging the room into darkness. A sensation of prickling pain radiated from his legs, yet Mister Long seemed unaware. He sat quietly in his wheelchair, unmoving.

After about two hours, Mu Wanwan finally successfully concocted three Grade 2 Spirit Returning Pills. She rubbed her shoulders, glanced at the pitch-black sky outside, and couldn’t help but feel her heart soften a little.

She was really something else. Despite knowing how obstinate and awkward that dragon could be, she still had to give him a hard time.

Besides, why couldn’t she sleep on the bed? Could that dragon really do something to her? Mu Wanwan didn’t know where she got her confidence from, but after recalling how cautious he had been while pretending to be asleep and his actions in the afternoon, she found herself not being afraid at all.

So, she slowly returned to the room.

Pushing the door open gently, Mu Wanwan walked in cautiously. The room was pitch-black, and even though she had advanced in her cultivation, she could only make out vague shapes. However, the movements of a certain dragon were just too obvious.

He still maintained the same posture as when Mu Wanwan had left, but his ears suddenly perked up with a noticeable intensity.

Mu Wanwan’s lips curved into a smile. As she moved cautiously in the dark, her foot accidentally hit something she hadn’t noticed, and she let out a startled cry, almost stumbling over.

In the next moment, the room was suddenly bathed in a warm, gentle light as another oil lamp was lit. Mu Wanwan saw Mister Long’s slightly twitching finger.

He pursed his purplish lips, tugging at the fox fur, and his moist, long phoenix eyes looked at her with clear impatience, “How noisy.”

Mu Wanwan, “…”

She had already the glint of tears in the corners of his eyes. Could this dragon be any more obstinate?

An indescribable feeling welled up within her. Perhaps her significance in Mister Long’s heart was even greater than she had thought?

Mu Wanwan’s heart warmed. “I’m cold,” she said. She felt a bit awkward, but still managed to suppress her embarrassment and spoke words she’d never normally say, her tone stiff and not even close to sounding coquettish.

Mister Long feigned indifference as he glanced at her, his body exuding a chilly aura, the tip of his nose slightly red. Slowly, he turned his wheelchair, wearing an expression that seemed to say, “I really can’t do anything about you”. With a voice as crisp as a mountain spring yet tinged with restrained anticipation, he said, “Come in and sleep.”

The smile on Mu Wanwan’s lips was almost impossible to suppress. Her eyes curved as she walked over to his side, her tone joyful, “Your Grace, you’re really kind.”

Mister Long felt utterly despicable. Seeing her smile ignited a fire within the deepest part of his heart.

Clearly, his presence was a burden to her. Yet, when he saw her radiance, as if she were a bright star in his life, he couldn’t help but want to keep her by his side.

He wanted to be harsh to her to make her leave, but also wanted her to call him “husband” and smile at him.

He wanted to get well and leave her as soon as possible, but also wanted to tie her up and interrogate her about who gave her the pendant.

But he couldn’t bear to.

He just couldn’t bear to.

“Your Grace,” Mu Wanwan finished arranging the bed and turned to see the dragon who was wearing an expression that said, “I have no feelings”. Sighing inwardly, she asked, “Shall I help you onto the bed?”

She was beginning to push the boundaries, abandoning the formal form of address for “you”.

Mister Long showed no reaction to the change in address. He simply blinked his lashes and, driven by a peculiar sense of pride, was suddenly torn. He worried that his legs might dirty the bedding, but also didn’t want to waste spirit stones or embarrass himself. He glanced at the soft bed and replied in a cool tone, “I’m not sleepy.”

Mu Wanwan, “…”

This was pretty much identical to Little Mister Long’s “I’m not hungry.” However, she knew that once this dragon made up his mind, it was impossible to change it.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, she felt as though she had received a little sweetness from her awkward attempt at being coquettish just now, and said with a touch of playfulness, “But I can’t fall asleep with you sitting here.”
