I'm a monster in Demon King's Castle
#221 - Tongue
The newcomers were none other than the three skeleton heirs: Goldchain Godric, Velvet Robe Victor, and the head-hugging Thurnric—while the remaining people and horses were slaves they had scavenged from the Demon Market, conveniently used as "trucks."
Various fluids and solvents from the materials stalls, along with broken weapons from the armory, were all scavenged by the three skeleton heirs. They could have shrunk them for easy carrying, but they insisted on having the purchased slaves pull them, as if enjoying a clumsy comedy.
Tom, the blonde slave scholar, was also in the group, currently dragging a broken-down steam automaton with several other slave scholars. Like malnourished dockworkers, they stumbled every other step, moving slowly.
The half-dead Nightmare Succubus and the senile Mermaid also became burdens, carried or dragged by the slave scholars, mixed into the entire group and struggling to move under the gaze of the three skeletons.
"This isn't fun, not fun at all," Thurnric's skull head rattled. "We should have hired a carriage from the Demon Market to go straight back to the city..."
"I won't. I didn't get anything tonight, so I can only find a show to watch?" The speaker was Velvet Robe Victor—this skeleton originally bid on a magic-powered motorcycle, but it was snatched away by Lee Read, so he could only find amusement elsewhere.
"Right, I heard there will be human and demon bandits robbing people here on Black Slope, that must be fun." Goldchain Godric also stood on Victor's side. "It's just ahead, looking forward to it."
"Bite my bony butt… what if we get robbed too?" Thurnric hugged his head tighter.
"Just have Uncle bring money to ransom us?" Goldchain Godric looked fearless. "It's okay, I bought so much junk precisely to let them rob it for fun, right? Besides, no one with any sense would dare to attack the three of us, right? Robbing this junk is enough..."
"You're wrong, a lot of demons don't have eyes," Thurnric was more pessimistic, and more objective.
Soon after, the three skeleton heirs witnessed just how crazy the poor ghosts on Black Slope were—starving for a night, they might not even care about the Demon King himself. Before the prey reached the crossroads, they launched their attack.
Leading the charge were the Minotaur and Demon Chef, who had been hiding for a long time—they didn't have the patience of the Gnolls, nor the hesitation of humans. The moment Tom dragged the steam automaton into attack range, they rushed out from under the slope, heading straight for the Nightmare Succubus and Mermaid on the dirt road.
They thought these two were the most valuable and delicious.
However, before the Minotaur reached the dirt road, the skeleton cannon fodder blocked their path, driven by someone, attacking the demons and the three skeletons on the slope, killing anyone they saw.
The Death Sea Ranger also formed an alliance with the humans, and upon seeing the demons attack, they weren't willing to fall behind. Amidst the shouts, a rain of arrows fell from the sky, casting a shadow over the crossroads.
Unfortunately, the Gnoll tricksters had prepared a long script, but before they could perform it, it was disrupted by the impatient humans and demons, forcing them to lurk on the periphery with the hunters, looking for opportunities to hunt.
In the rush, the battle broke out in full swing; Lee Read also stirred his octopus tentacles, gradually approaching the Illusion Gecko's encirclement.
The moment the Minotaur appeared, breathing heavily, the blonde Tom lost all will to survive, kneeling blankly on the ground, not understanding what he was doing—he had barely survived being killed by the Brain Spirit and the Mini Minis, spending nearly a month hiding in the library, crossing the cesspool to reach the Demon Market… and now he had reached this point?
When he first realized he was about to be sold back to Demon King City, Tom was desperate, even hoping something would happen on the way, that a hero would kill the three skeletons and rescue him.
But he didn't expect a hero to come, but a swarm of locust-like thieves.
Watching the arrows raining down, the muscle-bursting Minotaur, and the cackling skeleton soldiers… Tom grasped a sharp iron plate protruding from the steam automaton's arm and swiped it across his neck.
【This hopeless world… I choose to leave…】
Lee Read had been paying attention to the battle on the slope with his mind. Hearing Tom's inner voice at this moment, he suddenly thought of something—when you don't want to live anymore, that life becomes very useful.
"Save him…" Lee Read had just transmitted the thought when Shadow suddenly stretched out, stuffing Tom into the shadow space, along with the surviving slave scholars.
"What's wrong with you?" Lee Read didn't expect Shadow to be so prepared.
"Aren't these all the library's dishes? You don't want them?" Shadow instantly transformed into writing. "What about the others, the Mermaid or something, should I care?"
"No, the others are rotten, not tasty." Seeing the battlefield blooming everywhere, Lee Read signaled Shadow to quickly retreat—there were still dozens of Illusion Geckos waiting for him to collect.
When Shadow returned, the battle was at its fiercest—Goldchain Godric cackled loudly, taking off the gold chain around his neck and smashing the approaching Minotaur into a pile of gold sand; Velvet Robe Victor simply shrunk into his velvet robe, occasionally opening it to engulf a human or demon, squeezing them into a pool of blood.
Even Thurnric unleashed his power, throwing his skull, which suddenly enlarged, knocking down the rain of arrows while constantly crushing humans, Gnolls, or Minotaurs into meat pies.
The Demon Chef, having eaten his fill, rolled down the hillside with a body full of wounds, looking towards Lee Read, seeing a giant, ugly man slapping trees and bushes into gravel as if swatting flies, seemingly smelling the dissipated magic of the Illusion Geckos.
It was at this moment that the geckos finally realized they had been completely exposed, and hiding was no longer an option. A dozen tongues probed out from all directions, all reaching towards the ugly man!
Dead trees stretched out their tongues, bushes stretched out their tongues, rocks stretched out their tongues… even a section of the Black Slope's crossroads stretched out its tongue; the human alliance, halfway through their retreat, saw the inexplicably bizarre scene and fled in terror.
"Give me… drop!" Lee Read's body suddenly shrunk, dodging the dozen tongues, while tearing open his scalp, a dozen petrifying rays… accurately shot out in reverse!
