I'm a monster in Demon King's Castle

#685 - It's good if you don't die

After waking up in this body, Li Yue rarely dreamed. He initially thought it was just because he was too exhausted every time he slept, his brain completely unable to function.

But clearly, that wasn't the case.

It was when Li Yue saw a succubus-like woman in a dream that he confirmed it was indeed a dream.

This woman was very enthusiastic at first, but quickly lost interest in Li Yue, muttering "Fifth Library," and dragging him to a tavern before leaving.

In the tavern, there were many bald brains, pouring wine into the brain grooves.

Li Yue also became one of them, wondering if taking a bath in wine would make him drunk.

These should all be Brain Spirits—oddly enough, after realizing it was a dream, Li Yue still had room to think.

"How many books did you translate today?" a Brain Spirit asked.

"Who still translates books? We're going to war!" another Brain Spirit replied.

"Where is our master? Isn't he giving us work anymore?" the first Brain Spirit asked again.

In that instant, all the Brain Spirits in the tavern pointed the largest brain groove separating their left and right hemispheres at Li Yue, staring at him uncomfortably.

"Master has hidden himself... the library probably belongs to the Grand Altar now..." the Brain Spirits chanted together, shaking their brains.

It was also at this moment that Li Yue realized that none of the brains were speaking; everyone was communicating telepathically.

"If it weren't for Lord Nolemore, we would all have to put on armor and go to battle," another Brain Spirit grumbled.

"You should be glad you're a Brain Spirit, not a Mini-Me, otherwise you'd have to run to the furnace like them to forge equipment for the skeletons..."

"You don't want to participate in the war, I don't want to participate in the war, but the Four Knights really want to go to the battlefield!" another Brain Spirit, newly arrived at the tavern, used its mind to control the wine, pointing to four Brain Spirits at a table in the distance.

Those four Brain Spirits had different things stuck in their brain grooves; the leader had a door, and the other three had an electric branch, a flame, and a ray of moonlight, respectively.

"Bite my brain's butt... they shouldn't continue to live in the library, but should live in the arena, and together with Harry, Legis, and Lord Akka, become the main force of the attack."

"What the hell do you know? The Four Knights are so powerful that Lord Nolemore doesn't even want them to participate in this war. It seems we're bound to win."

"What's the use of winning? Will the library get better?"

"I remember it used to be better, but now... it's just so-so."

"It's good to be alive!"

"Why is Lord Nolemore so good to us?" a Brain Spirit asked.

"He doesn't want us to die, right? He probably needs us to record his heroic deeds in the books of the library..."

"Record? Isn't that what Tom is supposed to do?" The Brain Spirits seemed to have a shared memory, but Li Yue didn't know about it.

"Tom? He locks himself in the Grand Library every day, doing nothing, constantly searching for records, and comparing various creations with a copper spoon, as if he can find out something."

"I heard he really wants to participate in the Bard's Assembly! He says there are answers there!"

"What's the use of bards... they only sing stories they've made up."

"You don't understand. Sometimes, if they make it up and no one objects, it becomes real."

"Then tell him to make up who will take down Riftgold Mountain?"

"Are you stupid? It hasn't even started yet. What's the use of them making it up? You'll only know after it's over..."

Li Yue inexplicably listened to them for a long time, about the library, the arena, and many vague, unfamiliar, yet somewhat familiar names.

And this dream of the Brain Spirits was just a node in the vast network of countless dreams, not attracting any more attention.

Inside a giant bone chariot, in a magnificent bone hall, Redcoat, Damen Benben, and Winnie were stroking the hair of a Nightmare Succubus, observing the dreams of some humans.

Nolemore and Spader were standing aside in a daze, as if resting.

"Bao'er is very cooperative, not bad, even helping us sort out the dreams, but unfortunately, Nate Mae isn't playing with us anymore," Damen Benben always thought of a Nightmare Succubus from the closed-door training.

"Focus on watching, it's best to find the dreams of some key personnel." The red-haired Winnie interrupted Damen Benben's complaints, forcing the Chain Demon to focus on the dreams themselves.

"It's best to be a priest of the New Church, if not, a noble or a hero will barely suffice..." Winnie was fully invested.

At this moment, the Heartless Demoness had found her own heart, which was the lump that Lulu Feifei had won in Meria Port—at the end of that war, that withered heart was just thrown on the ground.

Winnie didn't even think, she picked it up and stuffed it into her chest.

So her upper body became even more bulging.

"The priests will definitely have some way to shield their dreams, most nobles are the same, it's more likely to invade the hero's dream." Redcoat tried to narrow the scope for Damen Benben and Winnie.

"What are we looking for?" Damen Benben randomly looked through the interesting dreams, with no intention of extracting information from them.

As a member of the Vault, Damen Benben didn't pay much attention to the war situation. Anyway, no matter what happened, the Grand Altar would take back what the Vault should take.

"Look for the deployment of the Imperial army, the flow of refugees, and information about the Bard's Assembly..." Redcoat was very patient, repeatedly explaining to Damen Benben.

"Finding the army is for fighting, finding the refugees is for absorbing faith, so what's the point of finding the Bard's Assembly?" Knowing is knowing, Damen Benben didn't want to find it.

"I don't know either, Nolemore and Spader want to find it." Redcoat pointed to the Shadow Demon and Snail behind him.

"Hehe, you two idiots, you don't even know what you're doing, I feel sorry for you." Damen Benben turned around and mocked the Shadow Demon and Snail.

Nolemore and Spader seemed to be used to it and didn't react at all.

"Focus on the first two! If we win, we'll be Quasi-Demon Lords." Winnie smiled.

"Don't rush, I want to absorb more faith, you want to absorb the knowledge of the Old Church... we have to fight to the Holy City at least to complete our promotion ceremony." Redcoat reassured Winnie, "Before that, collecting more information won't hurt."

"I've seen in several dreams... the Empire's Creation Department seems to have new creations." Redcoat scratched his skull eye socket.

"Of course there must be new creations, otherwise how can we beat our Flesh Golems?" Winnie saw the Corpse Demon standing as high as a mountain outside through the cracks of the bone hall.

"Thank you for your knowledge, which has expanded our combat power." Redcoat was quite polite to Winnie, and then continued to put his energy into the information related to the Bard's Assembly.

"Tonight is the Bard's Assembly, if we really can't find any relevant information, we can only send someone to..."

"I'll go." Nolemore and Spader said together.

"Let me think about it." Redcoat raised his hand, not directly agreeing to the two demons' request.

This scene amused Damen Benben: "Hehe, you're acting so well."

"Acting like what?" Redcoat asked.

"Like the Red-Robed Pope, like the Old Goat." Damen Benben swung his chains.

"Do you really think he will give you a chance to advance?"
