One Piece of Song Dynasty

Chapter 11 Building a House

"What do you think after hearing this allusion?" The people below were silent. .1kanshu

"Why don't you say anything? If you don't tell me, this allusion tells us the importance of discipline. Throughout the ages, any powerful army has strict discipline. No matter how powerful a person's martial arts is, he can't withstand a team. What does team fighting rely on? It relies on discipline. A loosely disciplined team can never beat a strictly disciplined team. A loosely disciplined team is just a piece of scattered sand fighting on its own, while a strictly disciplined team is a whole, and the whole is always better than a disciplined team. Individuals are strong, so the strength of the army not only relies on force, but also strict discipline. So don't underestimate a small folded quilt. This is cultivating your discipline. Some of you must have questions in your mind. Why do I talk about the army? Things, let me tell you, I am training you as soldiers; some of you must be thinking that discipline has anything to do with literacy. I tell you that discipline cannot just rely on words. You still have to rely on words to tell how much you can understand. Write it down in black and white. I gave you my handwritten nursing training regulations some time ago. How many of you can understand it? How many words can you recognize? So learning to read can help you understand the content faster, and it can also be used on the battlefield. You can quickly understand the general's orders, and when you go out and see the announcements posted by the government, you can also quickly understand what is written in the announcements so that you will not be deceived by those who are interested. Why do officials dare to deceive the common people? It is because of the common people. Illiterate people don’t understand anything and can only listen to them; and why the literati looked down on you vulgar warriors in the Song Dynasty because you are illiterate and uneducated; finally, don’t think that you are doing all this for me. It's for your own good. There are many people outside who want to learn to read, but no one has taught them. Although you have slave status, I don't treat you as slaves. To be fair, the treatment I give you is still very good. Have you seen it? Which master would pay his slaves so much monthly wages, and provide them with good food and housing? I also said that if you do well in the future, you can get married and have children. I treat you as human beings. You can't help yourself. Treat yourself as a human being.”

"Master, we were wrong. We must train well according to the rules and learn to read and write with Wang Xiucai." Everyone said in unison.

"Okay, there's not much else to say. If you work hard from now on, I will give you the treatment you deserve. If anyone doesn't work hard again, I will definitely punish you heavily."

"Master, what you said is very good. I will definitely teach them how to read." Wang Xiucai said.

"Zhang Hu, during the expansion of the mansion, I will learn martial arts from you and supervise your training."

"Master, I understand."

After arranging the family members, the housekeeper went to Hui'an, and the construction and expansion of the mansion began. This was the first time I built a house in the Song Dynasty. The development of commerce and the progress of science and technology in the Song Dynasty made the construction industry of the Song Dynasty make great progress. During the Northern Song Dynasty, a masterpiece on the construction industry called "Building Methods" was produced. "Building Methods" was compiled in the Xining period (1068-1077), written in the third year of Yuanfu (1100), and published in the second year of Song Chongning. (1103), compiled by Li Jie on the basis of the Wooden Classics written by Yu Hao, a craftsman from Zhejiang Province Technical books mark that ancient Chinese architecture has developed to a higher stage. This book has a profound impact on later generations of construction projects. For example, the regulations on city building in the Yuan Dynasty's water conservancy engineering technology are almost identical to the regulations in "Building Fa Shi". The "Building Code" of the Ming Dynasty also absorbed many of its contents. In the "Engineering Practice Regulations" of the Ministry of Industry of the Qing Dynasty promulgated in the twelfth year of Yongzheng (1734 AD), the use of "Doukou" as the model was based on the "Building Code". It was developed from the modular system of "Cai". During the Song Dynasty, the building materials were mainly wood and bricks. Most of the residential buildings in the Song Dynasty faced south, with windows opening in the north, east and west directions. This kind of house structure can generally ensure that people stay warm in winter and cool in summer. The home life is more comfortable. From the perspective of the location of the house, the height of the terrain, the orientation and orientation of the house are also important. This is not only the needs of people's lives, but also an important part of the folk customs and customs of the Song Dynasty. The orientation of the houses is very particular. The houses are all high in the northwest and low in the northeast. After the main body of the house was built, the Song people had the habit of so-called upper beams. The upper beams have a relatively fixed format. The first part is about the building itself and its related situations. The second part is a song sung by the construction craftsmen, which usually includes six different sections of words and phrases: east, west, south, north, up and down. For example, "Erlang Wei, throwing Liangdong, Sangjing Chaimen among the green rocks" There are clouds and trees overlapping the mountains, birds singing and hundreds of flowers blowing in the wind. The son is majestic, throwing beams to the west, the peaches and plums are newly planted, and the end of the smoke dock passes through the thin ridge, and there are moves deep in the white clouds." This is a very typical song of the Song Dynasty. Liang Wen, many of the Shang Liang Wen that have been handed down do not have the word Erlangwei in each paragraph. They refer directly to a certain direction of Liang, which is roughly omitted. The above verses are all from Cheng Ju's poems written for his mountain residence, and there should be other characters. It has a specific connotation. It is estimated that when folk houses were built, they were mostly words passed down from masters and apprentices by craftsmen, which could be sung and rhymed, similar to labor chants; since the beams are the support of the house and play a decisive role in the construction, the upper beams are used in the construction. Particular attention is paid to building construction. The last part of the text on the beam is a word of blessing. I hope that after the beam is raised, the hometown will be flawless, have a good harvest, the elderly and the young will be reunited, and they will say the words of inanimate together, and they will bow down and live in peace forever. Those who work hard will see peace again and live a long life together. There are many such words in the collections of scholar-bureaucrats in the Song Dynasty. Although the words and sentences are different, their essence and purpose are the same.

In addition to looking at the expanded mansion every day, I just follow my own martial arts routine. Since I have no foundation, I can only practice from scratch, practicing basic movements such as the horse stance. Practicing martial arts is really painful, but I can't stop practicing. In the future, I won’t even have the ability to defend myself. It’s impossible to have someone guarding me all the time. I still have to rely on myself. However, the development of martial arts during the Song Dynasty was still good. Although the Song Dynasty was weak in external military affairs, after all, the land area was there. Compared with the powerful Tang Dynasty, it was far behind. In the end, the Song Dynasty rarely opened up territories. The Song Dynasty was basically the target of bullying in the eyes of foreigners. During the Song Shenzong period, Wang Shao expanded Tuhehuang for more than miles, but the martial spirit among the people of the Song Dynasty was still very strong.
