Hogwarts White Knight
Chapter 3 Curiosity Kills the Cat
"Mr. Dumbledore... this joke is not funny, at least it is definitely not 1258."
Gawain seemed to feel a line of sweat dripping from his cheeks, and tried his best to speak calmly.
"Oh? Don't you want to refute the other parts?"
Dumbledore asked with interest, his voice sounded cheerful but very friendly.
"Everything in the past is a prologue. At least in my impression, Shakespeare was not born in 1258."
Gawain carefully considered his answer. Although it was a joke, he felt that the old man in front of him was definitely not as simple as he seemed.
At least he didn't know how the other party did it, but he could guess what he was thinking.
"Stormy?
In fact, there is another sentence that I like better.
Love all, trust a few, hurt no one. "
Dumbledore smiled, stood up, waved his wooden staff, and a golden high-backed chair appeared opposite his table, which was undoubtedly prepared for Gawain.
"Macbeth?"
Gawain recognized that the sentence quoted by the other party also came from Shakespeare's famous tragedy. But he didn't respond. Instead, he walked over and sat down.
At this time, he discovered that the height of the chair was just designed for him. When he sat upright and looked straight, he happened to be at the same level as Dumbledore.
"Let me see, a pot of tea and some snacks?"
Seeing Gawain sitting on the chair, Dumbledore said lightly. The wooden staff in his hand drew an arc in the air.
As if squeezed out of the air, a large silver tray suddenly appeared on the table.
On the tray is a white porcelain pot, several small pink tea cups, and a small bowl placed between the two of them.
The bowl contained many strange candies, which Gawain had never seen before.
The teapot was steaming.
Even without an open flame.
"Cook yourself?"
For some reason, such an idea suddenly flashed through Gawain's mind.
"Please forgive the prank of an old man, because this is all he has to entertain himself."
Noticing Gawain sitting up straighter, Dumbledore sighed softly.
"Mr. Dumbledore, where exactly is this place? Why did you bring me here?"
Gawain said calmly that he felt like he had discovered a new and incredible world.
"Oh? Don't you suspect that you are hallucinating or being kidnapped?"
Dumbledore's beard trembled and he said with a smile.
"I can't think of any benefit from your kidnapping me. As for it being in a dream or hallucination, I've already tried it."
Spreading his right hand to show Dumbledore, Gawain replied. In the palm of his right hand, there were two small shallow cuts, with blood streaks left inside.
When he was led by Madam Pomfrey and when he entered this office, he pricked his palms hard with his nails.
Being able to feel pain and having an awareness of "self".
"Well, I think you will need this wound later." Dumbledore shook his head. He rarely saw such a calm Muggle student.
Gawain reminded him of another young man.
The same talent.
"I think I should reintroduce myself.
sugar? milk? "
Dumbledore flicked his wand, and the teapot eagerly poured its contents into the pink porcelain cup. Then, without waiting for Gawain's reply, a spoonful of sugar and two spoons of milk were added.
Exactly the proportions Gawain wanted.
"I am Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and you, dear Mr. Gawain White, have been admitted as a new student at the school and have been admitted to the school."
Dumbledore straightened up and said seriously.
"Professor McGonagall was originally supposed to bring you this letter yesterday, but because of your... special encounter, in order to avoid accidents and embarrassment, she did not send you to St. Mungo's, but brought you back to the school."
The old man took out a brown parchment envelope from under the table and handed it to Gawain across the table. After hearing what happened yesterday, Gawain felt sincerely worried, but he still tried his best to restrain his emotions and looked at the envelope.
"Mr Gawain White, No. 12, Tulip Road, Little Whinging, Surrey."
The envelope was written in emerald green ink and had a shield-shaped logo painted on it. Although it is called a shield, this coat of arms actually consists of four parts, namely red, green, brown, and blue.
"Lions, eagles, badgers, and... snakes?"
Gawain guessed, and with the encouragement from Dumbledore's eyes, he took out the letter and read it out.
Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
(President of the International Magic Federation, President of the Wizarding Association, First Class Wizard of the Order of Merlin)
When he read this, Dumbledore showed a sly smile, seeming to say "I didn't expect that?"
Dear Mr. White:
We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Attached is a list of required books and equipment. The semester is scheduled to begin on September st. We will be waiting for your owl to bring your reply before July st.
Sincerely Vice Principal (Female) Minerva McGonagall
After finishing reading, Gawain read the contents of the letter two or three times to make sure that he had no misunderstandings in words or language, and then he raised his head.
"So, Hogwarts is a magic school?"
Dumbledore nodded easily.
"Can I learn to use magic here? To do things like you?"
Dumbledore still nodded relaxedly.
"Will the school's diploma be recognized by the university? What if I want to apply to law school after graduation?"
Dumbledore's expression suddenly froze, and the corners of his mouth twitched. Seeing his expression, Gawain understood something in his heart.
"If the school does not recognize it, will my future job be guaranteed? I mean, to the level of an ordinary trial lawyer, or even worse, to the level of a case lawyer."
Gawain asked cautiously, even slightly lowering his expectations.
Although his parents' job allowed him to live a relatively comfortable life even without a decent income, he was not prepared to rely entirely on Colin and Elsa, but had his own plan.
"Well... students will have the opportunity to work in the Ministry of Magic after graduation. In terms of income..."
Dumbledore suddenly hesitated as he spoke. He knew Gawain's expectations, and he also knew that even the relatively highest-paid Auror in the Ministry of Magic could not reach the income of even a lawyer for the things Gawain was referring to. If converted into pounds .
"So you want me to give up my qualifications for admission to one of the best aristocratic middle schools in the UK and choose Hogwarts, a middle school where my future job and income are not guaranteed?"
Gawain sighed and asked. He did not deny that he was very curious about the magical world.
But curiosity kills the cat.
Dumbledore's blue eyes stared at Gawain in front of him. He hesitated for a moment as to what kind of reason he should find to deceive him. Although Hogwarts is a magical school, admission is not compulsory.
Gawain, holding the tea cup in his hand, also fell into silence.
"I agree."
After a moment, contrary to Dumbledore's expectations, Gawain nodded.
