Hogwarts Melting Ice Journey
Chapter 5 An ordinary sorting ceremony (1)
As usual, Hagrid is usually responsible for welcoming the first-year students. Although this year's situation is a bit special, this routine has been maintained.
After all, not many professors have the patience to take a boat across the lake with a bunch of little devils year after year, so this important task should be left to the key keeper, Mr. Rubeus Hagrid.
"First-year students, all first-year students, come to me." Hagrid held a lamp and tried to gather the freshmen. "Little ones, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am Rubeus Hagrid, the keeper of the keys to Hogwarts, and I will be responsible for taking you to Hogwarts."
"Come on, follow me. Are there any freshmen? Watch your step. Okay, freshmen, come with me."
They followed Hagrid down a steep and narrow path, slipping and stumbling.
The only light source was the lamp held by Hagrid, so they had to be careful, otherwise they would set a record for the fastest time to enter the school hospital.
"Turning this corner, you will soon see Hogwarts for the first time." Hagrid called back. Then there was a loud "oh" and a black lake suddenly opened at the end of the narrow path. On the high hillside on the other side of the lake stands a majestic castle with towering spiers and windows twinkling under the stars.
"No more than four people per boat," Hagrid said loudly, pointing to a group of small boats moored on the shore.
The three of Stephen got on a boat first, but one girl missed the opportunity to get on the boat with other girls because she was a little slow, and had to follow them.
"Hello, Penny Haywood." The girl greeted.
"Stephen Tony" "Rowan Kenner" "I am..." Ben was stuck. He was already timid, and now he couldn't even speak when he saw a girl.
"He's Copper." Stephen helped him complete what he wanted to say.
"Your name is Stephen Tony. Then you should know Jacob Tony." Penny was a little surprised. She didn't expect that she was on a pirate ship.
"He's my brother."
"Oh, I think I got on the wrong ship. Maybe I can get off in time." Penny showed a slightly frightened expression, but because it was dark, no one could see clearly.
Ben, on the other hand, looked confused. He didn't know anything about the magical world before he came, so he had no idea what they were talking about.
"Miss Heywood, Stephen and his brother are not the same person." Rowan was a little angry. He didn't expect Penny to say that.
"Of course, but"
"Are you all on board?" Hagrid shouted, interrupting what Petunia was about to say. "That's good to move on." A group of small boats immediately sailed forward across the mirror-like lake.
Penny didn't say anything after being interrupted. And because of the unfriendly chat just now, Stephen and Rowan didn't say anything, but judging from Rowan's expression, he was still very angry. As for Ben, let him continue to be confused.
The boat took them through the ivy curtain that covered the cliff face to the secluded open entrance. They followed a dark tunnel that seemed to lead beneath the castle, and finally arrived at a place that resembled an underground dock, and then climbed up onto a ground of gravel and pebbles.
A tall black-haired witch wearing emerald green robes stood in front of the door.
"This should be Professor McGonagall." Stephen compared the person in front of him with the person in his impression. It was obvious that the current one was younger.
"First year, Professor McGonagall," Hagrid said.
"Thank you, Hagrid. Leave it to me to pick you up when you get here." McGonagall turned to the new students, "Welcome to Hogwarts. The opening banquet is about to begin, but before you go to the dining hall, First of all, you all need to decide which house you will enter. Sorting into a house is a very important ceremony, because while you are at school, the house is like your home at Hogwarts. You will be with other students in the house We attend classes, stay together in the college’s dormitories, and spend our free time together in the college’s common room.”
Not sure if these words were spoken ten years ago, Stephen shrugged and followed the crowd towards the hall. Stephen was suddenly stunned for a moment. He remembered that many fanfics mentioned that the Sorting Hat had magic similar to Legilimency.
"Maybe I'm going to be exposed again," he complained in his mind, "I may be the worst time traveler in this series. Forget it, do whatever you want, anyway, it's not bad this time." He shook his head and continued to move forward.
The ghost scare part of the repertoire seemed to have been forgotten, and I don’t know why, but the ghosts didn’t come out anyway. Stephen asked Rowan in a low voice, and the answer he got was: "Stephen, what are you talking about? Why haven't I seen this link in any books?"
A group of people entered the hall, and there were no surprises this time. Stars twinkled on the velvety black ceiling. New students are always attracted by this strange magic.
The ghosts who had not appeared before were waiting for the new students in the hall together with the professors.
Stephen asked Rowan about the ceiling out of temptation, but Rowan said that there was only one record in the school history that a ceiling studded with stars is always so magical, as if someone moved the sky to the ceiling.
Rowan also told Stephen the page number so that he could verify for himself whether this was the case.
Professor McGonagall gently placed a four-legged stool in front of the first-year students, and placed a pointed wizard's hat on the stool.
This time the repertoire was indeed retained. The Sorting Hat used its unique voice to sing a song of its own composition while all the freshmen were stunned.
"Stephen, where do you think you will be assigned?" Rowan asked quietly.
"I think it's best to be with you. Don't we still need to study the notes? It will be much more convenient if we are in the same hospital."
"What I want to go to most is Ravenclaw. I heard that there are many books in the Ravenclaw common room. I think if I can, my biggest wish is to drown in a sea of books."
"Rowan, you're a perfect match for Ravenclaw, you'll get there."
"Whoever's name I call now will put on his hat, sit on the stool, and wait for the sorting." The Sorting Hat finally ended his concert. Professor McGonagall, who was waiting aside, picked up the list and said, "Rodiana"
The stubborn Hannah will have to wait for another ten years, Stephen smiled.
A girl with long brown hair hurriedly came out of the queue and successfully bumped into many people. Everywhere she went was filled with complaints. She sat down, put on her hat, and after a moment's pause "Gryffindor" the hat called.
A cheer erupted from the table on the far left, the Gryffindor cubs expressing their enthusiasm in various loud ways.
"Jones Dylan" A boy with an afro walked up. He obviously learned Rodiana's lesson and did not bump into the people he passed.
The people at the table to the right of "Hufflepuff" began to applaud, and the ghost of the fat monk smiled and waved to him.
The sorting hat was sorted quickly, so the list was read quickly.
"Petunia Haywood" "A kind and enthusiastic little fellow, a Hufflepuff of course"
"Rowan Kenna" "Ravenclaw"
Rowan smiled happily, because he really wanted to go to Ravenclaw, and he waved to Stephen when he came down. Then he shook hands with the Ravenclaw seniors one by one.
“Bencopper”
When Ben heard Professor McGonagall read his name, not only did he not go out, but he stepped back. He thought the talking hat was scary and dangerous to him.
"Damn it, you stepped on my foot," the short-haired boy standing behind Ben complained.
"Oh, I'm very sorry, I didn't mean to do it." Ben was very nervous and hurriedly apologized to the boy whose foot he stepped on.
"Copper" Professor McGonagall called again, "Freshmen whose names are read, come up quickly."
Ben gritted his teeth, hurriedly rushed up, sat upright on the chair, and held the Sorting Hat on his head with both hands, as if he was ready to let it leave his head at any time.
"Well, an interesting new student." He heard a small voice in his ear say, "You lack courage now, don't you? But I think you won't always lack it. I can see this in you. Potential. I think going to Gryffindor will help you find it."
"You mean Gryffindor" Ben repeated.
"That's right, Gryffindor." The Sorting Hat loudly shouted the name of the house, and the Gryffindor table once again burst into warm welcome.
