Laura's Beautiful Journey

Chapter 68 Breaking the Door

Laura rushed to the vicinity of the village as quickly as possible, but after many attempts, she still failed to regain communication with Sophia. She could only reduce her speed and fly south while keeping the call.

Laura, who was wondering why there were no people anywhere, suddenly heard the sound of gunshots. Following the sound, she found a faint light of fire under the cliff not far away. She quickly stopped and turned in the air and rushed in that direction.

Back to ten minutes ago, Sophia, who was hiding in the cave, looked helplessly at the communicator in her hand that only had a sizzling sound. She didn't know how to repair this thing.

"Boom!"

A loud bang from the door interrupted her thoughts.

"Boom!"

Everyone in the cave felt that the ground beneath their feet was shaking, and a lot of dust was sprinkled from the top of the cave.

Several villagers looked worriedly at the giant trees used as supports, which were making creaking sounds.

"Boom!"

Sophia picked up the child who was knocked to the ground beside her, walked deeper into the cave, and handed it over to an old woman.

"Boom!"

"Youth Guards, get ready for battle!"

The fourth loud bang was followed by Sophia's firm voice. I saw her attaching a special poisonous arrow and walking towards the entrance of the cave with a dozen heavily armed team members.

"Boom!"

The ground shook again, but fortunately the thick wooden door at the entrance of the cave was still strong, which made the escort team who arrived breathed a sigh of relief.

Taking advantage of the fact that the current situation was not serious, Sophia took out her communicator and tried to contact Laura, but there was still only noise coming from inside.

The arrows and muzzles of the guns in the team members' hands were pointed at the hole. Their hands were shaking for the first time in actual combat. They didn't know whether it was because of fear, excitement, or both.

Time passed by minute by minute, but there was no more frightening crashing sound from the wooden door.

A young man held the Bobosha in his hand and cautiously said:

"You said...have the guys outside given up?"

Sophia raised her index finger and said "Shh", then stood on tiptoes and moved towards the wooden door step by step.

She felt that as she got closer to the cave entrance, the temperature around her seemed to be getting higher and higher, and she even started to sweat.

You must know that this is Siberia where there is heavy snow. The average outdoor temperature in winter ranges from 0 degrees to minus 50 degrees. Logically speaking, even in a relatively constant temperature in the hiding cave, it is only about 1c~2c.

When Sophia finally came to the door, she found small wisps of white smoke coming out of the wooden door, and at the same time she also smelled a hint of burning wood.

The bastards outside are setting the door on fire!

The thought that crossed her mind made her frightened and angry.

"Sasha! You go in immediately to find old Andre! Lead the women and children from the path to the underground to hide! The rest of the people, each take a container to the water tank to get water and come back to cool the door!"

The young man holding Bobosha was stunned for a moment before replying:

"Yes...but that trail leads to the ruins of the old city. Besides, I don't know how to get there!"

Sophia took off a steel helmet from the wall, pulled him and walked inside.

"Go quickly! Uncle Andre knows the route. If it's later, it'll be too late!"

Sasha could only grit his teeth and nodded, then quickly ran towards the bottom of the cave.

Soon, he found Andre and explained what Sophia meant. The skinny old man with a broken hand looked solemn.

"Are we going to reach this point so soon...Okay, I'll lead the way."

While talking, the old man picked up a torch with his remaining left hand, walked to a stone wall and pulled a certain switch.

"Everyone! You must follow my footsteps later, try not to make any noise on the way, and most importantly, don't fall behind!"

After finishing speaking, he took the lead and walked into the passage after the stone door was moved.

At this time, the situation at the entrance of the cave was very bad. They had too few people and all they had were steel helmets and iron basins. The water poured on the wooden door was not enough to lower it below the ignition point.

Sophia saw that the wooden door had been burned through in many places, and everyone was choked by the billowing smoke and coughed non-stop.

"Stop! Stop everyone! Come inside with me!"

She poured the remaining water in the helmet onto a pile of rags nearby, picked up one and covered her mouth and nose, then picked up her bow and arrow and ran towards the depths of the cave.

Everyone in the escort followed suit and quickly followed after blocking the choking smoke with wet cloth strips.

Less than ten seconds after they left, the wooden door at the entrance of the cave finally couldn't withstand the burning of the fire. It made a series of explosions and then fell to the ground, sending sparks everywhere.

Two tall figures wearing one-piece fireproof suits and holding nozzles in their hands kicked aside the burning wooden boards under their feet and walked into the cave entrance.

They looked around to make sure there were no enemies before speaking in a muffled voice:

"There is no obstruction at the entrance of the cave."

After hearing this, the commander outside the cave immediately issued a new order:

"Well done. Plan No. 1 will be implemented next."

"Roger that!"

The two fire-breathing soldiers wandered out of the cave, and a team of six people outside picked up their carbines, passed by the two, and quickly headed towards the center of the cave.

The torches inside have been taken away and extinguished by Sophia and the others, so the soldiers can only rely on the light of the tactical flashlight on the Picatinny rail to observe the environment inside the cave.

Therefore, they suffered a lot along the way. Two people fell into the spike trap and died, and one person was killed by an arrow that struck in the dark.

The remaining three people quickly turned off their flashlights, took out the signal stick, lit it, and threw it forward.

With a "whoosh" sound, an arrow hit the middle of them almost at the same time. Seeing this, the three of them sighed secretly: Fortunately, it was shot wrong!

When Sophia, who secretly shot the arrow, saw this, she also shouted in her heart: It's done!

There was a "pop" sound, and a cloud of smoke exploded from the head of the arrow, and quickly enveloped the three soldiers.

"Cough...cough cough! Cough cough cough...uh..."

In the smoke, there was first a cough and the sound of a human being being strangled by the neck. Two seconds later, there were three "bang bang bang" sounds of flesh falling to the ground one after another.

The smoke dissipated very quickly. Five seconds later, Sophia saw three corpses foaming at the mouth and with distorted faces through the green light of the flare.

She put away the bow and arrow in her hand, squatted down and said to her companions:

"Let's go, we should retreat!"

Several people quickly followed Sophia to the entrance of the trail. Just as they were about to go in, an object suddenly flew out of the darkness and landed on the ground in front of them, spinning around.

"Grenade! Dodge!"

While shouting, Sophia kicked a dazed female team member into the passage, and was then thrown to the ground by the person next to her.

After falling to pieces, she still tried to get up, but a stone thrown away by the explosion of the grenade hit the wall and bounced back, hitting her on the head.

Sophia's vision finally turned black and she fainted completely.
