The history of the Ten Rings is shrouded in mystery.Several members consider a source of strength that has inspired generations since the Middle Ages, and perhaps even further back, suggesting that the group is hundreds of years old.Some have even described the group as a "faith".

All branches of the Ten Commandments operate as a single unit, each operating independently of the other.

The leader of each group did not know who was in the other groups except for one contact.

Each cell received money and weapons as long as they received them without the leader asking.

By the early 21st century, the Ten Commandments were operating primarily in Afghanistan.Obadiah Stane of Stark Industries illegally sold weapons to at least one cell to help them achieve their goals, and subsequently made a deal with them to attack and massacre a military convoy.

Attacks on the convoy were halted once it was realized that the convoy included Tony Stark, CEO of Stark Industries, who was on a business trip to Afghanistan.

The cell holds him captive and takes a video informing Stan that he will need to pay them more to kill such a target, while at the same time they try to force their captive Stark to build a Jericho missile.

After weeks in captivity, Stark created a suit of powered armor invented from a small arc reactor instead of the weapons he was asked to create and successfully escaped.

The day after Stark returned to the United States, he upgraded it to the Iron Man armor and attacked various camps in the Ten Rings, destroying the weapons of Stark Industries and its members.

Days later, in the desert, the Ten Rings discovered the remains of the armor that Stark used to escape and rebuilt, and informed Stan.

Raza, the commander of the Ten Rings, proposes a deal with Obadiah Stane in which he will give him free armor only if Stan provides him with Iron Troops.

Obadiah refused, instead paralyzing Raza and taking action.

Stan's soldiers then executed the remaining ten Ring soldiers and possibly Raza.

Sometime after Tony Stark became Iron Man, S.H.I.E.L.D. began fighting the Ten Rings.

At one point, Nick Fury sends a team of U.S. Navy SEALs to board a ship controlled by the Ten Rings in the port of Aden.

However, Iron Man suddenly appears and attacks the terrorists.

Despite Seal's large number of terrorists, Iron Man has no problem killing them all and saving Seal.

Some time later, a member of the Ten Rings assisted Ivan Fanko in traveling to Monaco to seek revenge on Stark.

Around the same time, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanoff crashed a Ten Rings operation.She boards the Ten Rings gang's plane and destroys it.

After that operation, Nick Fury sent Natalie Rushman to Stark Industries under the name Natalie Rushman.

Soon, the "Ten Rings" began to purchase some Jericho missiles from Russian arms dealer Mikhail Fozodorov through various agents.

When Fozodorov stopped delivering some missiles, Ten Rings agent Richard hired an assassin named Sophia to kill him.

Frampton and his colleagues successfully assembled missiles that they intended to detonate near the border between Russia and North Korea, which would significantly disrupt world peace.

However, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanov was on Sofia's heels, infiltrating the launch area and destroying the missile.Frampton and Sophia were both killed in the explosion, and the remaining Ten Rings agents were captured by Coulson and his team.
