Chapter 5 The Locket and the Whisper

"Please wait!"

Mrs. Lovegood stopped Regulus who was about to disapparate.

"Is there anything else I can help you with?" Regulus asked politely.

"Well... Sir, you can say that you have saved our family. How should I repay you..." Mrs. Lovegood seemed a little embarrassed, "... Since this thing is very valuable, why don't you just accept it..."

She pointed to the small package still floating in the air.

"Hahahaha... Usually we don't treat dangerous goods like this as gifts." Regulus laughed.

This made Mrs. Lovegood even more uneasy, and she hurriedly apologized: "I'm sorry...I didn't mean it!"

"Just kidding, I happen to know how to use it. In that case, I'll accept it."

After everyone said goodbye, Regulus returned to No. 12 Grimmauld Place. He was in a good mood today, the entire purchasing activity went extremely smoothly, and there was even an unexpected gain.

You know, Manticore is very powerful, ferocious, and very rare. It is basically impossible for ordinary poachers to hunt it down. All its by-products have a price but no market. Regulus remembered that after Professor Slughorn got the packet of powder, he happily exempted all students in the school from homework for a week.

When he returned home, the chandelier in the corridor had been polished by Kreacher and restored to its crystal clear appearance more than ten years ago.

"Welcome home, Master, Kreacher has prepared lunch, Master can enjoy it at any time." The elf bowed.

Regulus did feel a little hungry. He sat down at the dining table, and Kreacher quickly brought out plates of exquisitely crafted meals that made people appetizing at a glance, including but not limited to Hungarian goulash. French bouillabaisse, fried cod, toffee pudding and even a bottle of oak-aged malt mead.

It was the first time in more than ten years to eat such a sumptuous meal, and Regulus was also a little emotional.

But soon, the sudden feeling of hunger overwhelmed him.

He was seen devouring the food like a whirlwind, sweeping away the seven or eight dishes on the table, and even asked Kreacher to add two dishes at short notice.

Kreacher was not surprised, he was more pleased to see his master had such a good appetite.

After having enough wine and food, Regulus called over Kreacher who was laying a new carpet.

"Is that locket still there?"

Hearing Regulus's question, the elf's thin body froze, and then he immediately picked up a broom and began to beat himself: "Kreacher failed the young master. Kreacher tried all methods but failed to destroy him." Locket…”

"The broom is flying!" Regulus didn't have time to get the wand, so he directly used a wandless spell to seize the broom, "Stop, you are not allowed to punish yourself!"

Kreacher was brought down by the power of the spell, lying on the floor panting, tears rolling down the wrinkles of his skin.

Regulus looked at the pitiful look of the elf and sighed: "That thing is very powerful and very evil. Of course you can't destroy it. But we had no other way at the time, right? But...since I It’s back, let me handle it myself, where did you put it?”

Kreacher got up and sobbed: "On the fourth floor, the study room that the young master often uses, no one has used that room since... since that day. Kreacher will go get it now..."

"I'll go by myself." Regulus disapparated directly.

As soon as he opened the door, a pile of screws immediately gave him a warm "welcome". The grandfather clock in the house seemed to have turned into a fort, launching a frantic attack on Regulus.

Regulus was caught off guard, but fortunately he was agile and hurriedly rolled over to avoid the first wave of attacks, and then took out his wand.

But there were obviously more than one traps in the house. The family robe hanging on the wall came to life, ready to wrap around Regulus's neck like a snake.

Then, the paint-peeling desk also started to move. The drawer opened automatically, and a bunch of tweezers, clamps and other things jumped out from it, and collectively launched a charge towards Regulus.

The grandfather clock turned again, aimed at Regulus again, and fired another string of screws.

"All curses end!" Regulus shouted.

An orange ripple spurted out from the end of the stick and quickly covered the entire room.

The next second, the room was quiet.

"Master, Kreacher is very sorry! This is Kreacher's magic, to protect the locket from being discovered..." The elf rushed to the fourth floor and looked at the messy house, looking a little at a loss.

Regulus waved his hand, indicating that it was okay.

His eyes rekindled the green flame, and the whole world appeared in front of him in a completely different form.

In the entire house, the energy emitted by the black magic creatures has been reduced a lot. Only in the closet of this room is there a deep light.

Regulus walked straight over, and sure enough, Slytherin's locket was lying quietly inside.

"Kreacher, go and do your work. Don't go upstairs without my order."

Then he took out the locket and placed it on the table.

"Burning flames!"

Green flames enveloped the locket, and Regulus continued to release his magic power. The entire room was reflected in green, but the Horcrux lay in the flames, safe and sound.

Regulus was not surprised. This was Voldemort's Horcrux, not an ordinary toy.He tried several more spells, but to no avail.

"Of course, you won't be defeated that easily, right...Thunderbolt explosion!"

This spell was so powerful that even though Regulus controlled the casting range as much as possible, it still blew the desk into pieces and blasted a big hole in the wall. The noise was so loud that it even alerted the people who were changing the curtains on the first floor. Kreacher.

Fortunately, this spell is not irreversible.Regulus and Kreacher teamed up to use restoration magic and quickly repaired the damaged area.

"It was just an accident..." Regulus released a cleanser for himself, swept away the dust on his body, and sent away the worried Kreacher.

Seeing that the spell had no effect, he turned to the powder of the Manticore tail thorn he had just obtained.

So, a spoonful of "lethal dose" of powder was sprinkled on the locket. As soon as the powder touched the surface of the locket, an unsettling hissing sound was heard, and then the locket began to choke. The thick human smoke soon filled the entire room.

Regulus used the Hurricane Charm to blow the smoke out of the window. The reaction stopped. The spoonful of powder had been consumed, but the locket was still lying on the table unharmed.

The hissing didn't stop, but became more pronounced.

Regulus felt inexplicably irritated, and he began to search for possible spells in his mind.

"...you know those magics...you can use them..." a whispering voice sounded.

A deeply hidden memory also resurfaced in his mind, and the faces of several people gradually became clear.Regulus remembered their names: Dolohov, Yaxley, Crabbe, and Goyle.

It was one day in early 1979. They captured a Muggle-born wizard who was once a chaser of Hufflepuff and an opponent of Regulus. He could fly very fast, but his shooting skills were not very good. Well, always a missed opportunity.

He was always cheerful and friendly, although Regulus didn't look too kindly on him at the time.

That night, Dolohov and the others tried to humiliate him with the Imperius Curse, but failed, so they became angry and tortured him with the Cruciatus Curse, and asked the young Death Eaters present to take turns "learning the skills of casting spells" on him.

The ones who were most excited about this were Crabbe and Goyle.

Speaking of these two muscular men, Sirius had a very vivid evaluation of them back then, describing them as orangutans and baboons following Lucius Malfoy.

If the evaluation from Gryffindor was not objective, then Crabgoyle's classmate Snape was even more unkind, saying that the two of them were mountain monsters with brains full of muscles.

Not many people can make the incompatible Sirius and Snape make almost the same evaluation. These two did it, but the strange thing is that it took Crabbe half a semester to even learn the most basic levitation spell. and Gower, who mastered the Crucifixion and Bone Chopping, but were surprisingly fast.

On the contrary, Regulus, as a top student, was severely shocked when he faced the young man who had been tortured to the point of mental collapse and was no longer human. His trembling hand could not hold the wand steady, and he could not even pronounce a complete sentence in his mouth. Spell.

Such a "weak" performance aroused dissatisfaction and ridicule from Dolohov and Yaxley.

"How did this kind of trash gain the Dark Lord's trust?"

"Hmph, for a pampered young master like you, you should just hide at home and let mommy breastfeed you!"

And so on.

The memory images gradually disappeared, but the whispering voice gradually became clearer, sharper and colder.

"...you know that spell...recite that spell and you will achieve your goal...recite it quickly..."
