A day of learning magic at Hogwarts

Chapter 18 Potions Teacher

To be honest, like everyone else, Ian Traister is also full of interest in the course "Potions".

But during lunch, several senior Hufflepuff students poured cold water on them.

"I suggest you not to have high expectations!" Cedric Diggory, a third-year student, said with a wry smile. "Perhaps "Potions Class" is worse than you think..."

"Why?" Ernie McMillan looked at him curiously while chewing on the chicken leg.

Cedric explained simply: "You will know everything after you finish the first Potions Class. I just suggest that you be mentally prepared in advance..."

While listening to their discussion, Ian finished the bowl of mashed potatoes and chicken legs in a hurry.

……

Hufflepuff House's Potions Class is still taken together with the first-year students of Ravenclaw House.

Soon, Ian realized what Cedric meant by "bad".

Potions classes were held in an underground classroom not far from the Hufflepuff common room, but unlike the warm and sunny Hufflepuff common room, this place seemed quite cold and damp.

On one wall of the classroom, there were many glass jars placed along the wall, containing many creepy-looking animal specimens soaked in them (there were several that looked so unique that Ian even suspected they were human specimens).

The Potions teacher was the hook-nosed, sallow-skinned professor that Ian saw on the podium at the banquet.

Judging from the extremely greasy hair, he still didn't seem to wash his hair.

Is it possible that this professor is allergic to shampoo?Ian cursed secretly in his heart.

His name is Professor Severus Snape, who is also the Head of Slytherin House.

Like Professor Flitwick, he picked up the roster as soon as the class started and started calling names one by one.

But compared to Professor Flitwick's extremely enthusiastic voice, his voice seemed very cold.

After reading all the students' names without emotion and briefly getting to know everyone; just like Professor McGonagall, he effortlessly made the entire classroom orderly.

"You are here to learn the precise science and rigorous craftsmanship of potion preparation," Professor Snape said.

His voice was not high, but everyone in the classroom heard every word he said clearly:

"Since there's no silly waving of wands here, many of you won't believe this is magic. I don't expect you to truly appreciate the beauty of a simmering cauldron with white smoke and fragrant aromas. You You don’t really understand the magical power of the liquid that flows into people’s blood vessels, which makes people feel dizzy and confused. I can teach you how to increase your reputation, brew glory, and even prevent death..."

He smiled contemptuously: "But there must be one thing, that is, you are not the kind of fools I often encounter!"

This is a good opening, Ian thought silently in his heart, and summarized the Potions course quite well.

Except for the last sentence, evaluating students like this is somewhat hurtful.

The whole class was speechless at this time, and many Ravenclaw students were straightening their backs, as if they wanted to prove that they were not the fools the professor said they were.

……

"Kona!" Professor Snape took the lead in shouting the name of a Ravenclaw student.

The boy named Michael Corner quickly stood up.

"Tell me what will happen if you mix scurvy, lovage and sneezeweed together?" Snape asked sharply.

"Uh... um... um..." Michael Corner answered hesitantly, unable to answer at all; his face turned red.

"Does the student carefully selected by Rowena have only this level?" Snape shook his head with disdain and motioned for him to sit down, "One point deducted from Ravenclaw!"

Just like this, Kona lost a point to his academy without any trouble, and Kona looked like he was about to cry.

Then, the Potions teacher's eyes shifted to the other students one after another.

The rest of the students were so frightened that they did not dare to vent their anger, for fear that Professor Snape would call them by name next and the college would deduct points.

Justin Finch-Fletchley took advantage of Professor Snape's back to this side and whispered to Ian beside him for help: "Ian, you should know..."

However, his mosquito-like voice seemed to be heard by Professor Snape.

"Finrelly!" He sneered, "It looks like you know the answer to this question?"

Justin stood up tremblingly, not knowing how to answer at all, so he could only shake his head.

"If you don't know the answer to the question, just shut up in my class!"

Then, Ian suddenly felt that a sharp gaze began to focus on him.

"Drizzt," Professor Snape's voice sounded again, "Tell me, what will you get if you mix scurvy, lovage and sneezeweed together?"

Ian stood up slowly.

He replied calmly: "It's a confusion potion, sir. This kind of potion will make people become irritable and reckless after taking it."

Obviously, this is a pretty correct answer and there is nothing wrong with it.

However, the expression on Professor Snape's face did not change at all.

"What is the main role of salamander blood in potions?" He continued to ask: "In other words, what do we usually use it for?"

"Enhancement Potion, Professor!" Ian continued to answer: "Salamander blood is the main component of the enhancement potion, and it has the effect of enhancing the effects of other potions."

"Next question...if I asked you to find me some fresh vegetables, where would you look for them?"

"The main producing areas of white fresh vegetables are the United States and Mexico. They usually grow in dark places that do not face the sun..."

Ernie couldn't help but applaud Ian at this time, and at the same time, Ian felt a lot of surprised eyes focused on him.

"Don't disrupt the class!" Professor Snape yelled at Ernie angrily, while waving his hand for Ian to sit down.

"Drizzt, since you already know the answer to the question, why don't you stand up and take the initiative to answer my question? Isn't it something that you like to see when your classmates are embarrassed in class? ?”

Ian was stunned. Faced with such almost irrational logic, he had no idea how to refute it.

"Hufflepuff also loses one point!" Snape said coldly.
