A day of learning magic at Hogwarts

Chapter 21 Roaring Letter

Time flies so fast, and the first week of classes is coming to an end in the blink of an eye.

On Friday morning, everyone was having breakfast in the auditorium.

Under the enchanted ceiling, on the long tables of the four houses were bowls of oatmeal, plates of pickled herrings, mountains of bread, plates of ham and fresh meat, and even black pudding.

Ian and Ernie sat down at the Hufflepuff table, and sitting on Ian's other side was Justin.Justin is holding a copy of "The Magic of Quidditch" in his hand. "Quidditch" is said to be a new course they will start learning next week. Justin has been studying related knowledge recently. .

As Ian sipped his oatmeal, he heard a commotion.

Flocks of owls flew into the auditorium, circling above the crowd and sending feathers everywhere.

Ian was used to this kind of thing. He calmly blew away a feather that was about to land on his oatmeal, and then continued to drink the porridge.

In fact, when he was having breakfast on the first day, more than a hundred owls suddenly burst into the auditorium. The grand scene really shocked him.

These owls are the couriers of Hogwarts, bringing letters and packages from outside the school into the school before dropping them on their owners' laps. They can be understood as employees of express delivery companies.

But these owls have nothing to do with Ian himself. In this world, he probably doesn't know many people who are familiar enough to send letters and packages to each other, not to mention that the other person needs to be proficient in using an unconventional express delivery tool like an owl.

However, there was a gray owl flying towards them.

The owl stopped in front of Ian, flapping its wings and holding a red envelope in its mouth.

Ian thought about it for a while, then turned his eyes to Ernie beside him.

Poor Ernie hadn't yet swallowed the ham in his mouth. He looked at the red envelope in front of him and turned pale.

"What is this?" Justin on the other side put down the "Magic Quidditch" in his hand and came over curiously.

"This should be...a howler letter..." Ernie stammered.

"Howling letter?" Ian frowned, and it was a brand-new knowledge point that he had never seen before. "Did you send it to me?"

"No..." Ernie smiled bitterly, "This owl is called Price, and it is an owl raised at home, so it is most likely sent to me by my mother."

The red envelope in front of me began to expand a little, and the red color became more and more obvious. The four corners of the envelope even started to smoke. It seems to be warning the recipient that if they don't open it in time, they will face extremely dire consequences.

Ernie had to make a painful choice. He stretched out his trembling hands, carefully took out the envelope from Owl Price's mouth, and tore it open.

At that moment, Ian almost thought it was an explosion——

As the envelope was opened, a huge sound instantly filled the entire auditorium, almost shaking the enchanted ceiling down:

"Hufflepuff! Ernie Macmillan, I really can't believe that the fine tradition of the Macmillan family for nine consecutive generations has ended with you. You probably have never thought about it. What are your father and I? How do you feel about facing this news..."

It was a very sharp woman's voice, as if shouted from a loudspeaker with a power of [-] times. It made the tragedy on the table rattle, and echoes came from the stone walls on all sides.

Everyone in the auditorium was looking at him sideways, wanting to see who had received the shouting letter.

The owner of this voice, Ian guessed, was probably Ernie's mother. The incident she was referring to probably meant that Ernie broke the nine-generation tradition of the Macmillan family and was not assigned to Ravenclaw House, but to Hufflepuff House.

At this time, Ernie was curled up on the chair, and only his red and warm face could be seen.

"...What's even more irritating is that you actually sent us a letter with an owl and lied to us, saying that you had been assigned to Ravenclaw. Your stupid father believed your lies and then held a grand banquet , celebrating ten generations of the McMillan family continuing the tradition…”

At first, Ian was a little sympathetic to Ernie, but when he heard what he said in the letter, he felt a little overwhelmed.

"...It's so irritating! At the banquet, your father and I were told the truth by Mr. Amos Diggory in public. Do you know how the guests present were laughing at us behind our backs? All of this is your fault!"

The roar finally stopped, but the sound was still buzzing in his ears.

The red envelope in Ernie's hand burned and turned into ashes.

He collapsed on the chair like a piglet: "It's over! It's all over!"

There were a few snickers around first, and then gradually disappeared.

The voices in the auditorium sounded again.

"You actually wrote a letter and deceived your parents?" Justin glanced at Ernie in disbelief, "If it were me, I wouldn't dare to think so."

"You mean I brought it upon myself?" Ernie MacMillan said stiffly.

"I just pointed out your mistakes, nothing else!" Justin said angrily, "I'm full and I'm going to the classroom first."

After that, he closed the "Magical Quidditch" in his hand, then turned and left.

Ernie still wanted to say something, but now there were people around, starting to point at him, seeming to be talking about the yelling letter before.

His face turned red and warm again, and he curled up on the chair again, not daring to look up.

"It's over, it's over! I feel like I will be laughed at for the rest of my life because of this roaring letter..." He whispered in great pain.

Ian only felt a little sympathetic, and at the same time wanted to laugh.

He patted Ernie on the shoulder and comforted: "Don't worry, it will only take a few hours for them to completely forget about this matter."

"I hope so!" Ernie was no longer in the mood to continue eating breakfast, and he left the auditorium dejectedly.

Now, only Ian Traister was left alone, enjoying his breakfast alone.
