Urban Life: Our Youth

Chapter 7 Discharge

half a month later.

Sunday morning.

"Shaozhe, are you free now?" Zhang Chuying sent me a WeChat message.

"I'm free," I replied.

"Then please bring your car over and pick my mother up from the hospital."

"Okay, I'll be right over."

I immediately washed and combed my hair again, shaved cleanly, changed into clean clothes, put on less perfume, put on a pair of sneakers, and drove to the hospital.

When I was driving, I was also worried because I bought this classic car in the second-hand car market for less than 1 yuan.

At first, I thought the appearance of this car was pretty good and the price was cheap, so I bought it. Later I discovered that this car had the following problems: First, it was difficult to shift gears. When shifting to first gear, it would always shift. Shift to third gear, and then, as soon as the clutch is released, the car chokes to death; secondly, it burns oil. Other people's cars have to be serviced every 5000km and change the oil again. My car doesn't run 5000km, and the oil burns. It's over; third, it automatically shuts off, and it often stops when I don't let it shut down while running. Fourth, it can't increase the speed. I often step on the accelerator too much, and the speed reaches more than 3000, but the speed always remains. It can't be lifted up; fifthly, it is noisy. The noise of gasoline cars is louder than that of diesel cars.

I went to the repair shop every day, and the cost was already more than the principal of the car. This problem was not repaired, and that problem came out again. Because of this, I had a headache.

Therefore, I would rather ride an electric bike than drive a car.

I thought that when I got rich in the future, I would definitely change to a better car, one with an automatic transmission, so that I would not have to wait for the traffic lights and start stalling again.

Soon, I came to the hospital and met Zhang Chuying first.

"How is it? Have all the discharge procedures been completed?" I asked.

I saw that she was very haggard and tired after being tortured for the past half month.

"Not yet, it's being processed." Zhang Chuying said.

"Then take a rest and I'll help you." I said.

"Okay," she said, sitting on a chair in the hallway.

I ran upstairs and downstairs several times, and finally arrived at the financial office.

"The total cost of Sun Wanfang's hospitalization this time is 3 yuan. You have already paid 3 yuan, and there is still a shortfall of 2000 yuan. You need to pay the full amount before you can go through the discharge procedures." The staff of the finance office said.

"Uh!" When I heard this, my head was buzzing. I thought that I only had 2000 yuan for living expenses, but it was no good if I didn't pay. I guessed that Zhang Chuying was already at the end of his rope, so I gritted my teeth and said, " Okay, I’ll give you two thousand.”

Only then were the discharge procedures completed.

"Thirty-two thousand?" Zhang Chuying took a look at the bill and asked me.

"Yes." I said.

"But, I don't have the money to pay you back now."

"No need to pay it back." I said.

"How can that be possible? When my mother was hospitalized, she lent you 7000 yuan, and today you helped me advance another 7000 yuan. This time, it is equivalent to me borrowing you [-] yuan, plus the money I borrowed from you before [-] yuan, I owe you a total of [-] yuan, you include the interest, and I will repay you the principal and interest when the time comes." Zhang Chuying said.

"Old classmate, why did you ask me about money when we first met? Today's 2000 yuan is equivalent to buying nutritional supplements for my aunt." I said.

"That won't work. I'd be very grateful to you for coming to pick my mother up from the hospital. How can I ask you to spend money?" she said.

Later, I went to her mother's ward with her.

"Hello, aunt!" To be honest, when I saw her mother, I couldn't help but jump in my heart.

"Okay, okay, is it Shaozhe?" her mother said with a smile.

"Yes." I saw his mother's kind eyes, pleasant smile, and fair complexion. She should be recovering well.

"Shaozhe, I heard what Chuying told me. Thanks to you, you helped us a lot this time. Otherwise, we wouldn't even be able to stay in the hospital, let alone have an operation," Zhang Chuying's mother said, " Please come and pick us up from the hospital again today."

"Auntie, you're welcome. Chuying and I are classmates, so we should help each other." I said.

"Okay, if you're being polite, I won't say anything. Let's pack up and go home!" her mother said.

So, Zhang Chuying and I loaded the clothes and other miscellaneous things that her mother had brought when she was hospitalized into the car and drove them home.
