Chapter 218: Back to School Train
The Hogwarts Express roared to life.
While the steam was rising, Esther waved goodbye to her mother Letitia and then entered the carriage.
The carriage was bustling with people, and it seemed no different from any other school day.
Esther looked around from car to car. She was not looking for Ernie or Draco, but for Astoria.
During the summer vacation, they exchanged several letters, mainly Esther asking her about how Nott obtained the unicorn blood.
Astoria also seems to be very busy. Every time she replies, she is very slow and only gives a reply after a few days.
In their last letter, they agreed to meet on the train on the first day of school, so Esther kept looking for her.
Likewise, Astoria was looking for her, and they quickly met and found an unoccupied cubicle to enter.
"Why do you feel that after the summer vacation, you seem to be more beautiful?"
After entering the cubicle, Astoria held her chin lazily and smiled at Esther, with dimples looming on her cheeks.
Her face looked a little haggard and she had lost some weight compared to before she left school during the holidays, looking like she was recovering from a serious illness.
Esther also smiled at her: "Thank you, you are beautiful too."
"I'm not as beautiful as you." Astoria shook her head and said, "Besides being beautiful, your academic performance is also very good. I really can't understand how you arrived at the final exam after you took such a long leave last semester. Did you rank first in grade again?"
Esther didn't understand this either.
She really didn't study particularly hard last semester, and her grades were actually a little behind compared to her previous years.
But she couldn't stand the fact that other people's grades fell further than hers, so she accidentally took the first place in her grade again.
After a few small words, we came to the point of today.
"Why do you care so much about the blood of these unicorns?" Astoria asked curiously: "Are you also afraid of death?"
Esther looked into her gentle eyes and said: "Almost everyone is afraid of death. No one who lives well can accept his sudden death."
"Yes." Astoria sighed, her voice as soft as a puff of smoke: "No one likes death, and I don't like it either."
Esther said nothing.
After Astoria sighed, she said to Esther: "I have already asked Theodore about what you asked me to do. He said that he has been sneaking into the Forbidden Forest since he entered school. As an adult, he has been alone. Horned beasts are very repulsive to men, but young unicorns are not so repulsive. He met a young unicorn in the Forbidden Forest, got along with it for a while, and gained its trust."
Esther was surprised when she heard this: "So, does this blood come from a unicorn cub?"
"Yes." Astoria continued: "The little unicorn was injured later, and Theodore brought some herbs to treat it. In order to thank Theodore, the little unicorn volunteered. Give him the blood you shed."
"Doesn't a voluntary gift contain a curse?"
Esther murmured.
It sounds like Nott's method of obtaining unicorn blood cannot be replicated. After all, wizards have not done much research on unicorn blood that does not contain curses. It can be seen that this kind of thing is really rare.
She remembered that early that morning, the bottle containing unicorn blood that Nott took was quite large, and the small bottle he gave her was about a quarter of the size.
Maybe she had to think of a way to see if she could get some more from him.
Unicorn blood can save dying lives, but if the amount is limited, who should she use it on?
This is really a fatal problem.
Everyone else was fine, but Sirius died because of Bella's Unforgivable Curse.
The blood of the unicorn should not be able to save him, and the pendant that can resist the death curse has been damaged after saving Cedric, so the one who is more in danger now is Sirius.
She knew that she couldn't save everyone, but if there was a way to keep them alive, she might as well try to keep them alive.
Esther frowned slightly, sighed imperceptibly, and then raised her eyes to look at Astoria: "Thank you for the news, so what price do you want to ask me for?"
Astoria smiled and shook her head: "No, I don't need to make an exchange with you."
Esther looked at her uncertainly: "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure." Astoria said nonchalantly: "Do you think I'm different from most Slytherins? My sister often says I'm a little weird."
Esther didn't know what to say for a moment. It's really rare to see such a good-tempered Slytherin these days.
"So what if you are weird in the eyes of others? Everyone is actually multi-faceted." Esther said, "I think you are very good, with a gentle temper and a tough heart."
Astoria showed a big smile, and the dimples on her cheeks fully bloomed: "This is why I am willing to help you for free. I think you are really interesting."
"Thank you for your like." Esther accepted the compliment unceremoniously.
After the matter was discussed, they did not separate, but sat together to discuss other things.
But at the same time, they also had a tacit understanding that they didn't discuss the more sensitive topics, and just picked up some irrelevant topics to chat with.
The train drove all the way to Hogwarts, and Ernie came to see Esther on the way. He saw her sitting with a Slytherin girl, and his eyes widened as the two discussed the new semester's courses.
It just... feels a little bit magical.
But he didn't say anything, he just sat silently next to them and didn't interrupt their chat.
They are both children of pure-blood families. Even though the two families are not closely related, they still met or knew each other when they were young.
Ernie knew that Astoria had a docile personality and was much easier to get along with than children from other pure-blood families.
So Esther is not excluded from being friends with her.
And, no matter who Esther chooses to be friends with, he won't interfere too much.
Although she didn't want to admit it, it was certain that Esther was smarter than him. Even if one day she suddenly became friends with Malfoy, she would have her reasons.
He didn't think Malfoy or other Slytherins could trick her.
The most important thing is that he is very honored to become the male prefect of Hufflepuff this year and has the responsibility of managing other students.
Thinking of this, Ernie worked hard to straighten his back to make the prefect badge on his chest more conspicuous.
While the steam was rising, Esther waved goodbye to her mother Letitia and then entered the carriage.
