Chapter 279 Retribution for Cat Eating

During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, somewhere in Fujian, there was an official’s wife who especially liked to eat cat meat. She also has her own unique way of eating cat meat.

Whenever a servant caught a cat, she would first find a small jar, fill it with quicklime, then throw the live cat into it, and then pour boiling water into it.

In this way, quicklime will heat up when it comes into contact with water and emit steam, and all the fur on the cat will be evaporated by the lime steam. There is no need to bother at all and the hair will be plucked bit by bit.

The cat's blood poured into the internal organs, and the cat's flesh was as white as jade.

The lady said that such cat meat is ten times more delicious than a cockerel.

Gradually, the lady became addicted to eating cat meat. She sent her servants to set up nets and traps to catch cats almost every day. She killed countless cats.

Later, the lady contracted a strange disease, and many doctors were invited to diagnose and treat her, but none could be cured.

The lady was lying on the bed dying, unable to speak, and could only make a sound like a cat meowing "meow meow".

He was tortured by the disease for more than ten days before he died in pain.

Dear readers, please do not think that this story was made up by cat and dog lovers like Huachengmao to scare those who torture and kill small animals. Cats and dogs are spiritual, and this story is true.

Master Lu Ji of Daotai, Fujian Province was a neighbor of this lady. He witnessed her catching cats and eating their meat with his own eyes many times.

Mr. Lu Ji had a son named Lu Yinwen, who was Ji Xiaolan's son-in-law. It was he who told Ji Xiaolan about this incident and it was passed down to this day.

Lu Yinwen also told Ji Xiaolan another story.

It is said that there was a son of an official in Jingzhou (now Jingxian County, Hengshui City, Hebei Province) who was cruel by nature. He usually likes to torture and kill small animals. He often breaks the legs of small animals such as cats and dogs, twists them backwards, and then watches them crawling and jumping on the ground, wailing in pain.

The official's son took pleasure in this, and countless cats and dogs were killed by him.

Later, he got married, but after his children were born, their heels grew backwards, just like the legs of the cats and dogs he broke.

There is a similar story:

There was a slave named Wang Fa in Ji Xiaolan's home. This man is good at shooting birds, and his marksmanship is also very good. His bullets are perfect and he can kill dozens of birds every day.

Wang Fa gave birth to only one son, named Wang Jining because he was born in Jining Prefecture, Shandong Province.

When Wang Jining was eleven or twelve years old, his whole body was suddenly covered with sores, which looked like scars from a soldering iron. What's puzzling is that in every sore on his body, there is an iron bullet from a shotgun, and he doesn't know how it got in.

Wang Fa invited several doctors to treat him and used various medicines, but none of them worked. In the end, he died of pain.

Wang Fa never gave birth to any other children, so he died.

It seems that people say that the retribution for killing is the heaviest, and it is indeed true!

However, what confuses people is that those who practice good deeds do not abstain from killing animals, but only eat fast on certain days, as if they are obeying some kind of law.

Buddhism insists on fasting, so does eating only fruits and vegetables count as merit? Maybe eat fruits and vegetables to avoid killing animals!

Today's Buddhists say: A certain day is the fasting period of Guanyin Bodhisattva; a certain day is the fasting period of Zhunti. If you eat fast on this day, the Buddha will be very happy.

If it were not a day of fasting, even if it was brutally massacred, with all kinds of fat meat piled on the chopping board, cooked in the kitchen, and devoured on the dining table, the Buddha would not care. Is this still true in the world?

Moreover, the emperor does not kill cattle without reason, the officials do not kill sheep without reason, and the common people do not kill dogs or pigs without reason. This is all stipulated by etiquette and law.

Although Confucian scholars must abide by the etiquette and justice of the sages, there is absolutely no reason not to eat meat.

However, in addition to entertaining guests and offering sacrifices, if you often kill animals, it is absolutely inappropriate!

Just to eat a piece of meat, they will not hesitate to kill a life; just to drink a meal of soup, they will suddenly kill dozens or even hundreds of lives, and use the infinite fear and pain, infinite misery and resentment of many creatures for people to enjoy Isn’t it a bit contradictory to enjoy a temporary taste and to eat fast on specific days?
