Chapter 74 Under the Bed

Community A is an old community, close to the old industrial area, and there were some houses rented to processing factories in the past.

Later, as more tenants moved in and the city's management became stricter, these factories were cleared out, leaving many dilapidated and empty buildings.

The house was renovated from a former factory dormitory. It has a rectangular "back" structure with four rooms in the north and south, with a total of eight floors. The stairs are located on the left and right sides. They are semi-open stairs with balconies. You can see whether anyone is walking around from downstairs.

Xu Niannan lived on the fifth floor. The lights in few rooms around him were on. Hearing the siren of the police car, a few people walked out of the upstairs and poked their heads out of the corridor, wearing pajamas and pants to watch the excitement.

The policeman who questioned him before looked at his surroundings, frowned, and asked Xu Niannan to open the door.

There was still a lingering gas smell in the room, but the concentration was not high. The police turned on the lights. At first glance, it looked like an ordinary room and a living room. Except for some mold on the walls, there was nothing unusual.

The policeman asked: "When you came home and opened the door, you found the gas was on, right?"

Xu Niannan replied: "Yes, I have been eating out recently without turning on the gas."

A policeman dug out the men's sneakers from the shoe cabinet.

Policeman: "Did you have an extra pair of shoes when you came back?"

Xu Niannan nodded: "Yes."

Policeman: "Have you ever entered the room?"

Xu Niannan: "No, I didn't dare. I ran downstairs when I found these shoes."

The policeman looked at her: "You did a good job."

Xu Niannan saw the comfort in his eyes and smiled.

Police: "The person probably hasn't left yet. Let's focus on searching the room."

A policeman had already entered the room, and then there was a message: "Boss, he's here."

When I entered the room, I saw a young police officer lying on the floor, flashing a flashlight under the bed.

The other one closed the closet, and the two of them worked together to remove the mattress planks.

Xu Niannan stood at the door and did not dare to go in.

I only heard the young police officer say: "There are no vital signs. It is initially determined to be gas poisoning."

The police officer who asked the question should be the police officer leading the team. He began to arrange manpower: "Call back to the station and ask someone to call Xiao Gu over."

Then he added: "You two collect fingerprints and clues, don't miss anything."

The police called the landlord, who lived in another community a few kilometers away and usually did not stay here at night.

The older police officer asked again: "You are the landlord, right? We need to register your name first."

The landlord gave his name and looked anxious: "Hey, comrade police, the security of our building is qualified, and the door locks are often changed. Why did this person come in and steal things?"

Policeman: "Let's discuss this issue separately. Let me ask you, why are there so few people living in this building?"

The landlord began to explain that a few months ago, the community was spotted by a real estate developer. The entire community was going to be demolished in the near future because there were still some issues in the contract that had not been signed, but it was a done deal.

Recently, the landlord cleared out a group of people whose rental contracts had expired, so the whole building seemed unpopular, and most of the residents had moved out.

Xu Niannan's lease renewal period has not yet expired, and she has not found a new house yet, so she continues to live here.

The landlord is afraid that because this murder case will affect the demolition work at that time, he is afraid that the duck he got will fly away.

He opened his mouth to explain, trying to shift the responsibility outward: "Comrade police, our building has always been very safe. I have never heard of anything like this happening in any house..."

The police officer interrupted him without giving him a chance to talk nonsense: "Have you seen any strangers entering the building recently? Are the cameras in the building turned on?"

When asked about this, the landlord began to hesitate: "I usually come during the day, and when I come here, I stay in the security room downstairs. There are surveillance cameras at the stairs. How about checking the surveillance?"

So the two of them followed the landlord to adjust the monitoring.

Not long after, a forensic doctor came in. Xu Niannan had been outside the room, watching the police coming in and out. After a while, the person who adjusted the surveillance downstairs also came back.

It's just that the two policemen who went to adjust the surveillance looked at her strangely when they came up.

Xu Niannan saw what the two policemen said to the older police officer. The police officer frowned and walked out of the room.

Police Officer: "When did you come back here?"

Xu Niannan was a little confused, but still answered honestly: "I get off work at [-]:[-], and I got home around [-]:[-]."

The police officer wrote down: "Did you go straight in when you got home?"

Xu Niannan: "No, a little girl from my neighbor asked me to go to her house, named Tingting, and asked me to play with her, so I went over to her house and stayed for about twenty minutes."

The police officer asked again: "How old are you approximately? What do you look like? Do you have any obvious features?"

Xu Niannan recalled for a moment and said: "Slim and small, about five or six years old, with big eyes, very cute." After speaking, he raised his hand and gestured in front of him: "About this height."

The officer looked into her eyes, as if trying to determine whether she was lying.

Xu Niannan felt a little strange and asked, "Is there something wrong?"

Police officer: "There are some minor problems. I wonder if Ms. Xu is under a lot of pressure at work?"

Xu Niannan was confused: "It's okay. I usually work in a cake shop, so the work pressure is not very high."

The police officer nodded and asked again: "I wonder if it would be convenient for you to take us to Tingting's house to have a look. We have some evidence that we need to collect."

Tingting's home is on the 6th floor, and Xu Niannan leads the way. When standing at the door of 601, Xu Niannan has a bad premonition.

She confirmed the location, and it was indeed 601, Tingting's home. She remembered that when the door opened, it was a warm old house. The furniture was relatively old, but it was cleaned very clean.

However, the room in front of me was locked and sealed, and the door was dilapidated and dusty, as if no one had lived in it for a long time.

Xu Niannan was in a daze, and his mind seemed to be unable to turn around.

She murmured: "Did I remember the room number wrong? I still remember she called me sister and asked me to turn the flower rope with her..."

The policeman looked at her quietly, and then asked the landlord to open the door. The room was covered with dust. The furniture and other items were placed in the same position as before, but they were all covered with a dark color and looked very old. In the middle of the hall, an open space was swept away, revealing a clean floor. Xu Niannan remembered that she and Tingting were sitting in that position to turn over the flower rope.

Xu Niannan was in a daze: "Why is this happening?"

The police officer stated calmly, his voice calm and without any fluctuations: "From the surveillance, we saw that you went upstairs by yourself, and there was no 'Tingting' around you. As for how you got in, we need further investigation on this issue."

Police officer: "According to your description, the little girl named Tingting did live in room 601, but that was thirty years ago. After her mother fell ill and died, she and her father moved away... "
