Hollow Knight: Hallownest

Chapter 353 Bait and Predator

If we talk about how powerful the Mantis warriors are after being eroded by the void, it will naturally be a level higher than before, but if they want to defeat Zemor with such strength, it is still a pipe dream. Everyone who is running is very clear about this.

So when they heard that Zemore's first reaction was to run, they couldn't help but feel confused, but they still followed her pace and moved forward quickly.

"Knight Zemor, why did we just...?"

Just as Ida was about to ask, Delia raised her hand to interrupt him and shook her head.

As Zemore's friend for many years, combined with what she had seen before, she could roughly guess why Zemore did this.

There are not many roads leading to the Deep Nest. Now they have to take a detour to take twice as long as originally planned. Seeing that the figure of the mantis warrior behind him had already disappeared, Zemor slowed down his pace and explained guiltily:

"Those mantises are all from Kunule's tribe, and it's not their fault that they are like this now. We should avoid them if possible. I promised them..."

She wanted to find a way to heal the mantis tribe for Kunule, and she also wanted to save the lives of as many mantises as possible so that the restored tribe would not die out.

The group of insects trudged for a long distance again. Fortunately, the road they were traveling on was not guarded by any mantis warriors. Although it was a long way, they successfully arrived at the entrance of the deep nest.

The entrance to the cave was extremely dark, as if it had swallowed up all the light from the surroundings. It was obvious that it was difficult to even take a step outside.

"Everyone follow me closely and follow my instructions in all actions." Delia said seriously as she walked to the front of the team.

She had explored the deep nest twice before, but unfortunately due to various restrictions and the complicated routes inside, she was unable to obtain any useful information in the first two times. However, she was able to reduce the chances of trial and error.

As they entered the deep nest, an inexplicable cold breath invaded their bodies, accompanied by irregular vibrations under their feet.

Because in such a dim environment even the slightest light would be extremely glaring, in order to avoid attracting the attention of unknown enemy insects, none of Drya's group held a lantern. They relied entirely on their hands and the sense of touch under their feet. Their speed dropped drastically, and they could not walk as far as they had covered in a few breaths when they came.

"The natives here are much more violent than before. You must pay attention to the vibrations coming from under your feet. That is a warning of an attack."

Although the insects kept it in mind, the journey was not as peaceful as the way here. From time to time, Capides and Dust Gravers would jump out of the gray-black rock and soil. The latter were small and easy to deal with, but the former's hard armor and huge size made them suffer a lot. The originally smooth road was blocked several times, and they had to take detours again and again.

"Drea, what's going on?"

"I'm not sure. You saw those bugs just now. The terrain of Deep Nest changes almost every once in a while because of them. This is also the main reason why I returned empty-handed the last two times. The road we are taking now should be a new road, but I have no idea where it leads..." Delia sighed and said helplessly, "I hope my luck will be better this time."

Zemor looked back, and the deep and gloomy feeling made her feel a little uncomfortable, as if something would suddenly jump out from that depth.

"In that case, let's continue... hm?"

Delia heard her surprised cry and quickly turned around to look behind her: "What's wrong?"

"I think I saw something just now... Look at that!"

Zemor's voice suddenly sank, and she raised her hand and pointed to a fork in the side. Normally, nothing should be visible at that distance, but she noticed a figure walking forward, appearing and disappearing from time to time.

The figure was not tall, nor did it have multiple pairs of appendages like the insects they had encountered before. Its walking posture was extremely normal, and it looked like an ordinary resident.

Delia looked in the direction her hand was pointing, rubbed her eyes in disbelief, and her eyes lit up with joy after confirming that it was correct.

She had never met any residents here in her previous two visits. Wouldn't it be much easier to travel with their guidance?

"Everyone, please speed up a little, but be careful not to make too much noise."

She waved her hand, and the insects quickened their pace towards the fork in the road, following the figure in the distance.

The Capids and Dust-Cutters that were usually encountered after just a dozen steps were rarely seen on this road. This made Delia more certain that she was following the right bugs and that she would soon be able to find the residence of the Weaver.

"Drea, do you feel anything strange?"

"what?"

Zemor frowned, his eyes fixed on the figure in the distance, and asked in confusion: "Our pace is obviously much faster than before, but the figure's posture has not changed at all. Why do I feel that the distance between us and him is getting farther and farther?"

Delia raised her eyebrows and began to look ahead carefully, quickening her pace.

"It's just as you said, but could it be that we didn't see his lower body because of our field of vision?"

Zemor didn't comment. The lower half of the figure was indeed shrouded in darkness, leaving them with only a slightly tilted back view. But she always felt something was wrong, as if...

"I always feel like he's guiding us. Could it be...he's already discovered us?"

Delia paused, but shook her head hesitantly: "You focused your attention on him just like I did. You should have noticed that he didn't make any special movements along the way. It doesn't look like he noticed us. And if, as you said, he was guiding us..."

"Where is he trying to lead us?"

Shortly after she finished speaking, the figure walking in the distance was suddenly swallowed up by the darkness. Seeing this, Delia was startled and hurriedly increased her speed, but she could not find the previous figure.

lost!

"Something's wrong, everyone stop!"

Delia shouted softly and stood there feeling her surroundings.

There was no vibration here like when they came here. It seemed that the insects were deliberately avoiding this place. For those insects that only followed their instincts, there was only one reason for them to avoid this place -

There are predators here that are far more powerful than them!

pat-

Delia's pupils suddenly shrank to the size of a needle tip. She felt her shoulders being hit by water drops and slowly raised her head.

From the shadows above, the figure they had followed all the way gradually emerged.

However, there were no feet under the cloak, but rather a series of dark bones that stretched into the depths of darkness.
