America 1881: Legend of the West

Chapter 295 Li Ri’s bottom line

Half an hour after the three Wyatts left, Li Shiri appeared at the door of the archives.

He was afraid that others would notice him, so he lowered his head and followed a staff member carrying a bag into the door.

As Li Shiri walked inside, he glanced around with his peripheral vision to see if there were any other Pinkerton detectives in the archives.

Then, his eyes caught the patrol captain who was leading people out.

At this time, the captain was thinking back to Wyatt's arrogant look just now, and the more he thought about it, the more angry he became.

He happened to see Li Shiri coming towards him, and at the same time caught a glimpse of the Pinkerton badge on his chest.

"Garbage!" he spat at the Chinese opposite.

Li Shiri tilted his head slightly to avoid the patrol captain's "biochemical attack". He had a sullen face and clenched his hands into fists.

But he still didn't have the courage to punch the patrol captain. He just buried his head deeply again and hurriedly passed by the captain.

The captain was very upset when he failed, and was about to step forward to block Li Shiri's way.

But the younger brother on the side reminded him that he had to go back quickly and report the results of the data review to the director.

So, he finally chose to say harsh words: "Just wait for me, we'll see!"

Although Li Shiri was inexplicably angry at the patrol captain, he had no intention of thinking about this issue.

Instead, he walked directly into the glass door.

After Li Shiri showed his ID to the blond young man at the reception, he asked eagerly: "Did any of my colleagues come to check the information just now?"

The young man looked at the name on his ID, then at Li Shiri, with a strange expression: "Uh, yes, sir."

"Whose information were they accessing?"

"Well, they..." The young man returned Li Shiri's ID card but hesitated.

"Please tell me." Li Shiri quietly handed the blond boy fifty cents and whispered.

"It's your information they're accessing."

Li Shiri's face was ashen.

It seems that the people from the Pinkerton Detective Agency have doubts about themselves. If they find out that the identity certificate they provided is false, they will definitely be sent back to the country.

On the other side of the ocean, there were many more people who wanted to kill him.

Li Shiri turned around and left.

He decided to gamble again to see if his junior brother could find a way out for him and let the person in charge of Pinkerton turn a blind eye to his deception.

About ten minutes later, he returned to the door of the Pinkerton Detective Agency's San Francisco office.

Pinkerton's office in San Francisco, located on Jackson Street, was first headed by Lynch, who died in the valley of New Mexico.

He rented a front room on this street and usually only put one or two liaison officers here.

At that time, no one cared about it and there were only a few people around.

After the dock union fire, Pinkerton realized his lack of power in this important West Coast town.

William Pinkerton, the second son of the agency's founder, Allan Pinkerton, moved here and established the Western General Command here.

Little Lynch, one of the original "Three Heroes of the West", disappeared, and even his body has not been found; Doby was inexplicably killed by a group of bandits, leaving only the oldest and most experienced Hellman.

What's even more unbearable is that they were framed in San Francisco some time ago.

Alan Pinkerton couldn't bear this tone, and he decided to investigate and find out the truth.

He sent a large number of employees over.

So now the place is bustling again.

Li Shiri put his hands in his pockets and walked into the office door.

There were many agents coming and going in the corridor, but few wanted to see Li Shiri.

If he was always stared at in the police patrol because of his skin color, then in the Pinkerton Detective Agency he was always looked at with nostrils, and it wasn't just because of his skin color.

In the eyes of those Pinkerton detectives who put their eyes above their heads, he was of little use except for being able to fight.

Li Shiri lowered his head and walked into his team's lounge.

To his surprise, his captain and teammates on the same team were all there.

And his teammates were looking at him with strange eyes.

Li Shiri had no time to pay attention to the looks of these people, but went straight to his captain:

"Captain, I want to see Mr. Pinkerton. I have an urgent matter with him!"

The captain leaned his butt against the table, as if he didn't hear Li Shiri's words.

He folded his hands on his chest, lit a cigarette for himself, and glanced at Li Shiri: "Why did you go back early last night?"

Li Shiri was stunned: "I'm not feeling well. Didn't I report it to you in advance?"

"So where did you go this morning?" The captain took a puff of cigarette and looked at Li Shiri with his head tilted.

Li Shiri felt something was wrong.

The captain's current tone was like interrogating a prisoner.

He thought for a moment and decided to answer truthfully: "I went to have a cup of coffee with my junior brother. Yes, you heard it right, that is my junior brother. He is a serious suspect in the arson case at the dock."

"This is what I want to report to Mr. Pinkerton," he added.

The captain snorted, seemingly not interested in the matter: "Robert's wallet is lost."

Li Shiri felt as if he was struck by lightning. He glanced at the other team members in the room and took a deep breath: "You won't suspect that I stole it, right?"

"We didn't say anything." Robert, the owner of the wallet, shrugged, "but we all agree that you are the most likely suspect."

The other people present did not speak, but judging from their expressions, Robert's words represented their views.

"If you don't mind, can you let us search you?" the captain said.

Li Shiri finally couldn't bear it anymore. His face darkened and his voice was cold: "I've worked hard for you, but you actually suspect me of doing such a thing?!"

The team members looked left and right, and several people stepped forward, ready to take action.

"I wonder who dares?" Li Shiri finally got brave enough and roared with astonishing momentum.

The few people who were about to approach were suffocated by his momentum and stopped.

They have seen this man's skills, and if they rush forward rashly, they may not get any good results. If they are unlucky, they may lose their arms and legs.

The captain took out the gun from his waist.

And the team members, following their captain, drew out their guns.

At one time, a dozen gun barrels were pointed at Li Shiri.

"How can I, a dignified Chinese man, be humiliated by a body search? How can you taint my innocence?!" Facing these dozen gun barrels, Li Shiri's voice was like a bell, his words were sonorous and powerful, and his voice echoed in the room.

"I will do it myself!"

He began to dig into his pockets and, under the watchful eyes of everyone in the room, turned the contents inside out one by one.

Change, ID, keys, the unfinished pancake in the morning...

However, when his hand touched the last item in his pocket, his fingers felt like an electric shock.

This thing doesn't seem to belong to him.

The captain noticed something strange in Li Shiri's expression and moved his gun: "Take it out!"

Li Shiri stood awkwardly, hesitant.

"Hurry! Take it out, I won't repeat it a second time!" the captain warned, and reset the revolver's hammer with his thumb.

Li Shiri had no choice but to take that thing out of his pocket.

Everyone's eyes followed that thing and fell on the table.

The last thing Li Shiri took out was Robert's lost wallet.

"I'm just fucking saying..." A curse word popped out of Robert's mouth. He took a step forward and grabbed Li Shiri's collar.

But Li Shiri, who was in despair, didn't even hide away.

"Let him go." The captain was more reasonable and asked Robert to let go.

He turned to Li Shiri: "Everyone has gained the stolen goods, what else do you have to say?"

Li Shiri remained silent and did not answer.

"Don't worry, I won't hand you over to those stupid policemen in San Francisco." The captain raised his fingers at the Chinese in front of him, "Pinkerton cannot afford to lose this person."

"You put him in a solitary room and stay there." He ordered the two team members around him, "Lock him up for a few days first, then hand it over to the judge or we should handle it internally. I will discuss it with the commander."

Two team members held Li Shiri at gunpoint and escorted him into the solitary room.
