America 1881: Legend of the West
Chapter 386 Men’s Favorite Sports (Page 12)
"Dad, why did you come back?" The little girl pouted.
"Dad is going to handle some cases." Roosevelt hugged his daughter with a doting look on his face.
"Why don't you be good at home when I'm gone? Hey, don't touch my glasses!"
The little girl's hand had restlessly grasped Roosevelt's glasses.
She pulled her glasses over, then jumped from her father's arms to the ground with a giggle, and ran towards a woman standing at the door.
"Return the glasses to your father quickly." The woman bent down and said to the child.
Chen Jianqiu saw that the woman was a bit older, wearing an apron, and looked like a child's nanny.
The glasses eventually returned to Roosevelt's nose.
He took Chen Jianqiu into the big house in the center of the ranch.
After entering the door, there is the living room, and the furnishings in the living room are not much different from those in other western houses, just a little more refined.
If there is any difference, it is that on the wall behind the fireplace in the living room, one after another taxidermied animal heads are hung.
There are reindeer and argali.
The most eye-catching thing is a grinning brown bear head.
These specimens are lifelike and look very well made.
“These are the trophies I got from hunting in the mountains near here,” Roosevelt said proudly.
Chen Jianqiu looked up at these animal specimens.
But soon, his eyes fell on a small picture frame on the mantelpiece.
In the photo frame was a black-and-white photo of two people, one of whom was Roosevelt and the other, a young woman.
"She is Alice's mother, my love."
Roosevelt noticed Chen Jianqiu's gaze and said.
There was a little nostalgia and sadness in his voice:
"She died in childbirth when giving birth to Alice, and my mother also died that year."
"That's why I came here from the East, and that year, I could barely breathe."
He looked out the window, his eyes hidden behind the reflective glass.
Little Alice was running happily on the grass of the pasture under the care of her nanny, her laughter as clear as a silver bell.
"She's so much like her mother."
"Feel sorry."
Chen Jianqiu found that he had inadvertently touched some sad past events that should not be mentioned.
"Okay, let's not talk about this anymore."
Roosevelt turned his head and the smile returned to his face.
"Although the case is most likely solved, since you are here, you will only stay for two days, just in time to help me train the police officers I have. I heard that your detective agency is very good. You must have some tricks."
Chen Jianqiu did not deny it, nor did he elaborate on it.
He couldn't tell Roosevelt that his biggest trick was to throw money at him.
"Eat some dinner here. After dinner, I will take you to see some interesting things."
Roosevelt said to the three of them mysteriously.
"Man's favorite."
The dinner at the ranch is very rich, with fresh beef and milk, as well as bread.
After drinking and eating, the three of them followed Roosevelt and got back on the horse.
"Take care of Alice, we'll be back soon." Roosevelt said to the nanny and several servants.
Dusk fell, and they headed towards the town again.
Shepherd Town soon appeared in Chen Jianqiu's sight.
Tonight, the town was not as dark as other times, but rather lively.
The camp they passed by before was now crowded with people.
The burning braziers and torches illuminated the sky at the entrance of the town as bright as day.
"Buffalo Bill's" circus is open.
Roosevelt bought a ticket at the door and led the three people into the camp.
"Everyone in the audience, the person performing for you below will be the best and best female shooter in the West."
"Annie————Oakley!!!"
The host raised his voice.
This greatly aroused the emotions of the audience below.
By the time the dwarf woman jumped onto the stage, the audience was already excited.
Although dwarf women are not amazing in appearance, they do have some real abilities.
She first smashed an apple on the head of her assistant (actually her husband) amidst the exclamations of everyone, and then smashed everything the assistant threw into the air from the stage.
Chen Jianqiu watched with gusto from behind the crowd.
One thing to say is that this woman's level is only used for acting, which is a bit of an understatement.
He wondered who had a better marksmanship between this woman and Camilla.
There is an opportunity for them to face off to see who is the most accurate woman in the West.
Just as Chen Jianqiu was still imagining the scene of a battle between two women in his mind, someone tapped him on the shoulder.
It was Roosevelt who looked excited.
"Hey, the most exciting part is about to begin, come with me."
Chen Jianqiu followed Roosevelt through the crowd and came to the other side of the camp.
There is also a lot of people here.
A group of men gathered around a square wooden platform, eager to try.
"Welcome to the most exciting sport in men, boxing!" Roosevelt shouted.
Chen Jianqiu was a little unimpressed.
During his journey to the west, he encountered many black boxing activities, but he rarely participated.
He was afraid that he would not be able to control the situation properly and beat them to death.
Although boxing at this time already had rules and it was recommended to wear gloves, in the West, bare boxing was still the main method.
"Boxing is my favorite sport because it can exercise my coordination and willpower." Roosevelt said to Chen Jianqiu, "I'll be there later."
"Hobby doesn't mean you have to get beaten."
Sean glanced at Roosevelt's slightly thin body and the glasses on his nose, and muttered.
Chen Jianqiu smiled and said nothing.
The boxing match on the stage soon began.
A group of passionate men came on stage and started fighting.
But since it was bare boxing without any protective measures, some of them soon suffered broken hands or their heads swelled into pig heads.
Most people were bleeding on the spot.
The fight was intense on the court, and the opening session off the stage was also exciting.
The audience and boxers placed their bets and cheered, cheered and booed for their own fighters!
It was Roosevelt's turn.
He took off his glasses, took off his coat, and handed it to Chen Jianqiu.
Unlike other boxers, he wore a vest.
The education Roosevelt received since childhood did not support him being naked in public.
His opponent was a farmer who lived near the town.
The farmer was in the ring, clearly disowning the Sheriff.
He quickly closed the distance between him and Roosevelt and began to attack Roosevelt.
