America 1881: Legend of the West
Chapter 409 Imperial Envoy
Riley sent a telegram to Pacific Coal's headquarters.
Manager Weber was so angry after reading the telegram that he called his assistant over and cursed him.
"This is the good detective agency you recommended!" He threw the telegraph newspaper on the table.
The assistant's head was filled with confusion.
He didn't understand why the telegram arrived on Weber's desk without passing through him.
Although the assistant's face was filled with fear, his mouth remained firm:
"There is no reason for this to happen. The Border Detective Agency has a good reputation. Their commissions have never gone wrong. How could this happen?"
Weber looked at him sideways:
"Who am I asking you to ask me?"
The assistant shook his head:
"There must be other reasons here." He picked up the telegraph newspaper, read it again and put it down, "otherwise we can send someone over."
"Only you go!" Weber said.
The assistant's face turned bitter: "Manager, can you replace me with someone else?"
"Mike, as a human being, you must be responsible. Whoever pokes the hole will solve it." Weber said earnestly.
He rummaged through another report from the drawer and put it on the table.
This is a financial statement.
"The strike has been going on for a month! You have delayed at least three weeks of it. If this situation continues, the coal mine's losses will be unacceptable to investors!"
He looked at his assistant Mike expressionlessly.
"When the time comes, I will definitely have to get out, but don't worry, before I get out, you idiots will be one step ahead of me!"
"Huh?" Mike stood there not knowing what to say.
"So, give me an explanation." Weber patted the table again and looked out the window.
What else did Mike want to say.
Weber suddenly became furious. He stood up and threw the report into the assistant's face:
"Why don't you get out of here?!"
Riley was having a particularly hard time waiting for a reply from headquarters.
Before, he had to guard against the threat of Chinese workers day and night, but now he also had to guard against Hanif and his detectives.
He initially had no intention of providing food and shelter for the detectives.
But Riley soon discovered that this matter was not based on his will.
From time to time, Chinese workers would hang out in small groups at the door of the No. 3 mine's material warehouse with guns in hand.
There is not only food there, but also all kinds of valuable things from the coal mine.
He and the mine employees alone were completely unable to protect the safety of these materials.
So, it's up to Hanif and his detectives.
It must be said that in terms of security, the detectives of the Border Detective Agency are very professional.
Not only did they protect the warehouse of Mine No. 3, they even took a boat across the river and protected Mine No. 6 as well.
In addition, Riley does not have the power to void the contract.
Therefore, the detectives of the Border Detective Agency were still having fun; Hanif finished reading a novel and went to the town to buy three or four more; the workers continued to go on strike, and they even held a party across the river.
Everyone is doing fine except Riley.
A few days later, Mike brought the people from the headquarters to Shiquan Town.
"You are finally here!" Riley held Mike's hand.
This scene seemed familiar to him, but he believed that since Mike was one of his own, the outcome would definitely be different.
"What's going on?" Mike took his hand out of Riley's hand and glanced sideways at him, "What are you doing?"
Riley was stunned.
What did I do?
"It's not me, it's the detectives from the Border Detective God and their captain with the mustache!" Riley explained with difficulty, "He came and did nothing at all!"
"Take me to see it!" Mike's face was gloomy.
Riley took Mike to the wooden house where Hanif and his family lived.
"That mustache just sits in the house and reads novels every day. I can't do anything to him."
Riley spoke and pushed open the door of the cabin.
But his words stopped abruptly.
There was no one except for two detectives on their shift break.
Hanif is not here either.
"Where's your boss?" Riley asked with a frown.
"He went on patrol. He said that during the strike, the safety of every corner of the coal mine must be ensured!" the detective replied.
"Humph!"
Mike glanced at Riley, snorted angrily, and walked away.
Riley quickly followed.
They walked around Well No. 3 before finding Hanif at the door of the material warehouse, who was directing the reinforcement of the roof.
"Everyone, stay alert! If those Chinese workers come to attack, we must control the situation as soon as possible to prevent the employer's supplies from being damaged!"
Hanif stroked his beard and shouted with his hands on his hips.
Mike was silent.
"Why are you pretending now? Is this what we hired you to do?"
Riley was furious when she saw Hanif.
"Or else?"
Hanif turned around and stared at Riley inexplicably.
"Then I'll go?"
"Stop acting here! I have reported everything directly to Mr. Weber! He knows everything clearly. Look, this didn't send Mr. Mike."
Riley was also prepared to get into a heated argument with Hanif.
"shut up!"
Mike couldn't hold it in any longer, and interrupted Riley's words with a loud shout.
Riley was scolded and was completely confused. He couldn't tell the difference between east, west and north for a while.
Mike gave Riley a hard look, pulled Hanif aside, and whispered in a voice that was inaudible to those behind him:
"Mr. Hanif, although we have a good relationship, you can't cheat me like this."
"Huh?" Hanif turned his head and looked at Mike, a little confused.
"I recommended you in front of the general manager, but you've been here for almost a month and you haven't done anything?" Mike complained.
"You are wronging me by saying that!" Hanif looked unconvinced. "Look, we have been here for so long. Has anyone been injured in the mine? Has your company's property been damaged?"
"Well, well, I know this. You guys are doing a great job, but what I mean is that you are here to solve the problem." Mike explained patiently.
But Hanif jumped up:
"Solve the problem? Your mine manager gave me a good idea!"
His voice was filled with anger and suddenly amplified, and everyone behind him could hear it!
"He asked me to go on a killing spree and kill those who took the lead in making trouble!"
"You're talking nonsense! When did I say that?" Riley tried his best to defend himself when he heard Hanif slap him down.
Hanif made a head-cutting gesture: "You said, 'If it really comes to that, it's not impossible, but it can't be too big,' right?"
"It was obviously you who proposed it! I just agreed with your proposal." Riley was a little angry and spoke fluently.
"I said shaving my head, what are you talking about?" Hanif retorted without any sign of weakness.
"I, I" Riley's mind couldn't turn around anymore.
Mike's face had turned the color of pig liver.
He walked up to Riley and poked his shoulder with his finger:
"You have the guts! Just pack your bags and get out!"
Riley stood frozen.
What happened was reported to the headquarters by Mike in a brief telegram.
The main reason why the strike could not be resolved was that the manager of the Shiquan Town Coal Mine acted in an extreme manner and intensified the conflict. The Border Detective Agency performed its duties faithfully and protected the property in the mine from being affected.
The telegram from headquarters came back soon:
Tell Riley to get out and you stay with the Border Detective Agency to sort out the strike for a week.
The implication is that if you can't solve it, your end will be no better than Riley's.
Looking at Riley's back as he rolled up his bundle and cursed.
Mike said nothing.
How could he not know that Riley was wronged.
But someone has to take the blame for this month's delay.
This person definitely cannot be the Border Detective Agency that I recommended. If there is a problem with the Border Detective Agency, I can't run away.
Nor will they be the overseers.
These people are not qualified.
It looked like it could only be the unlucky coal mine manager.
Mike happened to find him extremely unpleasant.
A coal mine manager like you has the nerve to leapfrog your superiors and file a report. You've been around for so long and you've just gotten into the dog's belly.
If you don’t take the blame, who will? If you don’t get out, who will?
Live it!
