If there are beams on the roof, there will be food in the house. If there are no beams on the roof, the livestock will not be prosperous.

Raising the beam is the most important step in building a house.

Today happens to be an auspicious day, a good day for raising the beam.

Before raising the beam, sacrifices must be offered to the gods. The offerings include a "whole pig" (a pig's head and a pig's tail, symbolizing a whole pig), commonly known as "lucky money".

Chicken, fish, tofu, eggs and soy sauce in five colors are placed on a wooden red plate at the top of the altar. There are 24 bowls of other dishes and 12 bowls of fruit.

The beams for the main beam were found by the villagers on the mountain and selected by Cheng Dafu himself.

It is not easy to choose a good beam. First, the owner has to go to Nanshan to select the beam in person.

The conditions for selecting beams can be said to be harsh. First, the beams must be made of fir trees. Second, they must be luxuriant and straight. Third, the age of the tree cannot be too old or too young, and the size of the trunk should be as consistent as possible. Fourth, there should be many small fir trees growing around the tree, the more the better, symbolizing many children and grandchildren.

If there is only one piece of wood, it cannot be used.

When felling, be sure not to harm the surrounding small fir trees, and the beams must fall towards the south, not in any other direction.

Offering sacrifices to the beams before raising them is an essential procedure.

People carried the main beam with red silk hanging on both ends into the brick factory hall.

On both sides of the gate was a pair of yellow paper couplets:

First couplet: Creating a business and auspicious clouds rolling in the courtyard

Second line: The house is full of auspiciousness and aspirations

The bricklayer and carpenter toasted while speaking nice words.

After the beam sacrifice, the craftsmen lifted the main beam onto the roof and pulled it up with ropes.

When the beam was being pulled, firecrackers blasted, and the beam-raising master sang a beam-raising song and shouted "Go ahead, good luck!"

During the process of raising the beam, the main beam should be lifted up steadily, avoiding tilting it forward and backward or up and down.

After stabilizing the main beam, Cheng Dafu and his colleagues hung a red cloth bag filled with red dates, peanuts, rice, wheat, evergreen, etc. in the middle of the beam, symbolizing "blessings, wealth, longevity, happiness, and eternity."

Then the craftsmen wrapped the fruits, food, etc. in red cloth, and threw the cloth bags into the basket held up by Cheng Dafu with both hands while saying nice words. This process is called "receiving the bag", which means catching the treasure.

The most lively part of the beam-raising ceremony is "throwing the beam".

After Cheng Dafu "took the package", the craftsmen threw the prepared candies, peanuts, rice cakes, steamed buns, copper coins, etc. from the beam to the surroundings. Men, women, old and young who came to watch the fun scrambled for them. The more people came, the happier the boss was. This act was called "throwing the beam", which meant "money rolling in."

After the beams are thrown, everyone moves out of the new house and lets the sun dry the beams, which is called "drying the beams".

Finally, Chengjia Village held a banquet to entertain the craftsmen, helpers, and relatives and friends who came to celebrate, and distributed red envelopes.

At this point, the entire beam-raising ceremony is over.

After everyone had left, Cheng Dafu tied a stack of two-and-a-half-inch-high gold and silver paper at each end of a red rope and hung it on the beam where it would not be easily noticed.

The older generation said that one should make both big and small amounts of money, which means one should make both big and small amounts of money and not reject clients simply because the amount of money is small.

The brick factory's beam-raising ceremony was grand and lively. The people who came to join in the fun came with excitement and left with joy.

This beam-raising ceremony left a deep impression on the suffering people. Even many years later, people still talked about it with relish when they occasionally recalled the past.

After the beams were in place, the craftsmen started to build the roof after eating and drinking their fill. They first nailed a wooden frame on the roof and then covered it with tiles. With more people there is more strength, and the work was fast.

After the beam raising was completed, Boss Cheng couldn't wait to return to the valley under the protection of everyone.

After several days of trial and error, Old Man Cheng has already made two threshers. He is just waiting for Boss Cheng to bring back the parts from the blacksmith shop and assemble them to confirm whether they have been made successfully.

After the parts were installed, Boss Cheng couldn't wait to step on the pedal of the thresher.

Boom boom boom~

A roar sounded and the threshing wheel began to spin madly.

Cheng Laosi quickly cut a handful of rice seedlings from his own field, grabbed a handful and put them on the threshing wheel.

Wow wow~

The rice grains on the rice seedlings were instantly knocked into the trunk.

When I picked up the rice ears, I saw that they were clean and not even a grain of rice was left.

It worked!

Everyone present witnessed this moment and was ecstatic.

Everyone was scrambling to give it a try.

Old man Cheng stroked his beard calmly, his face trembling slightly, betraying his equally uneasy mood.

"Brother Sanfu, my family also wants one, I'll pay for it!"

Some people reacted quickly and did not fight with others for the thing. Instead, they came over and pulled Old Man Cheng away.

Others also reacted after hearing the sound.

"My family wants one too, I'll buy it too!"

"I also want!"

"And my house, how much is it? I'll go back and get the money now."

"Yes! Yes, take the money, I'll go get the money too!"

"........"

People rushed to sign up, fearing that they would be left behind.

"Don't worry, don't worry, we have them, everyone has them. My boss has asked the blacksmith shop to make the parts, and I also know how to make them.

But now time is tight and the task is heavy. I don't have time to go up the mountain to select wood. I need you to cut the wood and peel the bark yourself. In addition, a few people who know a little about carpentry can help me. Whether you will be paid or not will be discussed later."

As soon as Old Man Cheng finished speaking, the crowd dispersed and went up the mountain to chop wood. Everyone wanted to be the first to finish.

Liu and Wang also learned that their maternal families were in Pingyang County. They couldn't help but hug each other and cry with joy.

Especially Wang, who was very grateful to be Liu's sister-in-law at this moment. If it weren't for the Liu family's help, perhaps the Wang family would have been destroyed now.

"Sister-in-law, wuwuwu..., thank you! Thank you Liu family!"

Liu was also very proud of her family. If Pingyang County was not too far away and the journey back and forth was not time-consuming, and if they had not been too busy with housework during this period and could not leave, she would have wished she could grow wings and go see them right now.

I can only find time to make a few pairs of shoes at night, and ask Boss Cheng to bring them to them when he goes to Pingyang County again in a few days.

After Cheng Lao Da came back, he took Cheng Lao Si to busy himself with building the roof of their own house. They had already chosen a good day to put up the roof beams. Many families in the village who had built smaller houses had already finished building them and moved in.

In their family, Old Man Cheng is busy researching threshers, Cheng Zeli will take an exam next month and has no time due to his heavy academic workload, Second and Fifth Chengs cannot leave Pingyang County, leaving only Fourth Cheng, who has to run up and down the mountains from time to time to help wherever needed.

Oh, there are also a few women who do the laundry, cook, take care of the children, feed the pigs, rabbits, chickens and ducks.

I am so busy with the housework every day that I can’t even take care of the new house.

Only Boss Cheng could find time to do this job. All the old masters in the village who were free also came to help. Some nailed the wooden frames, and some laid the tiles. It took three days to complete the roof.

You just need to clear the construction waste in the house and you can move.

After the house was built, Cheng Lao Da was urged to go to Pingyang County to get parts for the thresher. Before leaving, he was carrying bags full of things that Liu and Wang had prepared for their families.

When Cheng Xingwan heard that everyone was injured, in order to avoid any accidents, she asked Li to fill a large bag of spiritual spring water for Cheng Lao Da.

Recently, the Lingquan water seems to be sweeter and more effective. Just apply a little on small wounds and they will be fully healed the next day.

Maybe it’s because there have been a lot of job openings recently, which has helped some people get jobs with their household registration, so this merit can also be attributed to her.

Boss Cheng left under everyone's urging, and Old Man Cheng decided to move to a new home when Boss Cheng came back.
