The years I was in the human world

Chapter 4: The Old Friend

When he woke up from a drunken stupor at the end of the year, he didn't have a splitting headache like a hangover, but being inexplicably moved from the warm pool to the bedroom was enough to make him feel troubled.

Sui Miao sat up from the bed, and the quilt covering his body slipped down, revealing his fair body. After discovering that he was not wearing any clothes, Sui Miao's face became a little gloomier. He was wondering who was so rude as to break in like that. He didn't believe that his group of fairy children would dare to let anyone in without his permission.

Sui Miao, looking unhappy, put on his clothes, his hair casually spread out. He walked to the front hall and called the fairy boy to ask, "Did anyone visit me yesterday?"

The fairy boy answered quickly: "Yaosu God came here, but left after hearing that you didn't want to see guests."

Leaving? He didn't leave at all, he just climbed over the wall and became an outsider.

Sui Mo thought to himself, but he had other things to do today and had no time to investigate Yao Su's misbehavior.

At the end of the year, he managed to dress himself up to meet guests, and then went to the main hall to receive the visitors who had come early in the morning.

The person who came was naturally not Yao Su, but the main person involved in the incident that year - Ke Qin.

Although Xiao Yueheng's death was caused by both natural and man-made disasters, he would not have died so tragically if Ke Qin had not interfered. Therefore, although Sui Miao did not have an irreconcilable conflict with Ke Qin, she did not necessarily dislike him.

"..." Sui Miao sat down in front of the desk without saying a word. Because he didn't like Ke Qin, he was too lazy to even put on a show and didn't ask anyone to prepare tea.

Compared to Tai Huang, who had accumulated a lot of prestige, Ke Qin was much more tactful. Even when he was neglected by Sui Miao, he could still maintain a hypocritical and polite smile on his face. He also sat down in front of Sui Miao and greeted him like an old friend: "After so many years, you are still the same."

"I don't think our relationship is good enough for us to sit down and talk calmly." Sui Miao said coldly. He had heard a little about Ke Qin's reputation. Tai Huang was strict and harsh, but Ke Qin was relatively gentle and appropriate in dealing with people. He had a good reputation among the gods, but - Sui Miao raised his eyes and stared into Ke Qin's eyes. There were too many concerns and calculations in them. It might be true that he was gentle to others, but that was not necessarily his nature.

"If you have something to say, just say it directly. Why go around in circles?" Sui Miao said bluntly. He had seen how gentle Xiao Yueheng was, so he became even more disgusted with Ke Qin's pursuit of fame and reputation, and his words were filled with disgust.

"Why do you have to be so wary of me?" Ke Qin put a scroll of silk on the table. Sui Miao had a good memory. This was the scroll that Tai Huang had thrown at his feet yesterday. Ke Qin's expression was still calm. "You and I both know the right and wrong of the past. It's clearly over. Why bring it out and disturb the peace of the entire Buzhou Mountain? Don't you agree?"

"Didn't Taihuang decide to protect you? Why do you have to come and talk to me in person?" Sui Miao said sarcastically, and reached out to touch the scroll to read it. The content on it was almost the same as he guessed, or it was similar to the method used to convict Xiao Yueheng back then. Sui Miao took a general look at the content of the scroll and couldn't help laughing, "Sue me for evil spirits entering my body and my colleagues. What an unoriginal method. Where's the evidence?"

Sui Mo casually threw the opened silk book back onto the table, supported himself on the table with one hand and stood up, looking at Ke Qin with disgust: "Although I am unknown, I am not a child that you can manipulate. It is naive to want to silence me based on these fabricated charges."

"Your Majesty is a smart man. Since you dare to write on silk, these charges are certainly not fabricated." Ke Qin lowered his eyes and smiled, then raised his eyes to meet Sui Miao's cold and sharp gaze, without any fear. He tapped the spread silk book with his fingertips and informed Sui Miao in a gentle tone, "I didn't come here today to negotiate with you - after all, the evidence is conclusive, so of course we have to arrest the murderer."

"Arrest the murderer? This is such an obvious murder to silence the witness. Do you and Tai Huang think that the gods and Xiao Jin are fools?" Sui Miao sneered. Tai Huang was busy covering up, and this Ke Qin rushed to take the blame for him. Isn't this an attempt to cover up the truth?

"Xiao Jin is not a fool, he is very smart." Ke Qin said, otherwise that guy would not deliberately kick the Beihong Mirror to break it, misleading Taihuang and making him let down his guard.

But Ke Qin is worthy of being the Human Emperor, and his mind is more thoughtful than Tai Huang. He thought about it for a moment and figured out something was wrong. Xiao Jin was probably secretly planning to bring down both him and Tai Huang. Of course, he was not stupid enough to confess by coming here today to make trouble.

Anyway, he was the mastermind behind the murder of Xiao Yueheng, so it wouldn't matter if he silenced Sui Miao now. But as long as Sui Miao was dead, no matter how unwilling Xiao Jin was, he would not be able to convict them. The worst result would be that he, Ke Qin, would be responsible for his own actions, and Tai Huang would definitely not be implicated, which would be much better than if Sui Miao revealed the facts and both of them were convicted together.

Sui Miao looked at Ke Qin in silence, as if he didn't care about what he said at all. Ke Qin was not angry at his indifference, but still smiled with a good temper. Then he took out Sui Miao's arrest warrant from his sleeve and read it. After reading it, his eyes turned completely cold when he looked at Sui Miao: "Plead guilty, Sui Miao."

As soon as Ke Qin finished speaking, a large number of heavenly soldiers holding sharp weapons suddenly rushed into the outside of Yuluan Palace. The fairy children who had always been afraid of him now all hid behind the intruder, their eyes flickering and they dared not look directly at Sui Miao.

"You flatter me." Sui Miao sighed softly. Seeing this scene, what else did he not understand? It was likely that when the news of Xiao Jin's resurrection came, Ke Qin had been planning to kill him. He had fabricated charges against him long ago and even bribed a few insignificant servants in his palace.

Even in such an unfavorable situation, Sui Miao did not show any panic. He even straightened his wrinkled clothes and tied up his hair. Then he looked up at Ke Qin who looked confident. His crow-like eyelashes lowered and raised, and he smiled lightly, full of mockery: "Even Taihuang in its heyday could not do anything to me, Ke Qin, you are too arrogant."

Before he could finish his words, a snowy storm suddenly raged outside the Yuluan Palace. The fierce gale poured in from the door like a blade. Many heavenly soldiers were unable to dodge and were chopped into pieces. Their broken bodies directly turned into spiritual energy and returned to heaven and earth. Not a single bone was left of them.

But at the end of the year, the ferocious gale instantly turned into a gentle breeze, surrounding him like an obedient pet, protecting him from any harm.

The panicked fairies wanted to escape, but they did not expect that the walls and ceiling of Yuluan Palace were all covered with thick ice at some point. It was extremely cold and hard, and indestructible. They immediately turned around and knelt down towards Sui Miao, knelt down and begged, crying that they were momentarily bewitched and prayed that the God would spare them. But before they could finish their begging for mercy, a sharp gust of wind swept over and turned them into a ball of spiritual energy.

Soon, everyone in Yuluan Palace was killed or injured. Ke Qin had great magical power and could withstand the strong wind, but it didn't mean he was in a better situation. Sui Miao sat there leisurely, his expression didn't change at all: "Ke Qin, you like to play with human nature, but I don't care about other people's life and death at all?"

Ke Qin tore off the hem of his clothes and bandaged the wound on his right arm that was accidentally caused by the strong wind. He bit one side of the cloth with his teeth and tied a knot. He moved his right arm to make sure it was still flexible. Then he looked at Sui Miao with pity, and then began to recite the magic formula. Then, he summoned a long sword from the void.

The moment he saw the sword, Sui Miao's pupils shrank.

"Looks familiar, right? This sword took Xiao Yueheng's life. It's stained with divine blood and has evil spirits. I'm afraid you can't stand it." Ke Qin had expected his reaction. He unsheathed the sword. Even though it had been put aside for a thousand years, it was still as sharp as before. The sword was glowing coldly and was faintly surrounded by evil spirits. It was a fierce sword. "Sui Mo, if you really didn't care about other people's lives, why did you get into trouble today?"

The Moon-Slaying Sword was Xiao Yueheng's sword back then. It was originally just an ordinary weapon, but later because it killed its master, it was tainted with evil spirits and completely turned into a sword for killing gods, hence the name "Moon-Slaying Sword".

"You are simply ridiculous!" Sui Miao put away his contempt and stared at the evil sword with full vigilance. Once this thing was unsheathed, there would be bloodshed. The slightest mistake would lead to a disaster of rivers of blood. In order to kill him, Ke Qin even unsealed this thing and took it out.

"After all, apart from the Moon-Slaying Sword, I really can't think of any other means to succeed in one fell swoop." Ke Qin's tone was still respectful, as if he was a very polite junior, but he had already drawn his sword and was attacking Sui Miao with great momentum. Before the sword reached him, the evil spirit contained in it was already able to pass through the flesh and cut the soul.

Sui Miao reacted very quickly and dodged with shadow steps. His body flashed and he instantly landed on a high place in the palace. The wide sleeve of his left arm was cut in the middle, and half of his jade-white arm was exposed. Sui Miao stood on a high place and looked at Ke Qin who changed his moves and attacked again. He did not control the sword very well, and there was a brief delay between his moves. Perhaps, that was his opportunity.

Sui Miao did not dare to use his flesh and blood body to take the attack of the Moon-Slaying Sword. He had drunk enough divine blood and evil spirits. As long as he was touched by its sword energy, it would be fatal to his divine body. The evil spirits would infect his soul through the wounds and then give birth to evil spirits. Evil spirits are not demons, nor are they evil ghosts. Evil spirits are a god that has been subtly changed beyond recognition. However, they all have one thing in common: they are cruel, bloodthirsty, but corrupt and rotten.

At the moment when Ke Qin hesitated in his attack, Sui Miao clenched a ball of extremely cold air in his palm and blasted it towards his chest mercilessly. The other party wanted to kill him, so he naturally would not show mercy. But the next second, a look of surprise appeared on his face - his attack failed, and along with the sound of jade shattering, a broken white jade hairpin fell from Ke Qin's arms to the ground, breaking into pieces.

Sui Miao recognized that thing. It was the jade hairpin that was snatched away by Xiao Taohua from Hua Chao earlier. He didn't know why it appeared on Ke Qin's body, but that didn't matter anymore. His own magic weapon blocked his attack and he failed. Ke Qin did not die as expected, and naturally, the Moon-Slaying Sword pierced his chest with the momentum of destroying the world.

Ke Qin held the hilt of the sword and rubbed it against his chest, but there was no need to do so, because his heart was cut into a handful of blood by the sword energy the moment the sword pierced through it. Ke Qin sheathed the sword, and his chest was no longer blocked. Blood splattered, staining his clothes red. He fell to the ground from a height, and his blood dyed the snow red again.

There was quite a fight going on in Yuluan Palace. As soon as Ke Qin and Sui Miao started fighting, Xiao Jin and Yao Su who were far away in Zhaoyang Palace received the news.

"Ke Qin went to find Sui Miao, bringing heavenly soldiers with him. I'm afraid something might happen to that old god." Yao Su closed the document he was reading halfway, his eyelids twitching inexplicably. He didn't bother to look for his sword that was buried in the vast amount of files and documents, and pulled Xiao Jin, who looked tired, to rush towards Yuluan Palace.

Qinghe stood under the vermilion courtyard wall, looking up worriedly in the direction of Yuluan Palace. She thought, I hope nothing can go wrong.

Hua Chao had just executed a little fairy. The pink peach petals mixed with blood fell to the ground, looking particularly shocking.

The other fairies stood by and watched in fear, not daring to speak. This was the first time their master was so angry. His usually tolerant face seemed to freeze into ice, and he warned them sternly, "If you continue to betray your master, you will all end up like this."

"...There's no need to rush. Once the evil sword is unsheathed, there's no doubt that he will die." Xiao Jin suddenly spoke before they reached the Yuluan Palace. Yao Su's heart skipped a beat when he heard this, but he still felt that it was better not to jump to conclusions.

"Senior sister, go collect his body first." Xiao Jin seemed certain that Sui Miao would die, but he had no intention of stopping him. He briefly explained the next matters and turned to ask for a warrant to arrest Ke Qin. "Ke Qin is abusing private punishment this time. Sui Miao's body is his evidence. Even if the old case cannot be settled, today's incident is enough to skin him alive."

The last sentence was said without any sadness or joy, as if the death of a god was of no importance. Yao Su looked at the indifferent young man with a complicated expression and said "hmm" softly.

Requesting for an arrest warrant is just a formality. The real meaning behind it is that Xiao Jin is declaring to all the gods that I am going to deal with Taihuang God, who is revered by all of you, and I am going to start with my confidant Ke Qin.

Even though he knew Sui Miao's ending from Xiao Jin in advance, it was still not as shocking as seeing it with his own eyes. When Yao Su arrived, Ke Qin had just pulled the evil sword out of Sui Miao's chest. The god's body floated like snowflakes and finally fell to the ground, his eyes staring up at the sky with empty eyes.

Yao Su suddenly felt that he was very pitiful, all alone. Tai Huang wanted to kill him, and Xiao Jin only wanted to get the truth from him, but didn't care about his life or death. Looking at Sui Miao's lifeless face, Yao Su couldn't help but mutter to himself: "What a failure, old God."

Ke Qin was not doing well either. He was hit back by the Moon-Slaying Sword and was half-kneeling on the ground. He raised his hand to wipe the blood from his mouth and said to the gods who were watching, especially Yao Su: "At the end of the year, the Snow God had an evil spirit enter his body and killed his colleagues. He refused to cooperate when he was arrested and went on a killing spree. He has now been executed."

When these words were spoken, the gods were in an uproar, but no one questioned it. After all, Sui Mo was dead, and no matter whether there was any trick or not, there was no need to offend Ke Qin and Tai Huang behind him for a dead man.

Yao Su glanced at the gods who were whispering to each other and felt bored with their cold and indifferent faces. He then turned his gaze to the blood-stained face of Sui Miao who was lying on the ground. This group of hypocritical gods were not as adorable as Sui Miao who was hiding in the warm pool and drinking wine secretly, pretending to keep strangers away.

But the man on the ground had pale and bloodless red lips, and his drunken eyes, which were as bright as autumn waves in the hot spring, were also dull. Yao Su still liked the way he looked when he was alive. Although he was also cold, it was better than his current lifeless appearance.

Somehow, Yao Su suddenly felt a little sad. He squatted down and picked the man up, not even minding the blood on Sui Miao's body. Xiao Jin asked him to collect the body, but he thought that this guy was so cold and arrogant, he shouldn't be left dead in the open.

The moment Yao Su picked up the man, the temple collapsed, along with the red osmanthus tree in the backyard and the warm pool under the tree, all turned into ruins. At the end of this year, he was truly dead.
