Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 108 Stubborn Dutch
Ten minutes is neither long nor short.
Lin Yan held a pocket watch in his hand, leaned against the wooden door frame of the church, and looked at the passers-by leisurely.
There were several large caravans arranged in a semicircle on the open space east of the church. They looked like the predecessors of modern RVs or mobile trailers, but judging by the decay of their wheels, they had not been moved for many years.
While waiting, Lin Yan checked the time from time to time. In a blink of an eye, fifteen minutes had passed. During this time, only one lady tried to enter the church, but Lin Yan asked her to go back on the pretext that the church was under renovation.
Seeing that Gwen Hughes still hadn't come out, Lin Yan muttered quietly: "He still hasn't come out, could he have run away..."
Thinking that the other party might take the opportunity to escape, Lin Yan could not stay any longer. He put away his pocket watch and walked quickly towards the cemetery behind the church.
Only when he saw the half-body of Gwen Hughes preparing to open the coffin lid from afar did Lin Yan slow down his pace and completely feel relieved.
"Is there anything valuable?" After approaching, Lin Yan asked Gwen Hughes who had already opened the coffin lid.
"Here." Gwen Hughes threw something to Lin Yan. "The stone on this brooch should be a diamond. This alone is enough to pay off the debt."
Lin Yan took the brooch, and although he didn't know how to identify it, he still held it up high and looked at it in the sunlight. Then, he put the brooch into the space bag. After seeing the system named the item "diamond brooch", he nodded to Gwen Hughes and said, "The item is fine, we are even."
Then, he pointed to the messy grave and the broken coffin next to him and said, "Hurry up and restore this place. I'll help you guard it for a while."
He helped Gwen Hughes guard the door for a while until he appeared again, and then Lin Yan left with peace of mind.
After riding his horse back to the camp and handing the brooch to Leopold, Lin Yan had half a day of leisure time.
At noon, Lin Yan noticed that Micah quickly finished his portion while complaining about the bad food Pearson cooked. After the meal, this guy started to chat up the female members in the camp one by one, except Tilly and Molly.
Among those who were approached, the young women generally had a bad attitude towards him. On the other hand, the older women, Aunt Susan and Mrs. Bell, were quite attracted by Micah's sweet words, and Mrs. Bell was even amused by him and laughed.
At around one o'clock in the afternoon, Lenny, who had been taking Arthur out, came back driving a carriage. In the back of the carriage was a load of ammunition, including guns and a large amount of explosives.
According to Lenny, he found a hidden estate called Shady Belle a few days ago, south of the Caliga Plantation, near the Lanahechee River. The estate has been abandoned, and the Lemoyne Raiders have occupied that place and are engaged in arms smuggling business there. He asked Arthur to accompany him this morning to rob the arms there. Apparently, he succeeded. As a local gang, the Lemoyne Raiders suffered a great loss from the Van der Linde Gang again.
"Lenny, where is Arthur? Didn't he go with you?" Dutch waited patiently for him to finish speaking before asking.
"Oh, just now when we passed by Roz, Arthur said he had something else to do, so he separated from me."
After hearing this, Dutch nodded, said to Hosea, "I'll leave it to you," and returned to the tent.
Not long after Dutch entered the tent, Lin Yan heard a violent quarrel breaking out inside.
"I've never met a woman who asks so much. It's always what you want. Have you ever considered me?"
"Why didn't I consider you? You have no idea what I need."
Dutch was obviously so angry that he laughed a few times before saying, "You are too selfish. Do you know how much pressure I have endured for the bounty of my head?"
"But you never let me help you! I wanted to help you, but how did you do it, Dutch? You always pushed me away."
"As long as you don't bother me, you're helping me. There are times when I just want to think by myself instead of listening to a woman's so-called advice."
"Dutch van der Linde, you're a jerk!"
After saying this, Molly opened the tent and ran to the lake with tears on her face. Marybeth and Tilly, who also heard the quarrel, surrounded her at the same time to prevent her from getting upset.
After a while, Dutch also came out and sat by the tent, smoking a cigar. People who knew his temper all chose to ignore him subconsciously, and no one tried to dissuade him. From this moment on, the entire camp fell completely silent.
The suffocating silence was not broken until Arthur arrived.
"Dutch!" After Arthur handed the horse to Kieran, he walked towards Dutch without stopping.
"How's the matter going?" Dutch threw away his almost burnt cigar and asked in a deep voice.
Arthur shook his head. "I found Josiah's caravan as you said, but he wasn't there. There were no signs of it being rummaged through, and he didn't seem to have come back between last night and this morning."
"I suspect he encountered some trouble during the investigation, but this also indirectly shows that Colm must have some ulterior motive for suddenly looking for you. Otherwise, we should not go." He gave his opinion.
Before Dutch could make his decision, Micah came up and interrupted, "When we weren't completely sure it was a trap, we agreed and then went back on our word. Colm could laugh at Dutch for this for the rest of his life. I wouldn't do that if it were me."
"Besides, even if they have an ambush, what can we do? With a sharpshooter like you protecting us, the three of us can definitely escape unscathed with our own strength. You know what kind of idiots Colm's men are."
Micah's provocation was perfect. Arthur wanted to retort, but Dutch stood up and said, "Micah is right. Even if this is Colm's trap, so what? I have never been afraid of him in these years, and this time is no exception."
"Arthur, go eat something first, and we'll leave right after you finish eating."
The peace talks with Colm were settled, and everyone except Micah had a worried look on their faces, but Dutch had made his decision and there was nothing others could do.
During this period, Lin Yan secretly asked Hosea if he could send a few people to follow Dutch secretly and protect them, but Hosea rejected the idea.
"Jamie, you just joined and don't understand many things yet. You know, the most important thing for a gang is not how powerful each member is, but unity. As the leader of the gang, Dutch's decisions are orders. If we don't even listen to his orders, then what prestige does Dutch have as a leader? Once people's hearts are scattered, the gang will soon be torn apart."
