Wilderness Redemption Tour
Chapter 70 Tracking
After the wooden box covering the bottom of the car was removed, a woman and two teenagers came into view.
The woman looked to be in her twenties, and the two children beside her, the older girl was estimated to be 11 or 12 years old, and the other boy was much younger, only three or four years old. Although they were of different ages, all three of them had terrified faces and were trembling.
Thinking that the strangers in front of her were ready to attack, the woman held the gun and trembled, aiming here and pointing there, but she never had the courage to pull the trigger.
"Oh... don't be afraid... relax... take it easy... we mean no harm..."
Arthur and Charles, who were closest to them, slowly retreated while trying to comfort them. During this time, they put their guns back into their waists to indicate that they had no intention of hurting them.
"Hey...don't be afraid. The people who wanted to hurt you are gone."
When Sadie saw that it was a woman and two children, she also spoke to comfort them.
At certain times, nervous women are more willing to trust their own sex more.
The woman hiding under the car saw that Sadie, her same-sex partner, was also comforting her softly. After hesitating for a moment, she pushed open the wooden box in front of her with one hand and crawled out from under the car with her two children.
She did come out, but she still held the old double-barreled shotgun in her hand, with the muzzle slightly downward.
Seeing that the other party was still wary of him and his group, Arthur waved his hand impatiently: "You are safe now. This place is not suitable for you to camp. If you are fine, pack up and leave."
The woman's throat moved slightly, and she swallowed to moisten her throat, then she spoke:
"\u0026%¥..."
Hearing the strange language coming out of the woman's mouth, Lin Yan and his group stared in amazement, all standing there in a daze.
"She...what did she just say?" Sadie looked at Arthur beside her.
Arthur shook his head and said nothing.
Seeing that no one in the group responded, the woman stuttered out a word: "German... German..."
"German?" Everyone understood the word, but the unanimous response to the woman was to shake their heads. None of them knew German, even Lin Yan, who had a system. The character he played, Jamie Custer, was a real American who could only understand English.
"Sorry, no one here speaks German, you should take them away quickly." Arthur waved his hand again and turned to leave. He came out with an important mission today, and he didn't have extra time to waste on these irrelevant things.
Seeing Arthur was about to leave, the older girl behind the woman leaned forward and said in unfluent and crying English: "They took my father away, please... please save him..."
Hearing the little girl looking for someone, Lin Yan pointed to the river next to him and said, "There is a man in the river over there. I don't know if he is your father, but he is dead."
The girl shook her head. "No, that man is... a guide."
"What about your father? Where was he taken?" Charles asked softly and patiently.
"Over there." The girl pointed to the south.
After hearing this, Charles put the index fingers of both hands into his mouth and blew a loud and short whistle.
Seeing Charles's actions, Arthur dissuaded him: "Charles, we still have a mission, and the people in the gang are waiting for us to find a good place to move. We don't have time to help them now?"
This time, Charles rejected Arthur's opinion in an uncharacteristic way. He looked into Arthur's eyes and said slowly but firmly, "Those people just left not long ago. Now is the best time to track them down. Can you bear to see such a young child lose his father? Arthur, you are not such an inhuman person."
In the tense atmosphere, Lin Yan looked at the crying girl and the boy who was hugging the girl's thigh tightly. He walked slowly to Charles' side and said with a serious look in his eyes: "I also think we should help them."
He had personally experienced the feeling of losing a loved one, and he could still empathize with the loneliness, helplessness and despair at the beginning.
Sadie didn't say anything, but the fact that she stood firmly beside Lin Yan showed that she also thought she should help.
Seeing that no one supported him, Arthur no longer insisted.
He shook his hands and said helplessly, "Ah...Okay! Three to one, I'll listen to you."
"Da da da..."
At Charles' call, the four horses trotted briskly to their respective masters. Arthur climbed on the horse and calmly commanded as if nothing had happened, "Charles, you are the best at tracking. It depends on you whether we can find the person."
"No problem, leave it to me!" Charles rode on his gray spotted Appaloosa, stared at the traces left by the robbers, and followed decisively.
After returning to the river bank, Lin Yan and the other two followed Charles all the way west without stopping, until two forks appeared in front of them.
The road forked beside a railroad track, and here Lin Yan recognized the old Greenbank Mill in the Lumei Creek not far away, which meant that the railway in front of them was the one they had just come from.
With a serious attitude, Charles dismounted and carefully identified the traces on the road, then pointed to the fork on the left.
"This way!"
The few of them walked along the path for a short distance, and after turning a corner, a lake appeared before them.
Seeing the vast lake, Arthur joked, "It seems that our colleagues are planning to camp by the lake."
As he approached the shore, Charles slowed down again. The gravel on the lakeside made it difficult to identify the traces left by previous travelers.
This time, Charles walked back and forth twice before he confirmed through fresh horseshoe prints in the mud that the group of people had gone south.
After confirming the direction, everyone sped up.
Since those people walked by the lake, it means that their camp is somewhere by the lake ahead. Even if there are no traces left by that group of people here, they can still find them.
Lin Yan thought that he would be able to find the group of people by walking along the lake, but as he walked, there was suddenly no road ahead. Just when he thought Charles had taken the wrong path, Charles took the lead and plunged into the forest next to him.
The soil near the lake was slightly moist, which allowed Lin Yan to clearly see that there were indeed several clear horse hoof prints here. It seemed that he had misunderstood Charles just now.
The forest in front of them was a small raised mound. After walking a few steps, they saw a small path. There were some scattered vegetation on the path. In the middle of the path, a few unknown small flowers lay on the path, as if they had just been stepped on.
Charles was also silently observing the surrounding environment. Looking at the dense woods around him, he nodded slightly and said, "This place is very hidden. The person we are looking for should be just ahead."
