Wilderness Redemption Tour

Chapter 88 On the right track

The next morning, when the air filled with the strong aroma of coffee floated above Lin Yan and he smelled it, he opened his eyes in an instant.

Ever since he tasted that cup of "go-to" coffee last time, he had a stress reaction to the taste, and since then, he began to subconsciously stay away from this national drink.

"Ha~~~"

Arthur yawned and sat up from the bed when he smelled the coffee. He drank too much like everyone else last night, and now he was still hungover and needed a cup or several cups of coffee to relieve the symptoms.

After saying good morning to Lin Yan who also had his eyes open, Arthur put on his shoes and ran straight to the coffee pot beside the campfire.

Lin Yan, who originally wanted to stay in bed for a while, saw that Arthur had already gotten up, so he didn't want to lie down any more. After getting up, washing his face and rinsing his mouth, he saw Sadie sitting on the cypress tree trunk with Marybeth, admiring the lake view, by the lake where he had talked with Hosea yesterday.

Marybeth was wearing a dark brown wool coat, while Sadie, who was sitting next to her, was wearing a dark green long skirt, which was unusual today. This was quite a contrast to her usual shirt and trouser combination, so much so that when Lin Yan saw her for the first time, he thought it was Karen sitting there.

Scratching his head, Lin Yan walked over and stood not far behind them.

Marybeth heard the noise and looked back.

"Hi! Jamie! Good morning!" A cheerful greeting came from Marybeth's mouth.

"Good morning!" Lin Yan replied simply and politely.

Sadie, who was sitting next to him, heard Lin Yan's brief answer and couldn't help but hold her forehead with her left hand and sighed silently.

After putting her hand down, Sadie said to Marybeth with a smile, "Marybeth, go and do your thing. I'll use this silly boy if you need anything."

"Okay then, you should be more careful." After giving Sadie a few words of advice, Marybeth stood up, smiled at Lin Yan, and walked back to the camp.

Sadie moved aside and said in a chatty tone: "Sometimes you should learn from Sean. A man who can make a woman happy is much more useful than a piece of wood."

Lin Yan walked to Sadie's side and was about to sit down. When he heard Sadie's words, he immediately remembered the scene he saw nearby last night.

"Uh..."

He wanted to say, "Do you think I don't want to?", but he felt that this was inappropriate, so he just nodded and said yes.

Hearing Lin Yan's perfunctory answer, Sadie thought he was just trying to get by. She sighed and decided not to discuss this topic anymore.

"Are you going to let me do something with you today after I'm 'injured'?" Sadie raised her right arm and asked stiffly.

Lin Yan heard the dissatisfaction in Sadie's words. He smiled awkwardly, touched his nose and said, "I didn't mean to force you to go out. If you feel it's inconvenient to go out, wait until your injury is healed before..."

Sadie didn't let Lin Yan continue. She shook her head and said in a tone of disappointment: "Alas! You can't hear the hidden meaning of others' words at all!"

"Forget it, I won't beat around the bush with you. What are your plans for today?"

Lin Yan stroked the smooth tree trunk with his fingers, looked at Sadie's right hand with a splint on her leg and said, "Walk to Rhodes, or I'll drive you to Saint Denis to pick up two horses."

"Let's go to Saint Denis first. Maybe we can meet your horse on the way."

Sadie bent over, picked up a pebble, stood up, shook it, and threw it into the lake. "Let's go and have breakfast."

Lin Yan was not good at speaking nice words, but he had good eyesight. Sadie's right hand was injured and she had difficulty moving, so he took the initiative to help her serve a bowl of oatmeal porridge cooked with corned beef, and scooped a few more pieces of beef for her.

After breakfast and before leaving, Lin Yan found Arthur and borrowed the square box-like camera from him.

"Are you going to look for the gunman in the photo? Isn't your horse gone?" Arthur asked casually while taking the camera.

"Sadie and I are going to Saint Denis to buy two more horses. I heard that the 'Black Beauty' lives near Saint Denis, so I'm going to try my luck."

"Go ahead, I've found two already, and they don't include 'Beauty in Black'."

Arthur took out the camera and handed it to Lin Yan, and also took out the photos of the four people.

"Emmett Granger," Arthur said, holding up a photo. "I've killed this annoying guy."

"I was kind enough to help him clean up the pig manure in order to get the information I wanted from him, but this bastard played a trick on me and made me volunteer for him without paying me anything. Oh, you don't know how thick the pig manure in his pigpen was. I shoveled three carts of manure! Three carts!"

"So you killed him?"

"No, he brought this upon himself. Ahem!" Arthur coughed twice and continued, "I worked for him, but he turned around and threatened me, so I took back the fruits of my labor and used explosives to evenly spread the pig manure in every corner of his farm."

Arthur smiled. "That guy must have been so mad that he actually took out a throwing knife to duel with me. The result is obvious."

No wonder he came back smelling horrible one day, that's how it happened...

Nodding secretly, Lin Yan asked, "Who is the other one?"

Arthur picked up another photo and said, "It's Billy Midnight."

"I found him on a train that stopped in Lodz. The station staff said he had been on the train for a long time. When I found this guy in the dining car, he was drunk and unconscious. I told him why I came, but he insisted that I was here to kill him. In the end, the drunk laughed, pulled out a gun, and shot himself."

"You haven't said anything yet. Is there something that can't be said?" Lin Yan asked doubtfully.

"Who knows." Arthur shrugged and handed the other two photos to Lin Yan.

"I don't think these two people will say anything. If you run into them, it's okay to just tell them to shut up without asking any questions. Just take a picture."

Arthur was going to help Sheriff Gray of Rhodes Town with some errands with Dutch today. After chatting for a few more words, he rode away with Dutch and Bill.

After getting the camera, Lin Yan first found Molly reading a book in Dutch's tent and borrowed a white gauze hat commonly worn by ladies from her.

The hat was for Sadie, and if she had been wearing a shirt and trousers today, he would have suggested that she change.

After finding Sadie and telling her the necessity of "disguise", Lin Yan repeated his itinerary: first go to the Blue Water Swamp to visit the "Beauty in Black", then have lunch in Saint Denis, and finally go to the stable to buy a horse. Sadie did not object.

The boxes on the carriage yesterday had been transferred to another carriage. When they were preparing to set off, Lin Yan saw Hosea and Lenny driving the carriage away from the camp.
