Chapter 94 Finding a Companion for You
After breakfast, Hosea took Lin Yan and set off.
Their destination was the Braithwaite Manor of the Braithwaite family, located just west of the town of Rhodes.
After setting off, Hexia asked Lin Yan why he brought the once powerful "Beauty in Black" into the gang, and whether it was because he had previously advised Lin Yan to stop and leave the gang.
When Lin Yan came, he guessed that Hosea would definitely ask him about this. After spending these days together, he thought he was more familiar with Hosea, so he said jokingly: "I always hear you talking about Bessie, Bessie, I thought maybe you want to find another companion when you get old, so fate made me meet Mrs. Bell, she happened to be a widow, and her age is also very compatible with you. I brought her into the gang on the one hand to strengthen our strength, and on the other hand for you, Hosea."
After saying that, Lin Yan raised his hand and patted Hosea on the shoulder, giving him an encouraging look.
Hosea immediately showed a helpless expression and said, "Then I really have to thank you very much. Thank you for finding me a woman who has been married six times but never divorced."
After Hosea's reminder, Lin Yan remembered that he had seen the corresponding information on the back of Mrs. Bell's photo.
He smiled at Hosea and said, "So you also know this... I think... maybe she just wanted to establish her own personality at that time, and didn't invest any feelings in her previous husbands..."
"Maybe they all died of illness..."
Hosea shook his head and said, "Forget it. No matter what, I don't want to be the seventh one. I always think it's good to be alone. Let's leave this opportunity to the uncle. I think he can get along well with that lady."
Hearing Hosea mention the uncle, Lin Yan recalled the scene he saw yesterday. He scratched his head and asked in confusion, "Did Mrs. Bell and the uncle know each other before? I noticed that they were talking in a mysterious way yesterday."
Hosea recalled and said, "Uncle was invited to join the gang by Dutch because he saved Dutch's life. As for his experiences before joining the gang..." At this point, he deliberately added, "They are real experiences, not those he made up while sitting by the campfire. He never mentioned those experiences, and he didn't even tell us his name. He just asked us to call him uncle. Can you understand? He looks only a little older than me, but I have to call him uncle."
When talking about how he addressed his uncle, Hosea seemed a little indignant.
"Okay, let's not talk about this for now." Hosea raised his hand and pointed to the lush oak trees in front of him and said, "The front is Braithwaite Manor. Try to speak as little as possible after you go in. Leave the negotiations to me."
"Yeah!" Lin Yan nodded seriously.
Following the direction of Hosea's finger, Lin Yan saw two rows of tall oak trees arranged neatly like guards. Under the shade of the oak trees, a straight tree-lined path led directly to a manor in the distance.
Looking at the scenery that could be used as wallpaper with just a casual shot, Lin Yan couldn't help but sigh: It's worthy of being a big family that has been entrenched here for hundreds of years. The style of this residence alone is more than ten blocks ahead of the Gray family.
The Gray family's estate is located in the Caliga Plantation. While waiting for Sadie that day, Lin Yan took a few glances at it from afar, but did not find anything remarkable.
Hosea drove along the tree-lined avenue between two rows of oak trees and arrived at the gate of the manor without any obstruction.
There were guards here. When they noticed a carriage coming, they waited in the middle of the road early. There were two guards on both sides of the gate with their guns aimed at the approaching people.
"Gentlemen, how are you?" Hosea stopped the carriage and took off his hat to greet them.
The guards blocking the middle of the road ignored his greetings. Two of them walked to the rear of the carriage. The guard standing in front asked, "What's in the back of the carriage?"
"It's moonshine, my friend. Will you let me have a word with the man of the house?"
"The owner of the house is a lady," the other party corrected, "Mrs. Catherine Braithwaite."
"Can I talk to him? I have a business opportunity I want to discuss with her." As he spoke, Hosea slowly took off the rifle from his back and signaled Lin Yan with his eyes to do the same.
"I have no ill intentions... I can leave my gun to you for safekeeping. I don't think you will embarrass two unarmed innocent people."
After one of the guards stepped forward and took the guns from Hosea and Lin Yan, the guard leader standing in the middle of the road said, "Okay... Go ahead, she's in the house ahead."
As he said this, he took two steps to the side and made way.
At this moment, Lin Yan felt the carriage sink. Turning back, he found a guard sitting at the rear of the carriage.
"I'll send someone to keep an eye on you. I hope you don't mind." The leading guard added.
"No problem." Hosea put on his dark blue western hat again and steered the carriage forward.
As soon as the carriage drove into the courtyard of the manor, Lin Yan saw the gate of the manor being pushed open. A lady wearing a purple long dress with lace and with a somewhat harsh face walked to the edge of the steps in front of the door, surrounded by several armed guards.
When Hosea's carriage came to a stop, she asked in a deep voice, "What are you doing here?"
Hosea said as he got out of the car, "I found something in the nearby mountains...I thought you might want to buy it."
The guard sitting behind the carriage trotted over to the hostess when the carriage stopped and whispered to her why Hosea had come.
The mistress of the manor raised her sparse eyebrows and said, "Buy? I won't spend money on something that already belongs to me."
"But in our opinion, they are all ownerless."
"After we got the wine, my assistant and I checked it carefully. I can guarantee with my life that there is no Braithwaite name or logo on it."
Hosea said this as he got out of the car and walked to the steps of the manor to face the hostess.
"Since you said this is yours, how about we make a deal? How do you sell this wine?"
"One dollar a bottle," Katherine Braithwaite said stiffly, her hands on her hips.
"Then we'll only be fifty cents."
"These wines are mine!"
"Then consider it as our reward for finding the lost property. How about that? This way you can still earn half of the original amount."
"Or I'll just shoot you." A middle-aged man in a dark double-breasted coat walked out from behind Catherine. He looked somewhat similar to Catherine. At this moment, he was pointing a gun and looking angrily at Hosea below.
Just as he was about to try, Catherine grabbed the barrel of his gun and said in a deep voice, "Pay him."
