A car accident, our family of three crossed
Chapter 20 Getting better
After having lunch that day and feeding Chu Rui half a bowl of porridge, Hang Shuheng went out and came back with a handful of grass roots.
"What are you digging up these grass roots for? Feeding pigs?" There's only a handful, not enough to feed pigs! Song Ning asked curiously.
"This is not for feeding pigs, it's for people to eat." Hang Shuheng said with a smile.
"Daddy, do you want to eat grass? You are not a cow or a sheep." Yang Yang said in surprise.
The innocent words of the child made both of them laugh. Hang Shuheng rubbed his little head and said, "This is actually a Chinese medicine."
He put the grass roots in a basin of water to wash them, pulled out a root and held it in his mouth, and then casually fed one to Yangyang. Yangyang took the opportunity to bite the grass root and chewed it, and exclaimed in surprise: "It's sweet."
"Really?" Song Ning couldn't help but pull one and taste it. It was indeed sweet. She looked at it carefully and said, "Isn't this the root of the thatch grass that is common by the river? What is its function?"
"Well, Imperata root has many benefits, the most important of which is that it can reduce fever." Hang Shuheng said as he sorted them out: "I'm worried that the man will have a fever again tonight, so I thought of digging some up and bringing them back for later use. It's better to be prepared."
"I didn't even know you knew Chinese medicine." Song Ning looked at him with an inquiring look, with a half-smile in his eyes.
"When I was doing field survival training in the army, I was with a military doctor. I could only identify some common and frequently used Chinese herbal medicines in the wild." He answered modestly, but the next moment he leaned close to Song Ning's ear to ask for praise, "How about it? Do you think I'm awesome?"
"You are so shameless." Song Ning scolded him, turned around and left, leaving him alone smiling narcissistically.
at night.
As Hang Shuheng expected, Chu Rui had a high fever again.
Hang Shuheng was busy cooling down physically, so Song Ning brought him some water boiled with Imperata roots and planned to feed it to him.
"After taking the medicine, the fever will go away faster."
While Chu Rui was dazed, he heard a gentle voice whispering and soothing him. He seemed to have returned to his childhood, when his mother would always soothe him patiently every time she was sick, which made him feel at ease.
He slightly opened his tightly pursed lips and obediently drank the bowl of potion.
Seeing him falling into sleep again in a daze, Song Ning couldn't help but feel a little worried.
“Will this really work?”
"Don't worry, this Chinese medicine won't work as quickly as Western medicine, but if you take it and combine it with physical cooling, the fever will go away, don't worry!"
Song Ning nodded and let out a long breath. In the past, when she was raising her child alone, she had stayed up all night to take care of the child who had a fever. She always felt like a huge rock was pressing on her chest, which was extremely depressing.
She took off the wet handkerchief on Chu Rui's forehead. The handkerchief was already warm. She soaked it in cold water and put a new handkerchief on it, repeating this process over and over again.
Since the whole body needed to be cooled physically, all clothes had to be removed. Song Ning could not stay and had to go back to the east room to rest.
Perhaps it was the effect of Imperata Root that Chu Rui's fever subsided much faster than the night before. He woke up early the next morning, and his spirits were much better than the day before.
When he woke up, Hang Shuheng was still asleep. Although there was some distance between the head and the foot of the kang, he could still clearly hear his even breathing.
He was not completely unconscious last night. In a state of half-sleep and half-wakefulness, he knew someone was wiping his entire body with a handkerchief without stopping. Although he did not quite understand this practice, he thought it should be a folk method of reducing fever.
This family was a total stranger to him. They knew that bringing a seriously injured person of unknown origin back home might cause trouble, but they still brought him back and took care of him meticulously.
Thinking of this, Chu Rui felt infinitely grateful.
However, when he thanked him again, the other party said:
"I just don't want another dead person in my family. It's unlucky."
Chu Rui laughed: "You could have just ignored it, but you didn't."
"I'm not afraid to tell you the truth. If I was the only one present at the time, I would not have meddled in other people's business." Hang Shuheng rested his head on his arm and sighed, "My wife and son are so kind-hearted! I can't just stand by and watch them die."
Chu Rui choked and was silent for a moment, then said depressedly: "You are such an unpleasant person."
Hang Shuheng smiled and said nothing. Suddenly, someone knocked on the gate outside. The two of them felt nervous and Hang Shuheng sat up subconsciously.
Just as I was about to go out to see what was going on, I heard Song Ning's voice.
"It's Mudun! Are you here to see Uncle Hengzi?"
"No." It was the voice of a young boy: "Aunt, my elder brother caught some fish in the river and asked me to bring two to you."
"Why don't you keep the fish for yourselves? Why are you sending them to me?"
"It's okay, Auntie. We still have some at home. My brother has caught several. Auntie, I'll go back now..."
As the child's voice faded away, the two people in the room relaxed.
Hang Shuheng couldn't help but sneer: "Don't you think we are too paranoid? I think if your enemies really come, they won't be so polite."
After that, they both fell silent until Song Ning pushed the door open and broke the silent atmosphere.
"Awake?" Song Ning brought breakfast.
Seeing this, Hang Shuheng quickly got down and took the tray from her, saying softly, "Thank you for your hard work! Was it Mudun who came just now?"
Song Ning helped to set the table and said with a smile, "It is said that Shuisheng caught some fish and sent us two. I think the fish are quite big. Let's have fish for lunch!" After setting the table, she nodded to Chu Rui and said, "Drinking fish soup will help the wound heal. Drink more when the time comes."
Chu Rui smiled gratefully in response: "Thank you very much!"
Song Ning shook her head and chuckled, then turned to Hang Shuheng and said, "You guys have breakfast, I'm going out."
"You should go and eat soon. Leave the fish here for a while and I'll deal with it later." Hang Shuheng held her shoulders and walked her to the door before returning.
"You value your wife very much." Chu Rui said affirmatively.
Hang Shuheng shrugged, not feeling embarrassed at all, and replied naturally: "Isn't the purpose of marrying a wife to be loved?"
Chu Rui was slightly stunned. He didn't expect the other party to admit it so generously and frankly. In his opinion, no matter how much a man values his wife, he will not say it verbally for the sake of face. It seems that saying it out loud will damage his face, but is it really so? Obviously not.
Because when Hang Shuheng generously admitted that he valued his wife, he did not ridicule her. He even felt that it was the right thing to do. It was a fact and he should say it that way.
As an outsider, he was really envious...
-
After the careful care of Hang Shuheng and Song Ning, Chu Rui had been lying on the kang for three days. His injuries gradually improved and he can now sit for a while on the soft bedding.
At this moment, he was sitting back and staring at Yangyang. Early in the morning, just as they woke up, the little guy came in.
After Hang Shuheng went out to help make breakfast, the little guy sat upright in front of the kang table, like a serious and obedient student, staring at Chu Rui with his curious eyes. Since Hang Shuheng left, the two of them had been staring at each other for a quarter of an hour.
Being stared at by such a pair of clean and innocent eyes, Chu Rui gradually revealed his embarrassment and was the first to give in. He cleared his throat and asked:
"Your name is Yangyang?" He remembered that the couple called him that.
"Yangyang is my nickname. My full name is Hang Zhengyang."
The pronunciation was clear and articulate, which surprised Chu Rui.
"Why are you staring at me? Is there something on my face?"
Yangyang shook his head and suddenly blurted out: "If someone can speak, he is not dumb? This is strange, why can't someone who can speak be dumb?" He thought with a distressed look on his face.
Chu Rui: ...
His smile froze on his face and his face turned dark in an instant.
This child looks as good as his father, but his mouth is as unpleasant as his father's. Such a good-looking face is wasted...
