Hard work pays off[Note 1]. In just a few days, the courtyards, drying yards, and shady places in the village were filled with all kinds of food.

A number of small animals were also captured, of which pheasants and hares were the most numerous, with a few wild spores [Note 2] scattered among them.

After discussion, they sent people to take them to the town, sold them all, exchanged them for food, and saved them up. Finally, they were divided among the members of the hunting team.

According to the village chief, we should buy as much as we can now while the grain prices are still within an acceptable range. When the grain prices go high in the future and it becomes uneconomical, it will not be too late to make the meat into jerky and store it.

Everyone had no objection to the village chief's decision. They only ate meat a few times a year, and the prey they hunted in the past few days was not enough for each of them to have two bites!

Besides, how could anyone not be dissatisfied when seeing their own granaries and cellars becoming increasingly full?

However, the village chief has set two mandatory requirements for everyone going up the mountain.

1. When you encounter irresistible danger, run if you can, but help each other as much as possible. Run together if you can, and don't harm others for your own benefit.

Second, there must be a limit to the collection, leaving some fire in the mountains, not sweeping away all the fire. Otherwise, let alone next year, if there is a drought and famine this year, without food, the beasts in the deep mountains and forests will come out to look for food, and their village will suffer.

Although the villagers don't understand any big principles, they still listen to advice when it comes to the safety of their families and the village.

Not long ago, a wild boar came down the mountain. More than a dozen men surrounded it and were injured. If they were really attacked by the beast, they would be doomed.

Even if we muster up the courage to go into the mountains now, we will be relying on the advantage of numbers.

About a hundred people, each holding a knife and a hoe, marched into the mountains in a mighty manner. The deterrent power of humans working together is still quite strong. Under normal circumstances, wild beasts will basically not actively attack them.

However, there are exceptions.

-

The baby was holding the soft steamed pear, nestled in Meng Huaishao's arms, and while grinding his teeth as he climbed up the mountain, he keenly heard the unusual noises on the mountain.

It seemed like the sound of the mountains shaking and wild beasts roaring.

The baby held the steamed pear in one hand and rubbed his ear with the other to make sure he had heard it correctly.

"GuoGuo! It's dangerous on the mountain!"

-

Deep mountains, outskirts.

Today's hunting team, as usual, circled a general area, patrolled the surroundings, and then began collecting.

But soon after it started, "boom boom" and "crackling" sounds came from the ground.

"Oh no! The wild boars are coming! The wild boars are coming!"

The alert man ran over quickly, sweat dripping from his forehead and a look of fear on his face.

"Wild boar?"

The eyes of the men and boys who had been collecting data for several days suddenly lit up. Are they finally getting a chance to show their talents?

Wild boar = meat! Lots and lots of meat!

"No, no! It's a group of wild boars! Run!"

The person who brought the news spoke the whole thing breathlessly, and immediately, everyone's face changed.

They wouldn't be afraid of one or two wild boars, but a group of wild boars...

Even lions and tigers would run away when they see it!

"Run!"

The village chief quickly called the villagers. He was the only older person in the collection team and also a patient person. After hearing the news, he immediately organized people to run away.

"Don't worry about those baskets of wild vegetables, just grab your weapons and run!"

"Run like hell!"

Seeing that some people were still packing up their things, the village chief stamped his feet in anxiety and shouted loudly.

Although when the wild boars come, all these things will be destroyed.

But when life is at stake, carrying a weapon can increase your chances of survival, while carrying a backpack will only affect your escape speed.

For a moment, some people holding knives held knives, some holding hoes held hoes, and some holding scissors ran away frantically.

Fortunately, they still remembered what the village chief said, that they should help each other, so they let the women and teenagers run in front, and the middle-aged and strong men consciously follow the rear.

However, the forest was too large, and there were more than a dozen wild boars in the herd. They were running rampant in the mountains at an extremely fast speed and would soon catch up with the hunting team.

As they watched the trees keep falling and the dust rising closer and closer, fear and exhaustion came over them.

"Quick! Run!"

The village chief was supported by his eldest son, and he gasped and commanded: "Protect the women and children and run!"

"Village chief, a wild boar is coming!"

The man who was left behind ran a few steps, caught up with the village chief, and reported the situation behind.

The village chief looked ahead and saw that there were much fewer trees than in the forest. Without trees blocking the road, the wild boars could run freely and they could not escape at all.

He gritted his teeth and said, "All men over 20, stop and set up the trip ropes! Stop the wild boar here!"

As soon as he finished speaking, all men and women who felt they had the strength stopped.

The man carrying the thick hemp rope quickly untied it, and several people worked together to run quickly between the trees.

The hemp rope was wrapped around the tree trunk, circle after circle, and finally tied into a tight knot.

By the time the wild boar in the front rushed up, the small forest where they were escaping was already densely covered with hemp ropes.

The wild boar bumped into the hemp rope, not knowing how to turn, and stubbornly used its head and teeth to push against it. Soon, the thick hemp rope could no longer hold up.

Seeing that the first piece of hemp rope was about to break, the men quickly raised their weapons and attacked!

The second one, the third one...

More and more people joined the battle, and the battlefield gradually became chaotic.

Soon, someone was injured.

The women, who were not good at fighting, took the risk of dragging the fallen person out, simply bandaged the wound with clothes, carried the person and ran away.

They may not dare to fight wild boars, but they are strong enough to run away with the injured.

If they were left lying there, they might be trampled to death in the melee between humans and wild boars!

Once someone took the lead, the remaining confused women suddenly came to their senses. They followed suit and kept an eye on the battlefield at all times. Once someone fell, they would rescue the person and run away.

Originally, the village chief asked them to run away with their children.

But the children are teenagers in their rebellious period, how could they obey and run away at this time?

Everyone was full of passion and rushed up to fight with weapons in hand. They used real swords and guns, and the blood was spurting everywhere. It was very scary.

The woman who didn't dare to fight the wild boar, nor could she abandon her family and relatives and run away alone, now that she realized her role, she became proactive.

However, no matter how united they are and how well they cooperate, the villagers are, after all, just ordinary people.

These wild boars are strong, thick-skinned, have sharp fangs, and are fearless of death. More and more people are injured, and the remaining people are under increasing pressure.

When people are exhausted and no longer have the strength to fight, that is the end of death for everyone present.

Thinking of this, everyone felt a chill in their hearts, and even their arms wielding weapons became weaker.
