Chapter 62: Prince Extra 02
3. Yong Zhang
The third prince, Yongzhang, whose biological mother was Concubine Su, was specially "spoiled" by the empress since childhood. The third prince, who was brought up by his biological mother's doting, had a temperament like his mother. He was stupid and mediocre, and was easily provoked. Both mother and son were disliked by the emperor.
With Yonglian, a legitimate son and extremely intelligent, around, neither Yongzhang nor Concubine Chun had any big ambitions.
It was not until Yonglian was diagnosed with asthma and was on the verge of death that Concubine Chun's mind became active. Concubine Chun urged the young Yongzhang to study hard. Seeing that Yongzhang was spoiled by Empress Fucha and did not like to study, the more Concubine Chun forced him to study, the less he wanted to study.
Later, as more princes came into the palace, the inconspicuous Yongzhang was gradually forgotten by the emperor.
If Concubine Chun had not been close to Ruyi, and the Emperor had not mentioned Yong Zhang once or twice when he was with Ruyi, I'm afraid the Emperor would have forgotten his son.
Yonglian died of illness, and the young Yongsheng was noticed by the emperor. Later, Empress Fucha gave birth to another legitimate son, but unfortunately he contracted smallpox and died.
Yongzhang was very sad that the emperor taught Yongsheng without him, but he could do nothing about it. Yongsheng was smarter than him, and his mother was favored, so he would naturally be noticed by the emperor.
Later, when Ruyi was released from the cold palace, Empress Fucha took the eldest prince under her name. The two brothers, one was favored and the other was a legitimate son, and Yongzhang was awkwardly caught between them.
As time went by, Yong Zhang discovered that his mother no longer forced him to study, and she must have given up that delusion.
Although Yong Zhang was not smart, he knew that unless all the other sons of the emperor's father died, it would be impossible for him to sit in that position.
After Ruyi came out, the harem became lively. First, the favored Jin Yuyan was deposed, Yongsheng was abandoned by the emperor and adopted by a prince, completely losing his qualifications as the crown prince. Later, Hailan was given poisoned wine, and Yongqi was raised by the empress dowager.
The Empress Dowager and the Emperor were not on good terms, and Yongqi was raised by the Empress Dowager. In the eyes of some people, Yongqi, the Fifth Prince, was rejected by the Emperor.
Yong Zhang and Concubine Chun were among those people.
Yongsheng and Yongqi were no longer a threat, and some fence-sitters in the harem began to admire Yongzhang. It was the first time that Yongzhang was paid attention to by so many people, and he was very proud. However, coupled with the ambition of his foolish mother, he lost his mind.
After the death of Empress Fucha, when the throne was vacant, at the instigation of the eldest prince, he blatantly asked the emperor to make his mother the empress.
Any prince with a bit of brains would not reveal his ambition so blatantly to the emperor, but the foolish Yong Zhang did just that. Because his behavior was too stupid, after the emperor asked a few questions, Yong Zhang betrayed Yonghuang.
The two brothers were given the title of "the most hated princes" by the emperor.
Both of them were granted Mongolian-born wives by Emperor Qianlong, which cut off their qualifications for succession to the throne.
Yong Zhang became depressed after being scolded by the emperor. After learning that his mother had poisoned the eldest prince Yonghuang and they both died, he spat out blood and died.
4. Yongrong
Ever since he could remember, Yongrong had always thought that his mother was Concubine Wan. It was not until one day when he overheard the palace maids' whispers that he learned that his biological mother was someone else and Concubine Wan was only his adoptive mother.
His biological mother was a noble lady, and like his adoptive mother, she was of Han descent. He was raised by Concubine Wan because his biological mother committed a crime.
When Yongrong learned about his origins for the first time, he felt a little depressed. He finally knew that his father would not even look at him no matter what.
He found a corner and cried secretly. When he was tired of crying, he fell asleep. When he woke up, he was carried back to Zhongcui Palace.
Yongrong felt very guilty when he saw his mother's anxious face. Although he was not his mother's biological son, his mother gave him almost all of her motherly love. How could he possibly make her worry?
His mother did not tell him about his biological mother, and Yongrong did not investigate either. He just quietly acted as a good son to his mother.
When he was a little older, the Emperor's health was not good, but he still often stayed in Concubine Rong's palace. When his mother heard about this, she always sighed and asked why the Emperor did not take care of his health.
Yongrong didn't hear his mother's sigh, and he felt a little more disgusted with this emperor father whom he seldom met.
Finally, the emperor died and his fifth brother succeeded to the throne. He and his mother moved into the main hall of Shoukang Palace.
The new emperor treated Yongrong very well and even hired a teacher to guide him in his studies.
Yongqi would not be as suspicious and suppressive of his brothers as the late emperor and his grandfather had been. He now only wanted to find a few more assistants to help him share the government affairs. Otherwise, sooner or later he would be like his grandfather, with no one to rely on and would die of exhaustion on the throne.
Yongrong was also very capable. He found a position that suited him and helped Yongqi manage the affairs of the Imperial Household Department. Two years later, he was named Prince Zhuang and later served as the president of the Siku Quanshu.
After Yongrong left the palace and set up his own household, he took Concubine Wan out of the palace to raise her. The concubines in the harem of the previous emperor were very envious of Concubine Wan's good luck as she had a son to rely on in her old age.
