I almost touched the moon
Chapter 4 Reunion
At 9:15, the person Cheng Che was waiting for finally walked into the classroom.
She only put on basic light makeup, but it made her superior facial features look even more cool and stunning.
She was carrying a black tote bag, holding a glass of iced Americano in her right hand, and a white cashmere coat draped over her elbows.
She wore a black short-sleeved knitted sweater, paired with nine-point light blue straight jeans, with the trouser legs slightly rolled up, and a pair of white mid-heeled sheepskin boots. Her light brown long hair was still draped over her shoulders, with a slightly curled end, and her French bangs exuded a Korean lazy vibe. She wore a pair of Australian white earrings on her earlobes and a double diamond platinum necklace from the Tiffany Elsa Peretti series on her neck as decoration, which was low-key yet elegant.
She has always been like this, simple and elegant, lazy yet noble.
She took out her computer from her bag, smiled sheepishly, and said to the students in the audience in English: "I am sorry that I am late because I am too tired from traveling during the holidays. I just came back from China yesterday, so it was really difficult for me to get up in the morning. I rushed all the way here, but I am still late. As compensation, I will try not to ask you to answer questions today."
As soon as this was said, the audience laughed, and someone immediately started to make a noise, "Professor Iseylia, can you please be late every time from now on?"
Iseylia also smiled and said to the man, "Are you still asleep? It seems like you had a good dream."
She opened the slides and continued, “I know you are all very worried about the grades for planetary science papers, but I can’t help it. Some of the errors are really very, very, very unreasonable. I can accept that people have different opinions on the definition of a planet and provide relevant data to justify their opinions, or use different formulas when studying orbits, but if the wrong formula theory is used to calculate a planet as a dwarf planet, I cannot accept it.”
"There are even people who, ummm, to be honest, I thought you were writing an astrology paper. But don't worry, I have already graded the exams before the holiday, and the scores have been uploaded to the system. Perhaps I should congratulate you, because the pass rate this time has reached 52%, and one of your classmates scored one point, congratulations."
As soon as these words came out, everyone in the audience started checking the scores. Cheng Xuan was so nervous that he was shaking all over. Finally, when he saw the score, he lowered his voice and exclaimed, "Yeah! 3.7! Iseylia I love you!"
Just as I finished saying "I love you", I was hit hard on the head by the person next to me, and I got a glare in the face.
"Let's get back to the point." Iseylia said as she stood on the podium. "The topic of this class is the interstellar medium. I believe you have already read the required reading I uploaded, so is there anyone willing to answer the question of what the interstellar medium is made of and give a brief introduction?"
Seeing that no one answered the question for a long time, she frowned and said, "I think this is a very basic question, and you should have known it during your undergraduate studies. Of course, it is also possible that you are too shy. In this case, I will just pick it randomly."
She glanced at the audience and saw a boy wearing a black baseball cap hiding his head behind a computer screen. She immediately became interested. "The boy in the last row, on the far left, wearing a black baseball cap, please answer this question."
As he spoke, he walked down from the podium, ready to hand the microphone to him.
Cheng Che thought to himself "Oh no" and searched on Google fearfully. What is interstellar medium? How could he possibly know about it!
Cheng Xuan hurriedly reminded: "About half of the interstellar gas is distributed in 98% of the space between stars..."
Cheng Che immediately responded to his words word for word, but stopped abruptly when Iseylia appeared in front of him and handed the microphone to him.
Iseylia was also a little surprised, but she quickly responded with a faint smile, and then said, "Oh, you don't seem to be our major. Are you interested in astrophysics and want to come and listen?"
"Yeah..." Cheng Che stood there in a daze, and only said this one word after a long time.
Iseylia nodded and smiled, "Ok, it's okay. Sorry to make you nervous. Then Xuan, you are our professional, right? Please answer this question."
Cheng Xuan cursed his damn brother a hundred times in his heart. Why did he suddenly feel like coming to accompany him to class? How come he was so lucky to be called by Iseylia and get cueed as a result? What a sin.
Fortunately, this question was very basic and the answer could be found exactly in the literature provided, and he answered it immediately.
Iseylia nodded in satisfaction and said, "Very good, absolutely correct. But I hope that next time you can tell me in your own words instead of just reading out the exact same sentence from the document."
Cheng Che looked at Iseylia at the podium. She was confident and elegant. Her lectures were rigorous yet interesting. She explained the originally boring and obscure physical theories very thoroughly. Even someone like him who knew nothing about astrophysics could understand the general idea.
He immediately understood why Iseylia, who Cheng Xuan described as being so strict that she was unkind, was still so crowded in her class. She was serious and rigorous, and did things meticulously. Her teaching style was relaxed and humorous, and fascinating. No wonder she could become an associate professor at such a young age.
After the two-hour class, Iseylia immediately said goodbye and said, "I'm going back to bed. I wish you all a nice day."
Cheng Xuan also stretched and yawned and said to Cheng Che, "Brother, why don't you go back first? I want to go to the library and then I have to go to the laboratory."
"Okay." Cheng Che also closed his computer and walked out of the classroom quickly, trying to keep up with that person.
Sure enough, after she left the classroom, she went outside to smoke. When she saw him, she smiled and nodded.
Cheng Che was a little angry at her nonchalant look. Why was he so excited to see her again? He spent an hour in the morning getting his hair done, choosing clothes, and putting on light makeup, risking social demise to attend her class. But she still had this nonchalant expression.
Cheng Che wanted to turn around and leave, but he walked to her almost instinctively and called her "Sister Wen Song".
The cigarette in her hand is still the mint-flavored Essence Popping Beads, her favorite flavor. She has always been a person who doesn't like to change, and has not changed over the years.
"Congratulations, not only did you become a PhD at Oxford, you've also successfully become a professor." He stood beside her and said, "Sister's dream has come true."
"My dream?" Wen Song took a puff of cigarette and then slowly exhaled. The gray smoke dispersed in the cold wind. "Dreams are things that cannot be realized. This is not my dream, it's just what I want to do."
She flicked the ash into the ashtray on the trash can beside her, and then said, "Don't call me Sister Wensong. It sounds weird. I'm more used to you calling me Iseylia."
He suddenly wanted to ask her what her dream was, Skyline? But that was a taboo between him and Wen Song, so he didn't dare to mention it.
"Anything else? If not, I'm going home to sleep." After finishing her cigarette, she looked at Cheng Che calmly and asked. Her expression was still indifferent, without any surprise, joy, or confusion because of his sudden appearance. She didn't even ask him why he was here.
"Aren't you going to ask me why I came to your class?" Cheng Che still asked her.
Wen Song smiled and said, "You will say what you want to say. If you don't say it, why would I ask you? There are so many people who are not from the same major or school who come to audit my class. I will ask every one of them and I will be exhausted."
So, it turns out that in her heart, she is the same as those ordinary students who come to listen to her classes because of her reputation.
Cheng Che said somewhat dejectedly, "Nothing, Cheng Xuan just told me that their professor is very pretty and the class is very interesting, so I wanted to come and listen. Because of you, I also became a little interested in astrophysics."
Wen Song laughed when he heard what he said, and said with a smile: "He is scolding me to you. The one I talked about in class today who wrote his thesis like astrology is him. He is quite smart, but his basic knowledge is not very good, partly because his German and English are not good enough. It is quite normal. This is a problem that many international students have in their first year. I had the same problem when I first arrived in Switzerland. In addition, his personality is a bit too eccentric, so he is not rigorous enough when doing research. Talk to him if you have time."
"Okay, I'll tell him when I get back." Cheng Che was delighted to see that she had said so much to him, and asked tentatively, "Sister, can we have lunch together when you are free?"
"Today?" Wen Song yawned and shook his head. "No. I was so sleepy. I woke up at five in the morning because I hadn't adjusted to the time difference. Then I fell asleep again at around eight. Now I really have to go back to bed. Let's get together again when we have time. You have my contact information anyway."
"I've made an appointment with my sister. Will she come?" Cheng Che asked without giving up.
"It depends. If I have time, I will." Wen Song said calmly, "I'm leaving first. Bye."
"Wait a minute." Cheng Che grabbed her wrist, lowered his head and met Wen Song's unhappy eyes, then realized his mistake and said embarrassedly, "Sorry."
"Is there anything else?" Wen Song's tone became obviously impatient.
Cheng Che sighed softly, and then asked: "Sister Wen Song, am I just an ordinary friend in your eyes? Have you really never thought of me in all these years?"
"Cheng Che." Wen Song thought his words were a little ridiculous. "You were the one who broke up with me, and you were the one who immediately had an affair with a popular female star after the breakup. What do you want me to think?"
"I can explain," Cheng Che said immediately, unwilling to let her leave.
"I told you, I'm very sleepy now." Wen Song refused, "If you want to explain, please find another time. Now I want to go home and sleep."
After saying that, she immediately turned around and walked away quickly. However, after she had walked for a long time, she looked back at the figure who was still standing there, and whispered to herself, "Ah Che. It's been a long time since we last met."
