Unknown Knight

Chapter 5 Robbers Attack

On the road to Suno City, Aix pretended to be profound, closed his eyes and looked like he was in deep thought. He was secretly thinking in his heart how to act more like a noble.

But now he is becoming more and more uneasy. The half-body chain mail weighing more than 10 kilograms is getting heavier and heavier. As the saying goes, a long journey requires a heavy burden. Originally, it is nothing to wear more than 10 kilograms on the body, but with his delicate aristocratic physique, it is ok to wear it when he is excited for a while, but he can't wear it for a long time. It's not even half a day now that he feels uncomfortable all over and can't hold on any longer. If he takes it off, where will the heroic aristocratic image he has established be placed? If he doesn't take it off, his body is already sore and sweating, which is really uncomfortable.

While Axel was feeling tormented and on pins and needles, a danger caused by him was slowly approaching. In the weeds on the roadside behind the convoy, a pair of vicious eyes were staring at him, full of hatred and resentment.

The owner of that pair of eyes was called Uni, the guy who was fired from the beer workshop yesterday. He was originally a rogue in the city of Dehrim, a lazy and unemployed vagrant. He sold out the little property left to him by his parents after their death, leaving him with nothing but dirt. It could be said that he had nothing left after eating anything and was incompetent at anything. He could hardly make a living and was addicted to gambling. If he hadn't had a brother who was the head of a local guild and helped him occasionally, he might have starved to death on the streets of Dehrim.

Speaking of guilds, in fact, in this era they were underworld organizations similar to local gangs. Marcus, the son of Yuni's brother, was one of them, and he was doing pretty well. He was tall and strong, and ruthless. He was also a well-known villain in the local area, and he had long been promoted to the top position in the guild.

If it weren't for the blood relationship, Marcus wouldn't care about the life and death of this useless brother, but he was still his own brother after all, and as a leader of the guild, it would be somewhat shameful if his brother didn't do well. So he tried to force his brother to work in a beer workshop. Although the workshop owner had local backers, he had to arrange an easy job for Uni to receive goods for the sake of face.

Originally, Yuni worked hard and could have made a good living in the beer workshop with the help of his brother. He could also make money by receiving goods. But his rogue nature made it impossible for him to work hard. After he figured out the tricks in the receiving process, he became more and more unscrupulous. It was understandable for others to embezzle one or two bags of goods, but he doubled and tripled the amount, which made the delivery vendors complain. He had already reported it to the workshop owner. The workshop owner had long wanted to fire Yuni. What happened to Aix yesterday was a good reason, so he fired him. Marcus couldn't say anything.

Marcus knew best what kind of person his brother was. He would not go to the workshop owner to demand an explanation, after all, he could not afford to offend the other party's backer. However, he was happy to use this as an excuse to retaliate against a passing merchant. He heard that the other party had four carts of beer and some other goods, and was a fat sheep. In addition, Yuni exaggerated the grievances he had suffered, so how could he bear to let the caravan go? So he decided to take him down, so he gathered more than 20 local hooligans, followed the caravan out of the city, and prepared to take action in a secluded place.

Aix, who was getting more and more uncomfortable, suddenly felt that something was wrong with the atmosphere in the caravan. Everyone looked panicked and looked back from time to time. Bandak came over and whispered in his ear:

"Sir, we are being watched!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the whole convoy became agitated. It was very unsafe to walk in the wild these days. Aix had experienced being stripped naked like a pig, so everyone was very alert. In the distance, there was a group of people rushing towards here at a quick pace, and it was obvious that they had bad intentions.

For a moment, the caravan was in an uproar. The three newly hired workers from Dehrim didn't even ask for their wages and ran towards the forest a few hundred meters away from the road. Anyone with a discerning eye could see that if they didn't run away, there would be no good results. The other nine people were also trembling with fear. But they were different. They were all from Suno. After more than a month of business, they would get a considerable share as long as they returned to Suno. If they ran away now, they would not get a penny. This was the life-saving money for their whole family. But the panicked atmosphere was getting more and more out of control. If they didn't take action, collapse and escape would be inevitable sooner or later.

Axe looked at the backbone of the team, Old John, but found that he was looking at him with a look of help. Then he looked at the people around him, and everyone looked at him with hope. It turned out that everyone had unconsciously regarded him, a pseudo-noble, as the backbone! He was speechless for a while, and froze at a loss.

"Aix, Aix!"

Seeing him in a daze, Yamila who was sitting next to him pushed him anxiously. He was so frightened that he straightened his body and slipped off the cart. His feet went weak and he almost fell to the ground. Fortunately, he subconsciously held the handlebars and did not embarrass himself. Looking at the handlebars with his hands on them, Axe suddenly had an idea in his mind. He turned his head and looked at the four carriages full of beer. They really looked like four wooden walls. The oak beer barrels were also very strong. If these four carriages were surrounded, it would be a simple defensive fortification. As someone who often posted spam on the history forum, he certainly knew that defense was easier than fighting on the line.

Although the enemy had more than 20 people, we only had 10 people including Aix, which was more than twice the number of the enemy and us. However, if we entered the wall of cars to defend, the enemy would either cross over from the handlebars where the cars meet, or climb over from a beer barrel that was almost as high as a person. In this way, the enemy would attack from one direction, and the caravan would face at most one or two people at a time. In this way, we would have a local advantage in numbers. How could the noble master Aix, who was always good at mathematics, not see this? The only thing that made people worry was the eight pack horses pulling the carts, which only needed one person to ride and drive them away.

Thinking of this, and feeling the burning gazes of the crowd on him, Axe felt that this was a good opportunity, a rare opportunity to solidify his noble status and one that he could not miss. So he instantly turned into a pretentious person, imitated certain scenes from movies and TV shows, and laughed out loud with his head tilted back.

"Hahahaha! Don't be afraid, everyone! This is not difficult. Who can ride a horse or drive a horse?"

While everyone was stunned by the laughter, Axe asked loudly.

"Me, Laoban, Harvey, and Yamila are all fine. We usually take care of our six horses ourselves."

Old John was the first to react.

"Okay, Yamila, drive the eight horses to the front and don't let the bandits take them away."

Faced with the threat, Axe decided to send his sweetheart away first.

"Yamila, drive the horses directly to Biglen Village ahead and ask Old Evan to find someone to help!"

Seeing Yamila looking a little reluctant, Old John added.

"The rest of us should surround the four wagons, so we won't have to worry about their outnumbered numbers."

Time was running out, and seeing that everyone was still confused and hesitant, Aix added:

"Don't be afraid, everyone. I have used this method to defeat enemies that are five or six times our size before. Now the enemy has only about 5 people at most, which is only twice as many as us. There is nothing to worry about."

"Everyone, take action! Don't you trust Mr. Axe? Only by listening to him can you save your life!"

Bandak, who was usually taciturn, shouted at the top of his voice. The old band still had a reputation for being fierce. He had been on the battlefield and killed people. When he roared, everyone felt their anus tighten and immediately took action. Some untied the reins, some pushed the carts, and soon the cart wall was ready.

In addition to Bandak's own dagger, there were three daggers and four spears on the car, plus the Nord iron spear that Bandak forced from the weapon shop. It was unknown when he installed it on the wooden spear that Aix made himself. In this way, everyone had a weapon in their hands. Old Ben also took out a crossbow from the car and was skillfully stringing and debugging it.

Seeing the dust raised by Yamila driving the horses away, everyone's heart sank. The walls of cars around them put the people in the middle in a deadly situation. But everyone knew their current situation. Once the goods were snatched away, the elderly, weak, women and children left at home would starve for several months, or even starve to death. Everyone gradually became determined to fight to the death, and their morale gradually rose.

Marcus, Yuni and their group were just a mob. They had never seen such a formation of trucks before. Although they found it a bit strange, they only hesitated at a distance for a moment, and then, relying on their numbers, they surrounded them with shouts and calls.

"Boss Marcus, there is no grudge between us, right? Every time we go to Dehrium City, we hire brothers from the guild to unload the goods. What happened today?"

Old John saw that the leader was Marcus from the guild and asked him.

"What's wrong? Does my brother know him?"

Marcus pushed Yuni to the front and continued:

"Because you caused my brother to lose his job and had 10 silver coins deducted from his salary, what do you think I should do?"

"Boss Marcus, we really didn't know he was your brother. Is this a misunderstanding?"

Old John explained.

"Okay, since you said it was a misunderstanding, then keep the goods and pay 100 silver coins as compensation. Otherwise, neither of you will be well today!"

Seeing Old John's explanation, Marcus became even more arrogant and threatened fiercely.

"Isn't it 10 silver coins? How did it become 100?"

When Old John heard the 100 silver coins, he became anxious because he couldn't earn that much in a year.

"Mom! You guys made me lose face, don't you want compensation?"

Marcus became more and more arrogant when he noticed that Old John's momentum had weakened and he started to bargain.

"Marcus! There's no room for negotiation. Don't think we're afraid of you. We've already called for help!"

Bandak joined in loudly.

"Calling for help? Those country bumpkins from Biglen Village? Hahahaha!!"

The gangsters also burst into laughter. It was obvious that Marcus had already made a plan.

"Brother, don't listen to their nonsense. Just go ahead. The brothers are thirsty and are ready to have a good beer!"

Yuni shouted beside him, and the other thugs echoed him when they heard it. These people had been walking for almost a whole morning, and some of them had not even eaten in the morning. They were only thinking about breaking up the caravan, dividing the money and supplies, and having a good meal.

Marcus originally thought that the caravan's formation was a bit strange and was hesitant, but when he saw the minions clamoring to charge forward and that they were about to be unstoppable, he thought that the morale of the army could be used, so he shouted:

"Brothers! Kill these country bumpkins and share the money for drinking!"

Then he led everyone and rushed over.

These people only felt that they had strength in numbers. In normal street fights, as long as the other side had fewer people and they gained the upper hand, they often only needed to charge and the other side would flee in all directions. It could be seen that the convoy surrounding them on all sides not only limited their advantage in numbers, but also invisibly put the people in the convoy into a dead end. Everyone was determined to fight to the death and was ready to fight to the death.

"Everyone, don't mess up!"

Aix saw that the people in the convoy were huddled together in a mess. Some people even used their spears as sticks and hit the enemy before they arrived. He thought of the combination of spears and daggers, so he shouted:

"One person holding a spear and one person holding a short sword will work together to guard a gap each. The old squad leader will provide support and command in the middle."

"Okay sir, the spear is for stabbing, you're not holding a stick, you idiot! You, you go protect the spearman's close quarters..."

Bandak, who had been a mercenary, understood the purpose of Aix's combination of long and short weapons, and quickly responded, shouting and giving orders.

A stupid gangster was pushed by the people behind and just as he stepped over the handlebars, he was hit in the abdomen by a spear from a guy. The guy screamed in pain, grabbed the spear with one hand, and waved a broken knife with the other hand. The guy probably had never seen such a scene in his life, so he was so scared that he immediately let go and stepped back. Bandak was quick-eyed and quick-handed. He stepped forward, grabbed the spear and thrust it forward, piercing his body. The guy in pain screamed and dropped the knife. He held the spear tightly with both hands and tried to pull it out, but Bandak kicked him in the chest, using the momentum to pull out the spear, and kicked him back a step, leaning against the shaft of the cart, and then wilted like a deflated ball, and it was obvious that he was dead.

There was also a skinny thug who, relying on his nimble hands and feet and holding a knife in his mouth, had just climbed onto the beer barrel when he was knocked down by two spears. Everyone rushed up and stabbed and chopped him to pieces. The other thugs who had climbed onto the car were frightened and immediately turned around, jumped out of the car and ran away.

After seeing lives lost and blood drawn, this mob was so scared that they turned around and fled. They had only been involved in street fights and had never seen such a scene. When they heard boss Marcus say that the other party was a weakling, they thought they could take advantage of it and wanted to join in the fun, just like the usual practice of the majority bullying the minority. They thought they could reap the benefits with an easy charge, but they never thought that they would be in danger of losing their lives today. If the Marcus brothers had not come with machetes to beat and kill them, this mob would have probably dispersed directly.
